How much influence does our DoF actually have on recruitment?
yuddie replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Seen a few links to DoF's the last couple of days so thought I'd post on this topic, here's a solid link from Jordan Campbell on an ex NI and Arsenal player/development worker. Shame Campbell stopped reporting exclusively on Rangers for the Atheltic, it was geniunely excellent Rangers content and journalism. What do you guys think? Seems like an intriguing and encouraging link to me. -

I feel like the length and value of contract isn't linear with a clubs valuation of a player, or at least definitely not in recent times. West Ham knocking back an 80m bid from Arsenal for Declan Rice and Spurs holding out for 100m+ for Kane who are both in the last year. Unless someone can tell me otherwise wasn't Bellingham in his last year for Dortmund when he went to Madrid? And he's just gone for 130m+. There's definite deals to be done in Scotland, personally I think we should've tested the water at least for Nisbet but ah well. Ross Stewart when he was at County as well. -
Attitude toward young players breaking through
yuddie replied to Graeme Ro55's topic in Rangers Chat
It's a brave manager who will blood youngsters and keep them in the side ahead of experience and investments that the club have made, it's just the nature of it. I fully believe you could plug Lowry, Devine or King into this team singularly and they'd do fine..some stellar performances and some bad ones, which has been the case for both Devine and King. If we can't do that then flip them for profit and give them careers as professionals, it's a good reflection of the academy and we can be proud of it and them. -

Haha I'm guessing lundstram will leave at the end of his contract next season and Ryan Jack will have to perform well this season to get a renewal, it's debatable whether we should've renewed for next season in my opinion. Heck if we got a £1-2m offer for Lundstram I'd punt him now to be honest. -

Would anyone here take Baccus if Kamara moves on? I don't know if he's an 8 or not though. Especially with Jack and Lundstram looking like they'll leave sooner rather than later. -

Just watched his interview. I don't know if it's just me but he sounds just like Colak. Anyway he's here now, let's back the boy. -

4lads saying yesterday that Lammers was over here finalising the deal and H&H today saying that it should be done by the weekend. Not arsed what people think about them but they're usually pretty concrete with what they get/say. Another striker with Lammers and a left centre back is a big priority for me, on top of that a good young utility forward would be ideal as well..add in Cifuentes and that's the bones of a good rebuild - after that it's a case of player sales and finding replacements although I still think the squad needs trimming. -
Tottenham Appoint Ange Postecoglou As Head Coach

All these interviews of their fans outside Dol Guldur are telling by the way. Pretty much everyone of them says he'll come in and do a job in Europe.. I don't know if it's a thing amongst their support but the leagues done already and they want a European final and/or ucl last 16. It was the same with 55, the shock and outrage that we won the league was hilarious - madness. -

In the last year Matondo, Ridvan, Raskin, Sterling have come in who are all early 20's to be fair and we've been linked to Panzo as well who's 22 I think..Cifuentes is 24 which is still young these days and so was Cantwell when he came in. Beale is definitely making the team younger, taller and more energetic. I think he's trying to have a blend and hopefully build up to a peak with a spine in 2/3 seasons, or at least that's what he's implied in interviews. -

Romano with the update, interested to watch him play for us if everything goes through. -

Not too worried about that rumour, I don't like praising any Celtic manager but Ange's style is harder to play against just for the sheer amount of off the ball runs and vertical passes; I feel like Beale's mid press traps would match up well against Rodgers. Beale was on for a 97 point season if you look at the ppg, imo that wins the league next season.. it might be copium but it's an indicator, and that's before a pre season and his own players coming in. -

Sampdoria scored 24 goals in 38 games this season by the way, they couldn't hit a cows arse.. its about 2 in 3 unless I'm wrong. Luis Suarez after shafting the Ghanaians couldn't turn around that record even if he tried. -

It would be hilarious and brilliant if Lammers was mustard for us off the bat. I'm going to back the lad to the hilt for the flack he's had without even kicking a ball for us. -

Just for reference/reassurance on who's making the signings, this is Beale's insight to a signing for QPR who would've probably been in the same youth set ups as Lammers. Came up on my feed so I haven't dug this out but it's a good find. It wasnt bs when Beale said you could trace the players, it's almost like he knows what he's doing! -

Intrigued to see how this one pans out, technically better than anything we've had upfront in years. -
How much influence does our DoF actually have on recruitment?
yuddie replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
I get handing over full control of the sporting departments off-field to the DoF but if we do then we need a clearly defined ethos from top to bottom of the club, e.g Ajax, City, Red Bull. All of these teams/groups pick or develop players and managers that suit their style and the team doesn't miss a beat generally. Going from a fitness driven mid-block press to a more methodical, recyclical approach in Gio was strange for that reason. This might be a wild shout but if the Gerrard/Beale blueprint is the way forward then I'd ask Roy Hodgson to come in for a couple of seasons and guide Beale and advise the club, his Fulham side back in the day were the archetype of what we want. It depends on how serious we are about this. Might get pelters for this hahaha. -

The Turkish clubs properly have a wee man complex with the Scottish league don't they. In fairness it's dire outside the Old Firm but still, the endless links to our players is exhausting. -

He's off to Villa now apparently. I think Davie Weir would be ideal with his experience in England married with Beale, we can only dream though. -

Aye he was, I'm only guessing that he would've come across him in u23/u18 matches with Liverpool. Similar to Dowell. Could've been a club signing though. -

Not sure if Bassey would've been a Beale recommendation with his previous in the unders at Liverpool but other than that it's a good graphic mate, he might've been a club signing anyway. To be honest at this point I'd rather a DoF come in to meet and exceed our academy targets and to overhaul our medical department, if they can then work WITH Beale and advise and guide him and vice versa I think we're onto a winner.. because as you say, it doesn't seem like there were set parameters and a clear ethos we were working with. -

You've got to remember that he's 22 years old to be fair, for a centre back he's still an infant. He won't hit his peak for another 5 or 6 years, or at least conventions would dictate that. I'd be happy with this one, we haven't really had a centre back with pace for awhile..says a lot that since Gerrard the quickest is maybe Leon Balogun? And he was in his 30's and crocked. -

1.7 Interceptions Per Game 1.6 Tackles Per Game 58% Total Duels Won (4.2) 57% Ground Duels Won (2.2) 59% Aerial Duels Won (2) Courtesy of Rangers Journal so I think it's accurate. Haven't got context/caveats or comparisons (and yes, that is important with stats) but at face value he's pretty solid for his age. He's not far off being very good in those criteria if 2+ for Interceptions and Tackles is exceptional and 60%+ in all Duels is above average as well. Anyone who knows more than me with what averages for those would be good feel free to add, just wanted to fire them in. -

Don't mind it to be fair. Young, good youth pedigree and fits the left sided cb spot that we need to address. Can't say that I've seen much of him but Coventry were flying last year so we're getting him at a good time. Hopefully it's just a knock for Souttar.
