Maybe the fact that we have improved him massively as a player? If we didn't sign him, he'd have been stuck in the championship or even worse. I often criticise Walter but he certainly improved Miller massively. Miller at times in his career could be very good but more often than not he was the pacy striker that ran around like a headless chicken, had no control and had awful finishing. Maybe working with McCoist closely gave him the striker instinct he seems to have developed. And for what its worth, he showed no interest in staying and if he wants to stay but is getting lower money why is he not saying so to the media. He's a mercenary. And that's before considering the fact he's played twice for us and once for them. No honour

Do you remember how awful Boyd and Lafferty used to be when played together? When on earth has two big strikers ever worked?

Why do we need Boyd back? Was last night not enough evidence that we have too many big strikers and they make a terrible pairing? Play Jelavic with Naismith or Fleck. We looked much more dangerous last night when Fleck and Jelavic came on. If we sign anyone it should be a link up striker/forward. But personally with Naismith and Fleck I really don't think that is necessary. If anything we should be looking at a winger because Weiss is going to leave at the end of the season and suddenly we will have a static midfield again with nobody who can take on anyone

Can it now stop, pretty please? The entire footballing world know it doesn't work. A front pairing needs to compliment each other. I can't think of one successful front pairing where two out and out big guys worked up front. It's not even so much the size, it's just that ideally in a 4-4-2 you want an out and out striker and a classic number 10 link up player. Boyd and Miller worked because Miller can drop off and work the channels. Lafferty and Boyd together never worked. Lafferty and Beattie tonight were horrific. They linked horribly last week two, though Lafferty put in a good individual performance. Beattie looks finished but being the wrong partner does not help. We have John Fleck sitting on the bench, a player who can easily do the classic number 10 second striker type position, yet instead Walter does an illogical thing and plays two big guys. Walter reminds me of Eck at times, constantly doing things nobody else would do and persisting when they don't work. Fleck has come on and is playing well, we look a lot more dangerous with him and Jelavic in the final third. Or why not try 4-3-3 with 1 striker and Weiss and Fleck on the flanks supporting....

good riddance to bad rubbish The ugly mercenary was on to a good thing here and had finally hit some sort for a lengthy period. Good luck in Turkey where you'll probably struggle to score in a barrell of fannies. Not the best of places to see out your playing career either.

Generic transfer window thread - rumours and news
Totti replied to Jim White's topic in General Football Chat
Going by Kim Kallstroms form in CM/FM he should be captaining Real Madrid and worth about 900 million by now -
That's not all that much less than the 10 times better David Villa cost Barca. I hate the premiership. Disgusting league. Bent has scored 8 league goals this season. £24m is the sort of money the top few players in a league should cost.

Disagree with the last bit. Who has he managed of note other than Chelsea? What has he achieved? Sometimes elite football teams don't really need all that much direction. And good managers don't tend to go from Chelsea to shite like Portsmouth and West Ham. Martin O'Neil for the record is a top manager but tends to overspend and needs money. He's a good tactician but tends to play direct football, boring football and hasn't got to a top club yet. He has had a lot of success in management though and for a long period completely owned McLeish in game after game in old firm derbies. PS - It's difficult to play good football at that end of the table because thats the reason they are there in the first place. And of course from a personal point of view, it's difficult to see any good football played in the premiership, outwith Tottenham and Arsenal. It must be the only league in the world where most of the top teams make no attempt to win certain matches. Man Utd and City are the most boring teams on the planet in 'top 4' games
-
He could play for a much better team than that, the Turkish league is shite now. He's almost back to the player he was as a youngstar, madness considering how awful he was in his last season here. Much like Charlie Adam, Walter Smith obviously could not get anything out of a talented technically minded footballer.
-
No but Walter decides who he wants and knows how much money he can spend. But yes, this is another impressive failure on Bain. He's a great guy to draw out transfers and spend too much on someone then sell somone for buttons. Kenny Miller, Kris Boyd, Charlie Adam and Barry Ferguson have all now (just about on Millers part) gone for sweeties. Great stuff.
-
Goodbye Kenny. See you in a year or 2 when you're pish again in the English lower leagues or back at Hibs.

It's transfers like this that are why we constantly get in the shit financially. Factor in 1.5 million with a year or 2 of high wages and thats a few million, plus we will get nothing for him. What a mess.
-
Beattie is another example of Walter being rather hit and miss in splashing the cash. Spending any money on an injury prone 32 year old striker (almost 33) who'd scored 9 goals collectively in his previous 2 seasons was an epic fail. And £1m+ is actually a lot of money for us.
-
Goodwillie will be like all the the other decent young Scots who look great at a non old firm team in the spl then end up on the bench at the old firm or the lower English leagues. He's also the type of player that if born in a more cultured and educated country he probably could be a terrific player. IF he was in France, Italy or Spain he'd be an athlete instead in the UK most young guys are jakie neds who don't give a shite about conditioning.
-
I'm really starting to get sick of Scottish football. The only way it can improve is to plan for a better future but instead we're regressing. The old firm are going to get worse and worse and soon this league will be little better than the fuckin league of ireland. There's leagues not much better than ours that manage with 16

Who is smalce and why was he banned?
-
I think it's a bloody good job he's not attracted much premiership interest. He's good enough for anyone in England outwith the top 4.
-
Celtic have been shit since MON left.
-
What the heck? What 30 year old who performs well in the champions league is worth nothing? He's got a few years left in him and could easily do a job in the premiership. Christ, Hibs sold Sol Bamba for 250k.

Make Your Mind Up Please Kenny - The Clock is Ticking
Totti replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Keane is light years ahead of Kenny though in terms of ability. -
Defensively and tactically it is still possibly the best and it has improved as a lot in recent years, with the likes of Milan, Roma and Lazio improving massively and playing attacking football. They're obviously basing his ability on one season

22 goals in the spl means nothing considering how greater Italy is. Fiorentina play Gilardino as a main striker, obviously 10 times the player Miller is, then have players like Ljajic who can play in behind. Don't really see Miller fitting in anywhere there. He always struggle at the higher levels anyway. Both times in the premiership he scored feck all goals and his European record is appalling. The thought of him trying to play in Serie A is hilarious. Di Canio called it excellently:

I'm talking about a while ago. Murray said something about it being policy to offer contracts late on. It might be in one of the other previous occasions we were in the shit financially
-
I'm not sure how relevant fan participation at board level is. Joe Bloggs in a Rangers scarf knows nothing about business. We simply just need an interested, rich and shrewd owner and an adequate CEO. We need some sort of plan to sort this club out and have us back to an acceptable standard financially and on the park. Our infrastructure is archaic, particularly in terms of scouting for example. We just need to become a well run club and business essentially, and I don't know what including the fans is really going to achieve.

He won't even get anywhere near the starting lineup for them, he's just backup.
