The general standard in La Liga is much higher. Bolton, Sunderland, West Brom etc are all in the top half of the premiership and are considerably inferior to anyone in the top half of La Liga (and other teams too) The premiership generally just has 4 teams competing because there's only 4 particularly strong sides. In La Liga there is a heap/

Does any of this really matter? Either way they're one of the top teams in the world, as are all the high up sides in Spain.
-
They've hit really bad form lately but then again are still high up in the strongest league in the world
-
Weir is hardly a typical age though
-
He's 28 lol, bit old to be groomed. If he had any future he'd have played more

I'm glad we didn't get Woodwillie. He might look quite good for Dundee United but as we know its a big step up going to the old firm. Few youngsters from spl clubs have gone on and done well at the old firm in recent years. Steven Naismith is an obvious exception but it even took him a while to find his groove. Going back to Webster, funny how he was superb for Dundee Utd and Hearts yet in his spells in the premiership and at us he was nowhere to be found. Dare I say being a good player in a poor team is basically his level?
-
His goal? Hitting the post? Being praised highly for each European performance? What more do you want.
-
He's impressed me massively in all 3 games and looks better in Europe than the SPL IMO.
-
We spent over £1m did we not? Quite a lot considering we're skint and he's 32 and several years past his best.
-
Out of his depth in the CL? Really?
-
The sad thing is he is probably worth anything like £8m+ now, considering any half decent first team player goes for that in the EPL. To lose him for £500k is pathetic, even though his time here wasn't great. I mean bottom of the heap players go for more than £500k to England ffs.

Normally I'm not a fan of good British players getting top jobs early on in their career, it often ends in disaster. Particularly in England where coaching training is inferior to foreign countries. Ally though has plenty coaching experience and has been hands on in the first team.

Slightly off topic but I think this is the first time since 02/03 that we've had a really good side that correlates with the size of our club. We don't have as many big names as then but we have a very good and balanced side and now very much play the Rangers way. We were strong a couple of years ago but in a different way and the standard of football was often not very pleasing on the eye. In fact you could even say it was often not far off abysmal. How many times do we play the long ball now? Not often. Having natural width in our side combined with creativity in the final third and players who like the ball kept short on the deck has worked wonders. Interesting times ahead. One can only hope that we only get better.
-
We're not skint though in SPL terms. We're 10 times as rich as any spl team outwith celtic
-
Whats good about this is this is how the top modern day clubs operate. With the increase of 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 often players in the final third rotate and drag players around the park. Maybe we are starting to see some form of total football back at Ibrox
-
Our refs are worse than the big leagues though.
-
As far as I can see though he left the club and they didn't want him. If Wilson left us and wasn't given a new deal then joined someone else we wouldn't expect to suddeny get money. Either way for all the organisation we have on the field, we still seem a bit of a mess off it. Surely the powers that be would know the rules backwards and know prior to signing him if any money would legally be due.
-
Yeah this rule makes sense to protect current players but if he was released then it should be a fresh start. It would make more sense if maybe they got some sort of compensation later down the line if he turned out good, or a small percentage of his next fee. It sounds silly though, countless young players (and he's not even that young) get released then join a new club for free.
-
8 first team players is a bit much for a league cup game IMO. You wouldn't see many other big clubs in European football fielding so many important players against a poor side in a league cup game. A mix of first team, squad players and youngstars would be better
-
Don't see the point in risking Bougherra. We should play a reserve team. We have 3 more imporant competitions to compete for.
-
That is really bad. Reminds me of the red card Angelo Di Livio got in the world cup a while ago

At the end of the day Boyd was useless againt Celtic and European opposition so as long as we can score enough against the poorer teams in the SPL he will not be missed. And dare I say that we are benefiting in Europe this season by playing pretty much the same team week in week out? We were always shifting our team around, particularly to accomadate Boyd, and I think that was a factor in our awful performance in the CL last season. We are now organised, regardless of formation, as we have pretty much the same team passing well together. Remember when we used to look completely clueless in the final third, sometimes even against shit teams? Instead of hoping for a scrappy goal from Boyd, we create moves with a bit of flair. Good riddance I say. Incidentally, I never thought Boyd would do well in England as he won't get any space there and will have to work. I thought it would more be the EPL that found him out though. Incidentally, out of our players to go to England recently, the more technically gifted Hutton and Adam are performing admirably (I thought Hutton was man of the match v Everton) whilst the technically limited Thomson and Boyd are struggling massively.

We've ended up with a far better striker in Jelavic, my only gripe is we lost him on a free.

After match PARTY and lets all laugh at Celtic thread :D
Totti replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
I'm arguing with tims on another forum about them blaming the ref by pointing out they should have finished with 9 men. One of them thinks neither deserved a red card! What do they have to do to get a red? Break someones neck? Incidentally Broadfoot only came on because they lunged at Papac in the first place, that's karma for ya! -
How the hell did this get published? I put more care as a kid in my first year school book reports!
