Let's not forget that at a young age Miller looked very dangerous albeit erratic in the SPL, scored against Monaco in the champions league and also scored the winner for Wolves against Man Utd. The point is Miller showed something from a very young age. He showed many weaknesses too but the raw ability was there. I don't see anything in Lafferty. What is Lafferty actually good at? I'm struggling.

Weiss is a must. First flair player we've had i yonks and good delivery too. At home in a must win game we should be playing the best attacking options on the flanks considering we'll likely have 3 central midfielders anyway. Play Lafferty on the left and he'll be anonymous. Play Weiss and we'll likely create various chances.

Is Beattie fit? Smith does sometimes experiment in Europe and Miller and Beattie could be a good front pairing, both having experience of the highest level. That or a 4-5-1/4-3-3 with Miller supported by Naismith and Weiss. Only thing there is past experience suggests any formation with a lone striker will very much result in a lone striker and being a must win game that isn't an option. If Beattie's fit, I think he'd be crucial given his experience of playing against some top defences often on his own.

You either have it or you don't. Miller has it (when he's on form), Lafferty doesn't. Lafferty's goal record at Burnley was pish and it's no better here. In his defence, he is not helped by frequently being played wide left despite the fact he clearly is no good there. Then again, he's played there much of his career yet still shows no talent there and most modern versataile forwards should be capable of playing wide from time to time and at least looking competent. When Lafferty picks up the ball I just wait for him to lose it. Smith spent big on him and got it woefully wrong. Never mind though, Smith struck gold with the similar fee paid for lanky forward number 2, Jelavic. If Lafferty is to ever become a competent forward then he might be better to watch the awesome Croat, who looks very much the Dado Prso mould of the ideal modern big striker that can hold up and link play, dribble, create and score from anywhere. Footballers previous track records are crucial - Prso and Jelavic were big name strikers excelling in Europe. Our Kyle on the other hand had a dreadful goalrecord in the championship being played more often than not as a makeshift left sided attacker for Burnley. Most Burnley fans say he wasn't even one of their better players. Oh and regarding Lafferty's international record - a few goals for Northern Ireland doesn't justify his price tag. He has for the record simply scored 7.

He's been an inconsistent player his whole career, hence why he went from one of the most promising premiership players to playing in the SPL.

Scotland need an experienced manager with knowledge of world football. Also Tuesday night didn't lack strength, it lacked technique. You can win a football match without trying to kick the opponents off the park.
-
Are we not playing down the small fact that a significant amount of our support acted like fucking morons? What happened in Manchester wasn't smoke and mirrors, a MINORTY of our support embarrassed the MAJORITY. Lets not beat around the bush, a sizable amount of our support are ignorant fuckwits, as with all football clubs. Natural selection tralalalala.

You've yet to see him play I take it? Aberdeen don't have a single good player and he's one of the worst. Fucking miserable signing
-
Fuck that I happily booed Bert fucking Konterman when we got embarrassed by Dundee United at Ibrox. I pay for these players fucking wages and will voice my disaproval if they're fucking shite
-
21 too many. "Whats that coming over the hill, its Richard Foster, Richard Foster"
-
I've heard this before. Walter Smith isn't afraid to do strange things that don't work - eg Lafferty playing about 900 games wide left and barely touching the ball. He might feature more than you expect. Daily got plenty games
-
Good job too. Spending 2m on a Dundee United player with a dubious goal record after just selling both Wilson and Thomson for the same figure would be incredulous to say the least.
-
I live in Aberdeen, I get it every day haha. Trust me, he's pish.
-
I'll gee you a hand. You could count the number of good players to play for Aberdeen in the last 10 years with one hand and still have fingers left over. And he's considered one of their worst players. Who the fuck can honestly stand up for David Murray when we're in a position where we have to sign SPL dross just to fill up enough places on the sub bench? I've given Walter plenty stick on here but I know this is a signing he will only have made out of desperation.
-
Two half chances doesn't equal counter attacking. We made no attempt to leave our own half. The fact is in a final you do everything to make a match of it and try and win the game. I'm not suggesting we should have gone all out attack by any means but with the way he set ourselves out, our probablility of winning was next to zilch.
-
Are we trying to beat Celtic in seeing who can sign the most pish Aberdeen defender? I've seen him play shite for Aberdeen up front, in midfield and defence. Watty does love his shite 'utility' players
-
Again you fail to read what I am saying. Both Artmedia and Unirea were poor sides and it wasn't a one off final. I couldn't care less if Romania is higher up in the co-efficients. We know Scotland will always be low - there's only 2 remotely competent teams. Both Rangers and Celtic are far bigger than any Romanian club and should be consistently outperforming them in Europe. Let me not further embarrass you by comparing what Smith's side cost in comparison to Unireas. We had a one off match against Zenit who were favourites and had to win the game. Setting out to just defend for 90 minutes and not make a game of it was ridiculous. Have I repeated this basic logic enough for you or do I need to break it down further?
-
My sheapy mates hate him too. IF an Aberdeen fan doesn't rate someone you know they're shite because they always proclaim any of their half decent players as the second coming.
-
I was more meaning the point about other leagues not being interested. You think he would have signed if there was more interest in the premiership?
-
He's done a bad job in Europe every year of his two Rangers terms outwith 92/93 and 07/08, yes. I don't think anyone can say otherwise?
-
Considering they are nearly all Smith's signings, how does that refute what Wabash is trying to say.
-
Is that not the case with all foreigners.
-
You'd be as well arguing with a brick wall. Calscot argues against all logic.

Newsflash - The SPL really is pish.

What did we get, 2 or 3 shots on target? As for your Unirea example - they were minnows and we were expected to win that game. Slight difference. "throwing men forward is the most naive tactic in the book" - no, it's standard procedure when you are losing and approaching the end of an important game. Try telling that to Sir Alex Ferguson's 99 CL team who threw players forward to turn a 1-0 defecit into a 2-1 win in the last minutes
