I appreciate this won't be a popular view but yesterday's performance was actually quite heartening and one that suggested to me that McCoist actually does have a chance. Let me explain before cries of 'burn the witch' and the pitchforks are produced. We took on a top six SPFL side yesterday, most if not all of us expected nothing from the match, yet we payed probably as well as at anytime this season. We showed a lot of fight and spirit yesterday, we matched our opponents for that, that hasn't always been the case this season. There clearly was a reaction to last weekend and to the criticism the side and players have had. That shows the players are still playing for the manager if nothing else. We didn't chuck it yesterday, even at 3-1 the heads didn't go down. That tells us something about the squad. The match itself told us the gap between the top and the third flight is small but telling. Individual errors cost us the match, no manager in the world can legislate for what Simonsen did. Likewise when we lost possession for their second, what can the manager do about that? I've read some blame Smith for the first, I disagree. It was scored by a midfielder, he ran from deep and should have been tracked, but not by Smith who was on the other side of the ground and already playing someone offside. We'd two excellent chances, they fell to our strikers too. We wasted them, however it showed the gap between the sides. In the third tier our strikers get lots of chances, in the top tier their strikers don't, so when they get chances they took them. Again, I'm not sure what we expect the manager to do about that. We created some very good chances yesterday, we had one cleared off the line and hit the woodwork. They had four chances and scored three of them. That's the reality of the gap between our sides just now. We'll need to improve next season, we'll need to cut put the errors and take our chances because we'll get fewer next season as the sides we'll play are slightly better than this season. It's hardly an unbridgeable gap. We were missing Bell, Wallace, MacLoed and Little yesterday, four certain starters, so all criticism should keep that in mind too. Like most supporters I've found our performances difficult to watch this season, there is much wrong with our side and our club. However, oddly, yesterday was the first time for a while I've thought McCoist just might make it after all.

Hang about dB, you asked what had the board done to anger people, someone tells you and you say 'ah but' and make some spurious comparison with your husband buying a car. If the club's directors want the support to trust them then they really need to start sticking by their statements. Saying one thing and doing another tends to make people wary.

Ah, but, we cheated, for years too. Hearts are just unlucky. I actually don't mind the SPFL assisting Hearts, I can see no benefit in Hearts going into liquidation and being demoted for non-footballing reasons. Two wrongs don't make a right. The hypocrisy is breathtaking of course and the double standards are what we expect. I'm so disillusioned with Scottish football that I'm not sure I really care what happens to any other side except Rangers now though. If they go bust so be it, if they don't I'm fine with that too.

Great stuff Andy, depressingly accurate. I'm seriously enjoying watching my cabbages grow more just now.

Brilliant BH, I look forward to the next one.

As someone said last night winning is the job of the Rangers manager. If the side don't win, particularly cup finals then criticism and pressure are inevitable. Whatever happens Rangers must win, nothing else really matters. It was a poor performance yesterday, very poor. Had we taken one of the chances we had and won the match then McCoist would simply be doing what all Rangers managers have been charged with; winning. However, without a trophy McCoist puts him and his position under pressure. We'll see what reaction there is from the players this weekend. That will tell us a lot about his management and more importantly the players relationship with him. I want Ally to succeed, as long as his side is winning he has my support, however not winning simply isn't acceptable. Let's see what the this week brings.

Rangers First - Temporary Chairs of Working Groups Announced

See, I've no problem with someone being called c*** if they have behaved like a c***. It's strong I accept but without context it's impossible to judge. Certain words imbue more meaning and force than others, knowing when to use them correctly is the difficult bit. Language evolves as I'm sure you know, my Granny had no problem describing someone as feeling 'gay' as a way of saying they were happy. I doubt anyone who uses the word 'bastard' today really means to describe someone as being born without a father, if only because there is basically no social stigma attached to that today. Having read some of what was said about the person in question you can only infer that her gender was the issue with some, that's unacceptable in my opinion, far more sinister than swearing at someone. Like you I don't personally know the individual involved in this, I only know her from her blog and other writings. She uses the language well in my opinion, her departure is a loss to Rangers First. -
C'mon D'Art, "Never fear quarrels, but seek hazardous adventures." I don't see how bowing out improves anything, but fair enough. Au revoir, bonne chance et rester ainsi.

Rangers First - Temporary Chairs of Working Groups Announced

The language of the gutter? It's not the 1950s BH. There are times when only swearing can express something adequately, ask Shakespeare. Are we really at a point where men who don't like a woman swearing can hound her from a role because if it? That's Talibanesque frankly. -
Rangers First - Temporary Chairs of Working Groups Announced

We've some in our support who find an opinionated female unacceptable. Women should know their place and that place is either agreeing with their man or givin out hand-jobs at the back of the supporters bus. Even a cursory glance at her writing would tell you she has an intellect and a progressive viewpoint and well we can't have people like that involved with the support now, particularly if they're female too. It makes you fuckin despair. -
"Located in Coatbridge , a town a few miles north of Glasgow, Albion Rovers ( D4) vegetate between D3 and D4 Scotland for years" French is such an expressive language. I think he likes us but his Dundee Utd supporting mate doesn't. Good.

McMurdo - Rangers Supporters Loyal ... (new fan group)
amms replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Well I think it's nice they'll have their own forum, bless. I'm reminded of a story a Celtic supporting colleague once told me. His deranged, obsessed brother had joined Follow Follow years before and had very carefully avoided detection (which impressed me because I was always being called a Tim when I posted there) for a couple of years. There was great excitement among his Celtic supporting friends as his brother had reached the required number of posts to allow him to enter the 'secret' forum on Follow Follow not open to newbies and the like. They were quite convinced they'd get access to all our great secrets, find referees chatting openly about hating Celtic, senior police officers and High Court judges rejoicing in arresting and jailing Celtic fans and captains of industry plotting how to keep the Roman Catholic population downtrodden and persecuted. They were so disappointed to discover it contained threads about computer games and movies.- 48 replies

Beram Kayal accuses Lee McCulloch of deliberately crocking him
amms replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Yes, I'm sure McCulloch will lose sleep over what whoever he is thinks of him. Scottish football is too physical and technical players sometimes struggle to adapt, but it was like that before you joined Celtic so go have a word with your agent instead of crying over it now. Of course if you just came for the money well them's the breaks, pardon the pun. I wonder how big a fine or ban the SFA will give him for publicly bringing the game into disrepute with his allegations? -
It can be difficult but it's worth always trying to address the message rather than the messenger. I've always been a little wary of Vanguard Bears, I find their imagery and rhetoric is often needlessly confrontational and passive aggressive. I think this statement follows that pattern again. That being said they've been involved with efforts in the past I have agreed with and applaud them for. Trying to disentangle the message from the messenger can be difficult though, I accept that. I don't have the same problem a lot of other seem to have with what the RFFF announced. Letting it be known that they were considering supporting a man who has done a lot to help the club recently I thought was admirable. I've strong feelings on Mr Easedale and I felt this legal threat was all bluster and an attempt at intimidation. I can understand why some feel differently though. I can see why some might feel it wasn't an appropriate use of funds. However I'd point out that no funds were used, it didn't get any further than a statement about their consideration of the matter. I see no harm actually done. As for the statement it is, once again, needlessly combative, aggressive and offensive. I'm also unsure how it can claim to represent the view of 'vast majority of donators' but perhaps they've contacted them all. A simple 'Vanguard Bears disagrees with the decision to ..... and feels it is not what the money donated was for and as such voted against.' would have surely got across the same message in a way many more people could have engaged with. But by calling out individuals and making accusations of charlatanism, rabble rousing and destabilising the club is not only ironic but simply raising the hackles of those involved. It's an odd statement in many ways, it manages to achieve the exact opposite of what it tries to achieve. It entrenches positions and I doubt anyone will resign on the back of it.

"Intellectually you don't have a leg to stand on" might well also become my signature. It's true of so many of my misadventures. Championing any ex-celtic player over Ally McCoist is simply intellectually and emotionally impossible. There's no wiggle room on that, no middle ground, it's that black and white.
-
I'd special gluten free fair trade ones too for the next meeting. I'm sure the Vanguard boys will love them though...
-
Well geography is important and Welsh people get annoyed when described as English. Think of it as saving you a kicking when you next eulogise big Malky deep in the valleys. My respect for ex-Celtic players is very limited. I've nothing particularly against Mackay other than he's a dirty jump the dyke and a fairly ordinary manager by all evidence. Being the most popular ever Cardiff manager is a little like being the smartest guy in the bottom class, he didn't really much competition, did he.
-
Well I know some bluenoses who love Charles Green, so I'll take that with a pinch of salt.
-
Cardiff is in Wales. "A million times the manager McCoist will ever be" is a bizarre statement. Is there a bromance going on between you an Malky?
-
Jeez Gribz, "all that's wrong with society today", really? Glad to see you're not succumbing to hyperbole or over reacting to this... I'll post about Celtic fans being wrong when I feel like it, I tend not to post about Celtic or their fans very often, but if and when I think they are wrong about something I'll post about it. You can feel free to tell me I'm wrong though, that's your prerogative. I don't have an 'English team' I've just the one team. Because of that I'm allowing myself to make irrational decisions and irrational posts. It's football, it isn't real life and football fandom is irrational. It's about emotion not logic. I'm not suggesting Malky Mackay shouldn't be allowed to manage any football club, just not mine. I don't need to justify McCoist. If you can't see how someone who played for us over 400 times, won 10 league titles and countless other trophies, has been our most popular servant and club ambassador for a generation, if not ever, represented his country with distinction 61 times then served an apprenticeship as an assistant manager at both international and club level isn't "justified" in being offered the managers job at Rangers then I'm very sorry, but you and me clearly see Rangers very differently. McCoist is not immune from criticism, but to suggest somehow I need to "justify" him being chosen as the Rangers manager is lunacy. Get a grip. I'll rarely, if ever, publicly slate a Rangers legend, that's my prerogative. McCoist, or anyone else in his position, will stand or fall by their performance, nothing I will say or do will change that. If others want to indulge in criticism of him, or any other club servant, that's up to them, some of the criticism McCoist gets is a disgrace and some of it is justified. McCoist knows the club and the support better than most, he knew what becoming Rangers manager entailed, I imagine he developed a thick skin a long time ago. I've no idea what the coffee smells like in 21st century Singapore, I'm a tea man myself. But if it leads you to believe that someone like Malky Mackay is somehow qualified to manage Rangers then you can keep it. My feelings for football are based on emotions built up over close to 40 years, don't attempt to deconstruct them or rationalise them, you can't. I really don't like Celtic. I don't like their club, their colours, their badge, their songs, their fuckin horrible strip, their horrible stadium, their directors, their bullshit history, their bullshit ethos, their manager and most definitely their players. I really don't like their players. So forgive me for not wanting one of them to become our manager. That's just how it is. At least, if nothing else, you've given me a new signature.
-
Why of course he'd plough it straight back into the club, can't believe you need to even ask that question... Look, no court in the land is giving Easedale £200,000 even if it found in his favour he isn't getting that. The highest ever defamation payment awarded was £200,000 to Tommy Sheridan from the News of the World and they accussed him of being a liar and attending swinger parties. Calling someone names on Facebook might get him a couple of grand if he's lucky. Anyway, no way will this go to court, he'll either back down or settle, he'd lose a fortune if he took it to court because he won't get awarded costs either. See this for what it is, bullying pure and simple .

Cardiff were fourth bottom when he was sacked, 1 point above third bottom, I'm sorry but that's struggling by any definition. Mackay is no victim, Tan owned Cardiff when he joined them and he knew what he was getting into. If he'd any interest in anything but money he'd have walked when Tan decided to change the team colours and badge against supporter wishes. I take no offence by your first paragraph but would simply point out that if you lie down with dogs. McCoist is guilty of many things but our current 'state' isn't one of them. If McCoist was replaced by an ex-Tim I'd never go back, that would be the end for me.

Hah! Make Brian O'Neill his assistant then, one shite Celtic centreback looks much the same as another to me. What about Peter Grant as first team coach, Roy Aitken as chief scout, fuck it appoint Paulo Di Canio as fan liaison too. What about that nice Neil Lennon, he's got Champion's League experience, let's put him on the short list. I'm sorry, I'm normally a fully paid up member of the handwringers, gum bleeders, liberal wing of our support, but I draw the line at appointing ex-Celtic players to that most coveted of positions in Scottish football; the Rangers manager. Only 13 men in over 140 years have been given that position, it means something and shouldn't be handed out to just anyone, and frankly being an ex-Celtic player pretty much excludes you as far as I'm concerned. Being serious about MacKay for a second his record is ordinary, he managed to get the side with the biggest budget in their league promoted, that's about it. He showed no loyalty to Watford when the big money of Cardiff came calling and was shown none by them when he was clearly struggling when up with the big boys. This isn't about religion or narrow mindedness, it's about standards. I can accept ex-Celtic players playing for us, but I expect our managers to have some connection with us or else to be clearly outstanding candidates. The manager of Rangers should be an exalted position, the pinnacle of the game in this country. So there! I'll be applying for membership of Vanguard Bears directly...

What Zappa is suggesting is basically a Credit Union, and there is little reason we couldn't create one of them if we felt so inclined.
