The Summer 2024 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

Let's look at ourselves in the mirror and ask, what sort of Rangers fan would turn down a 6'6 Dutch internationalist striker? It probably won't happen but it would be peak haha. -

I mean, he does have a good touch...for a big lad. He's just as happy to link play as win flick ons. -

I swear I mentioned Weghorst ages ago. Him or Bas Dost. Idk. Weghorst + Conway would be reasonable imo. Doubt he'll come through though. -

Both peaked on the run to Seville and declined since. -

Isn't a great source but appreciate it being fired in. Any idea of a fee? -
Blokes at it ffs.

Promote youth too - say what you like about McCausland but he'll be a damn sight cheaper with home grown benefits than a squad option brought in from abroad. With scope to improve too. -
I'll always back us in Europe, especially over the past few seasons. Probably a strange sentiment to lads who grew up on the 90's sides ha!

That's given me anxiety, cheers. -
One thing that has been damning of Rangers over the last few seasons is how slow and old the team was getting, with some lineups last season almost reaching an average age of 30. The squad age has come down from 25.71 last season to 24.93 this (Transfermarkt) - and will probably come down further when/if Tav and Goldson leave. (Just to add to that, the reason we were pushing 30 with some XI's last season but the avg age was 25 is because the bulk of our first teamers were getting on, and the academy lads were there to fill benches and squad spots). The press we put on can look disjointed and confusing at times, although I thought it was spot on for the first 5 v Utd, which won't be helped with Dessers and Lawrence in the team who can't shift their weight at any decent pace, and they lead the press. Football is becoming more and more athletic, seemingly at the cost of technical ability. We lack both qualities granted, but you have to be able to cover the ground well in today's game and even if you lack technical ability you can dominate if you're physically strong (MO'N anyone?). It's one thing seeing our lads be technically lacking, but when they're chasing shadows against Ross County that's another thing entirely. Do you think physical prowess is key to us getting back to being a serious outfit? And how important do you reckon it is to Clements gameplan coming together? It's an easier fix than trying to turn water into wine in converting Goldson into a BPD. Worth mentioning that whilst Postecoglou is venerated in Scotland for his style of play, it took 10's of millions to make it a reality. We can't afford to spend 50m over 4 windows but Clement needs backed, it's a lesson that should be learnt from that time. Get a mobile 9 and 10 with a senior LCB who's also atheltic and all of a sudden you've got a spine which has energy and presence. Can't be that hard, surely? Let us know what you think! Cheers.

Speaks volumes of our propensity to pay big wages to undeserving players more like. It's only the Turkish or Saudi's who'll be daft enough to match it. -
I can't be the only one who thinks this is a mad path he's going down. Even madder considering how McCausland finished the season.
-
That's true enough but no start for McCausland in the last two with Wright in his place suggests it's more a gameplan than readiness. Idk many who'd have him over the young man. Lawrence is because his hand is forced but I'd still rather see Lowry get a chance. If something isn't working don't double down, find a solution - like the manager says he does. The game wasn't too bad tbf, we created decent chances it's just the lack of quality we have in the final third is crippling us. That could be mitigated a wee bit with better selection is what I'm saying, although not solved by any stretch. We need good recruitment.
-
Anyone successful for the Birmingham ballot btw? I wasn't but I'll head into Digbeth anyway.
-
Starting Wright and Lawrence is a wee bit worrying though - the definition of insanity etc. Dessers I get because Danilo is coming back from injury but even a half fit Danilo is more mobile than him. Sorry if that's harsh. Barron and Diomande look like they could do well together - they just desperately need a grafter with guile ahead of them in the 10. If he's sticking with that.
-
We need a ST and RW pronto is my takeaway from that game. Sweet fa we can do if we press, win the ball back and then feed Dessers or Wright who lose it time and again. I know I said I'd keep him as a squad player but that was a tough watch earlier.
-
Cortés looks gassed already. Not surprised the manager has held him back.
-
Dessers is a rough watch isn't he.
-
This start has been encouraging OOP dare I say.
-
Only thing I disagree with is persevering with Lawrence. The boy can't run. That and I'd like Danilo to get some time with the first XI. Hopefully the boys switch on and look well drilled!

I mean, if this is pulled off it would be our best signing in years. Keeping my powder dry. -

For what it's worth I don't like Guardiola's influence on football at all. Watching the defence play it up and down the line 3 times to play it back to the keeper is mind numbing. -

Argyle would be mad to sell him for less than 10m imo. Well out of our price range, he's EPL bound probably. -
Hopefully we see a strong Utd contingent. I want to see us click out of possession more than anything later. Maybe see Danilo get 45/60 too.
