The Gullane 'Murder Hill' work was totally psychological, it was never about fitness and all about mentality and believing you were fitter than the opposition. Wallace was a far, far shrewder man-manager than he is ever given credit for and Gullane Sands was his masterpiece in mental warfare. There is a fascinating interview with Gary Linekar where he talks about Wallace, it's worth trying to find he gives a very different impression of the man than many still hold.

The only SSP member I can think of is a Rangers supporter, her father was an Orangeman and she credits much of her socialist beliefs to the time she spent with the Orange Order. You don't need to be a socialist or a Scottish nationalist to think that at times we don't make it easy for ourselves.
-
Who someone votes for, what they think politically, what they see as social injustice or opportunities for market forces really doesn't have much bearing on whether they think we should play 442 or 352. Rangers fans come in all shapes and sizes, some you'll agree with a lot, some you'll agree with on occasion and some you'll have nothing in common with. It's good for you to be understand where the 'other guy' is coming from though in my opinion.

Chris Graham tears Alex "timmy" Thomson a new one , what a read
amms replied to rbr's topic in Rangers Chat
Yes, I supported his involvement too, I look quite foolish now. I still hope someone will investigate and report on this properly. -
I'll do it if you're still stuck. I've some pent up aggression looking for an outlet, Falkirk FC fit the bill.
-
I wonder if they'll fix your car when the game is on.
-
Forgive my ignorance but what is that? I'm not actually sure what I'm reading there.

If 18% cost £2 million then Ally's 4.5% cost a nice round £500,000. That's a lot of money even for someone with McCoist's wealth.

Bluedell and I have a mutual acquaintance of sorts who thinks we're playing our 'first game' now and that 'Rangers' died in the summer. You'll struggle to find a bigger bluenose than him, believe me. He's not German although curiously he had the cover of this magazine on his Facebook page this week.

Exclusive: Rangers to be fined upwards of £10 million.
amms replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I've no idea who wrote this or if any of it is true however this EBT investigation makes no sense now. As was discussed on the other thread something is a foot. -
He might well have meant that, I only mentioned his post because it sparked the thought. I expect Andy will be along soon to quite rightly kick my arse for misrepresenting him!
-
Andy posted something yesterday which I meant to pick up on and forgot. He said no one from Rangers or Celtic should be allowed in administration roles (I'm paraphrasing). I disagree, we need to get to a point where people are judged on their actions not on their affiliations. As long as checks and balances are in place there is no reason why a Rangers or Celtic connected person can't run Scottish football if they are the best person to do it. Ogilvie has literally got a lifetime in football administration, few people in the world have more experience of it than him.
-
Interesting, thanks. Ogilvie has come in for sustained criticism from the Celtic-minded over the last six months, I wonder if we'll ever discover what he's managed to do or say on our behalf. In some wars the heroes remain unknown for a long time after.

I politely disagree. Successful teams come in all shapes and sizes, there is no identikit for a great team. So when writers say we were good when we had XYZ we need a new XYZ they are doing all of us a diservice. Some great teams are built on defence, some on width, some on attacking from deep, some on possession football, some on counter attack, some on a big man up front, some on speed etc. When a football journalist writes a piece saying Rangers need a new Gascoigne or new Boyd or a new Jelavic etc they are misleading us or showing a lack of understanding about the game. Or are just being lazy. They can compare two strikers, or two midfielders or whatever from different eras but it proves nothing. It's okay for us to do it on a forum or over a drink but professional writers should be viewing football differently.
-
The need for 'new' as a prefix is simply lazy journalism, an affliction of pandemic proportions if you suffer from it in Germany too. I understand why fans do it, but professional writers should be able to describe a player without resorting to it.
-
No idea, I was hoping some would tell me.

I played in a match with Bobby Russell about five or six years ago now. He couldn't run but he was still the best player on the park, it was wonderful to see him up so close.

Ferguson had been hyped, he'd played in a League Cup (maybe?) game at 16 or so and a lot was expected of him, he was never out of the Rangers News. He looked good I agree, but Durrant just sort of appeared from nowhere, and his attacking play got you off your feet. Ferguson was very creative but he played a deeper role.
-
The current edition of 11Freunde with Boateng on the cover has a 'Glasgow Rangers' story featured on the cover; "Das leben nach den Tod" as they say in Lower Saxony.
-
When Durrant broke into the team who was he 'the new', I forget? Ever since Billy McNeil described Steve Fulton as being the new Baggio* and made himself look like a tit and Fulton, an SPL standard midfielder, almost collapse under the burden of expectation, the tabloids love a good comparison, the harder to live up to the better. Describing any player as the 'new Durrant' for someone of my age (early 40s) is very emotive. Durrant was the only shining light in the bleak final Wallace seasons. I'd known my club to produce players like Ally Dawson, Dave McPherson and Kenny Black, other clubs produced the skilful geniuses, not Rangers. Then a teenage Durrant appeared. As local as it was possible to be, with the physique of a female long distance runner and flowing curly hair that looked like he should be one of the Pointer Sisters. Durrant gave me hope, when there really wasn't much, we were the fifth best team in Scotland at that time. Goram is an arse, he should know better, but perhaps the comparison to Durrant isn't so far off the mark in terms of the hope he might give our younger fans. * For any children reading Roberto Baggio was an Italian genius from the 80s and 90s, go look him up on You-Tube, he's worth it.

Rangers could be fast-tracked into second tier via league reconstruction
amms replied to Steve1872's topic in Rangers Chat
Well it happened on their watch and they were instrumental players in the total clusterfuck that followed it. Did they cause it, no. Do they carry any responsibility for it, yes. -

Andy, yes we do, and Doncaster, Regan and co all presided over that period. -

How is Regan still in a job? How are any of the men who presided over arguably the single biggest case of mismanagement in the game ever, still allowed to have any say at all in the future of Scottish football? Reconstruction should be the priority of all Rangers supporters and indeed anyone with the best interests of the game at heart. We should begin at the top though and work our way down. These idiots are still trying to gerrymander a way of getting money from us. They've learned nothing. -
That's just a bizarre statement, "we have to pretend to be nice to them, they can give us money, but we don't really mean it". I thought reprimanding the announcer was a farce, it's trivial, we're going to get the 'Sevco' name thing for a while, particularly if people think it bothers us. When I heard he'd said something I assumed he'd called us 'huns' or worse, that would have warranted action. Anyway, Falkirk are SPL wannabees he's simply following their lead, we shouldn't be surprised at his duplicitous nature.

Aye, cause that's what it's all about, noising up Tims and hand-wringers. How cares whether it's a good idea or not. Fuck me.
