Our squad is threadbare and out of necessity many youth players will likely be required. Which ones do you think should play? Which are good enough? John Fleck has for some time supposedly been the player of the future. He did seem promising but was often moved around positionally and never really found his groove. From what I can see his ideal position seems to be a 'classic no 10' type player off the main striker, or on the left in a deep lying forward role in a 4-3-3. I think he's 19 now and at an age where he really needs to start playing first team football more often. Jordan McMillan was meant to also have a good future, at 22 and seemingly miles off the first team what chance does he have? Is he good enough? It's good to see Hutton and Wylde coming through, who else could make the grade? With the state of our finances and the global economy, kids really are or should be the future. But it's a case of if they'll get a chance and whether they are good enough. In the last 10-15 years there has not been a plethora of talent coming through the Ibrox ranks but things do look a bit better.

In games particularly at Ibrox where we are comfortable, we really need to start getting youngsters involved more so they're already integrated into the first team. Starting them in away games is throwing them in at the deep end.

Ashley Cole is a terrific defender though and probably the best left back in the world, at probably the best defence in the world. Last season the only other left back who was possibly better was Aleksandar Kolarov who now plays for City. If we're to talk about overrated English players who really are not among the best in their position look no further than Sir Wayne de la Rooney. Not even the best striker/forward in the premiership never mind world. I fear the day England produce a Messi or Ronaldo because they will literally shit themselves with pleasure PS - Speaking of Chelsea, Alex and Ivanovic are becoming really fantastic players. There's a perfect balance in their team at the moment.

Every small country on the face of the earth seems to unearth the odd world class player apart from Scotland. I'm just waiting on a £20m wonderkid to finally come through
-
Bale plays left wing now and has improved dramatically, Assou-Ekotto plays left back for Spurs. By the way Ashley Cole IMO is one of the English players that do deserve the hype, he's in tremendous form.

Valencia 3 - 0 Rangers: Player Ratings and MoM Poll

I'd give Davis a 3 or 4. Looked like a young boy playing with men, totally out of depth. Then again sometimes decent players need to play with decent team mates to flourish -

The second goal was an error but who can blame him when he had about 20 top saves... I thought the first goal was almost a foul, he was so crowded out that he couldn't get anywhere near the ball. No foul took place though and it was just a case of so many bodies from both sides in the box. If we end up in the Europa league, which is likely, I think we should change formation because nobody will get caught out by it now -
I think Pete's point was the German league being above Italy in Gazza8's list? Which is of course absurd. I won't even bother comparing the top Italian teams to German .

He actually at least WAS a very good player. You honestly haven't heard of him?

Champions league level players can be found cheaply eg Bougherra, Cuellar, Papac, Davis etc. Commons is a 27 year old playing in the championship for a reason

Without a doubt in my mind, La Liga is the strongest league in the world and has been for some time. It is the most entertaining, has the best players, is very competitive and every side tries to play attacking and good football. I now think Serie A is getting back to what it was like before the corruption scandal damaged it. There is not a single poor side in the top half and there's pretty decent ones across the board. It's also a much less defensive minded league now. It is still tactical and organised but it can be very entertaining too. Inter did Italy wonders by bringing the champions league back and restoring Serie A as a force. Which brings me to the premiership. Up until recently, it boasted a very powerful top 4, all challenging for the top 4 with bursting cheque books. Now though only Chelsea remain the elite team in the league, with a very balance starting XI which can stand up to just about anyone. Arsenal are looking improved this season but it remains to be seen if they can really become a force again. Man Utd are a side in decline, badly needing investment and often looking questionable in defence and midfield. Nothing need be said about Liverpool. Man City look a top 4 side now but are far from the finished article as their defeat to Wolves showed. Spurs are in interesting times but are miles off title challenging. Outwith that, you have a pretty mediocre league IMO. Everton make up the best of the rest. Blackpool, West Brom, Newcastle, Sunderland etc have been 4 of the better teams in England this season and are nothing special. The general standard in mid table clashes doesn't make great viewing. Something like 3 players from the premiership were shortlisted for the Balloon D'or, including a strange inclusion of Sunderland's Gyan (political correctness?) which tells its own story. Which brings me to my point about the EPL, previously it did have 4 top teams and then a lot of averageness. Now though it just looks a pretty damn average league. The rise of German football is interesting too - it's a very entertaining and solid league which has attracted some of the worlds best in recent years. I think the order for the top leagues in the world would now be: 1. Spain 2. Italy 3. England 4. Germany

Hope it's bullshit. We are a champions league level club, act accordingly!

Slightly off topic - when did Scotland start getting good tops? I guess it's hard to go wrong with Adidas or Nike. Adidas' kits this year are really smart IMO, I've got the Chelsea home one. Would love to have a gers top like the current Chelsea one
-
That's my main problem too, it looks like its been made by a 5 year old on ms paint and makes the top look bloody awful. Would look much better with no sponsor. I like to see us kitted out properly particuarly in the champions league.

Got Adam in my fantasy league team, he'll be at least 4th in the top ranking midfielders by the end of the night. Not bad going for a £500k player

That's the spirit

Neil Lennon is Martin O'Neil minus the talent. In fact I've a lot more respect for MON than Lennon. Lennon is a vile little creep

What's annoying is instead of Celtic being portrayed as volatile and paranoid, now it's 'SFA cover up' or 'scandal' etc. The Sunday Mail even had 'Lenny' in the back page headline, which gives off an impression of a poor wee victim.

Few particularly good 23 year olds play for lower league sides let alone get released by them. Keegan was in the starting lineup for Liverpool at 20 and scoring regularly so don't really see your point there. I have no expectations for this signing whatsoever, we probably won't hear about him again going by our track record. If he does turn out to be good then it's a bonus I guess
-
Which brings us back to the old point of whether we train our players too hard, incorrectly or both? You would think by now we'd have it right.
-
They wouldn't have accepted that money, Webster or no Webster. Everyone in the SPL outwith us tends to play hardball with their prized assets. Did they not want £3m + ?

City are part of the top 4 now, instead of Liverpool. They didn't quite make the top 4 last season but they will this season Spurs are a good team but nothing more, they need to be able to beat the top sides in England away from home. They have bridged the gap though. Everton and Spurs are decent teams outwith the top 4/on the periphery, after that though the premiership is a weak league. Newcastle and West Brom have come up from the championship and are already 2 of the better sides in the league
