GPL Predictions Bluebear54's GPL 2023/24: Rangers vs Morton
Graeme Ro55 replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Rangers 3 Morton 0 FGS Matondo -
My tupence worth. XG is a well designed way to describe what a players current capability is, or what his previous perfomance levels have been concerning taking chances. The problem with this is that "fans" see other aspects of players such as style and character and project that into our expectation or memory. That causes an uncomfortable difference between our opinion of a player and his XG.

After a wee look at the link it seems a great season (21/22) has catapulted them to fifth. Around eighth might be more their norm. -

"Eridivisie is a top 5 league". Is this just your opinion? This is just my opinion, but off the top of my head England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, France & Russia (when included) are all much better leagues. -
I now David Silva is a Worldy, and there is no comparison, but this is the kind of role I thought Hagi could pull off for us.

Had we a number nine who can head the ball BB's accurate crossing would be even more useful.
-
Butland for me.

Pretty damning stats imo. I doubt the Gersnet MOTM will come from these four. -

Agree, but I would add Danilo, Dessers and Sima need to extract the digit. -

Looks like a more defensive line up to me. Sad to see Lammers & Balogun out. -

Servette 1 - 2 Rangers FGS Danilo Tried going with my head, Tried going with my heart, This time it's a bit of both. 😁💙 C'mon The Gers -
Could not pick between Souttar and Balogun, so went for Cantwell.
-
Four nil to The Famous is fine result and I would take it every week until fifty six and beyond. That said I think we can be even better. The Souttar, Balogun pairing given time could be great imo. But we will never know as Goldson like Tav seems undroppable for reasons I do not understand. Wee Rabbi gave a fine account of himself too and Cantwell had another great game. I would still make room for Hagi too.

It's a win, The Gers did have a bit more width tonight, Cifu bagged a few minutes, Raskin & Cantwell were our best players for me. But as Servette were missing some of their better players and then went down to ten men for about forty minutes. That left me feeling like we should have scored more, maybe even killed the tie off. -

Lammers is not alone with having much to prove. Sima, Dessers, Danilo & co are in the same boat. I would imagine they would wecome a proven system to make it easier to win the fans over and get their confidence up. Then perhaps work towards a new system in steps they can digest. -
I still believe the original post in this thread asks an important question. My reason for starting this thread was not, "Beale out". I am not sitting here stabbing an effigy of MB. Anyone who thinks that I would not love him to win us 56 & 57 is crazy. The "experimental manager" thing does worry me though. If this experiment fails we will be handing the other lot 54, and if we go for another experimental manager after M.B we run the risk of letting them draw level with us. The thought of that is the reason why I started this thread. Can you imagine the crap we would have to put up with. Surely buying expensive players before hiring a proven manager is putting the cart before the horse was the question, not, "Who wants M.B out right now"?

If MB drops that crazy system I would be more than happy with those changes. -

I was a fan of his last season, but he has been poor of late. Hagi can pull off a killer pass for the strikers. -

Scrap the crazy non-tactics. Back to basics. Let our quality shine. Butland Sterling Souttar Balogun Ridvan Lammers Raskin Cifu Hagi Danilo Dessers -

What you state is correct Idisi, but we are Rangers and it is up to us to break them down using our much better funded squad. You cannot really blame McInnes for playing "anti football" if he succeeds against a team including single players who are worth more than his entire team. He is only using his nous as a football manager to allow his team to achieve a result. And keeping himself in a job.
