  1. POLL: Takeover Panel - Dave King share sale undertaking Members will be aware that the Chairman of Rangers International Football Club PLC (RIFC),Dave King, is being pursued by the Takeover Panel to make an offer for all of the shares in RIFC at a price of 20p, the same price at which the recent RIFC share issue was approved. The Takeover Panel’s action was prompted by a complaint from David Somers, who resigned as Chairman of RIFC’s Board shortly before the March 2015 meeting that installed the current regime at RIFC. The action by the Panel is just one unfortunate consequence of Somers’ time at our Club. We need hardly remind members of other misfortunes that befell the Club during the period he was Chairman. As Members will be aware, the purpose for which Club 1872 was formed was to acquire shares in RIFC, not to sell them. Far less to sell them at the same price we have just acquired them in the share issue and dilute our influence and participation in RIFC. We have been asked whether our CIC will sign an irrevocable undertaking not to sell our shares in RIFC at a price of 20p. This may assist in bringing matters with the Panel to an end by persuading them to reduce the cash confirmation they will require before an offer can be made. Such a decision is clearly one to be taken by our members. We would therefore ask you to vote by clicking the link below and logging in to your account - you will then be automatically redirected to the poll. The poll will close at midnight on Wednesday 26th September: VOTE HERE Club 1872 Issued by Supporters Voice Limited, a Club 1872 company
  2. Absolutely over the moon to extend my contract for this great club! #2022 Previous Article Next Article Tuesday, 18 September 2018, 18:00 by Nick Thomson 625 JAMES TAVERNIER tonight signed a new, improved contract with Rangers, keeping him at Ibrox until 2022, and it’s safe to say he’s thrilled. The club captain, who joined from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015, revealed he’s indebted to Rangers for helping relaunch his career after a tough few seasons in England’s lower leagues. He also opened up on transfer rumours involving him during the summer window, but insisted this is the only place he ever wanted to be. Speaking exclusively to RangersTV at Ibrox, Tavernier said: “I am delighted to go through the window and still be a Rangers player, and I have obviously been rewarded with a new contract. “I’ve always seen this as the place for me to play football. Rangers have always been great for me for giving me the foundation to start playing again and to start my career over again, and I will always hold that closely. WATCH MORE FROM TAVERNIER HERE ON RANGERSTV “There was a bit of interest in the summer, but I was fully focused on working with the gaffer in this new campaign being captain as well. “This season, I was really excited for what was going to come with the new team, and the gaffer with what he has brought in terms of the tactics and the new faces.” Tavernier has grown significantly as a player over the last three years, and he explained how his current position as club captain fulfils an ambition of his from back when he joined. “It was a dream [to be named captain],” he said. “I set a target when I first came, and said I wanted to wear that captain’s armband within five years. “I know some of the boys that have come in, and I know their qualities and what they bring. Even the other lads who I haven’t played with before have shown their qualities early in the season and have done really well for us. Tavernier is now gearing up for his next step in his Rangers career – the Europa League – having been tested and come through the Championship and the Premiership. He added: “People talk about big European nights at Rangers, and this is the first thing this season we had the chance to make right, especially after last season. “So we have made it to the group stages, and we have three great names in our group. For our first game, we are all buzzing for it and we can’t wait to put on a show. “We are just wanting to collect as many points as we can from now onwards.”
  3. I have a copy of the Excel files, not been updated since 2012. If memory serves me right I think its the work of a FF poster (HWNN?). Now it gets interesting, this from the files: "Against Celtic In some early day matches (like the 9-1 defeat of the Tims) it was our 2nd team (The Swifts) that played - but they're included because by most accounts our 2nd team were better than the first - and attracted bigger crowds too! Friendly 1888 Present 1888-89 Aug 11 Sat a Celtic 9 1 Unknown (9). Unknown. Southern League - Division A 1940-41 1946-47 1942-43 Jan 1 Fri H Celtic 8 1 30,000 Gillick (3). W Waddell (2). G Young (2, 1 pen). J Duncanson. Duncan. McDonald (Celtic) Lynch (Celtic) Our 1st team beat Celtic 8-1 in January 1943 (in the League) - so even if you exclude the 'Swifts' result (against what surely must've been their first X1 - they were 'founded' that year) that's the record result between our clubs! Don't let Celtic fans dissuade you of that fact - in the vast majority of Celtic books they include 'their' Goalscorers records from WW2 (only real difference from WW1 was their was crowd limits due to the German bombing!". But as I have already said on the same day Celtic gubbed Airdrie 8-0.
  4. Some of these old books leave a lot to be desired, no proper research done e.g John Allan. I would go with the Gallant Pioneers/Founders Trail guys, they have actually done detailed research. They have not mentioned this game to my knowledge?
  5. On that date 11/08/1888 Airdrie 0 - 6 Celtic. So apart from the date, teams and score the ET article is pretty accurate.
  6. The first league season was 1890-91. So don’t think that Is correct.
  7. Club urged SFA not to help Rangers in 2008, says George Peat 38 minutes ago From the sectionRangers Rangers lost 2-0 to Zenit St Petersburg in the 2008 Uefa Cup final Former Scottish FA president George Peat says a club chairman urged him "not to help Rangers in any way" amid a fixture backlog in 2008. The Ibrox side were competing on three fronts near the end of season 2007-08, having already won the League Cup. They lost the Uefa Cup final to Zenit St Petersburg and finished second to Celtic in the Scottish Premier League but won the Scottish Cup. "The prominent club asked me not to and I refused," Peat told BBC Scotland. Rangers played five games over 11 days at the end of the 2007-08 season, with the SPL responsible for the league fixture scheduling and the SFA having oversight of the Scottish Cup. The Ibrox side had two league games in hand and the finale to the SPL campaign was delayed for top-half sides from 18 May to 22 May so all six teams finished on the same day. After losing to Zenit in Manchester on 14 May, Rangers played rearranged league fixtures against Motherwell (17 May) and St Mirren (19 May) before losing against Aberdeen on 22 May as Celtic beat Dundee United to finish top of the table with a three-point lead. Rangers then beat Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup final two days later. When discussing his presidency from 2007-11, Peat was asked about what disappointments he had from his time with the SFA. And he explained: "There were certain things that disappointed me. One in particular disappointed me. "I remember when Rangers got to the final in Manchester. I got a phone call from a prominent chairman of a club requesting me not to help Rangers in any way. "And it so happened that I had already had a meeting with Lex Gold at the SPL because what we were willing to do was to extend the season because of the fixture pile-up that Rangers had and I was most disappointed when I got back to the office to receive this call to ask me not to help them in any way. "That really stuck in my throat."

  9. MEMBER UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2018 SHARES Club 1872 was pleased to attend the RIFC General Meeting in August 2018 to vote our shares according to the wishes of our members. The Resolution to approve the issue of up to 63,147,137 ordinary shares in RIFC at 20p per share to the persons named in the notice was passed, with 84.4% of shareholders who voted voting in favour. Club 1872 was among those named in the notice and as such, we will now purchase five million shares with £1m going directly into RIFC from our members. Once again, we thank the individual Rangers supporters and RSCs who backed our campaign to raise funds for this share issue, by signing up to Club 1872 or making oneoff donations. This campaign made up the bulk of our work over the last 8 months and we were delighted to hit our £1m target, but the work doesn’t stop there. Club 1872 will be offered further opportunities to help rebuild and support our club, but we can only do so with the support of thousands of Rangers fans. In order to maintain and grow our shareholding and influence we must attract more supporters to Club 1872. Please share news, updates and Club 1872 info with your Rangers supporting friends and family to encourage them to join us. The best way to grow our organisation is through word of mouth. PROJECTS Club 1872 proposed two projects over the summer, with members voting to approve both. Plans are now being taken forward to provide the Club with an adapted road vehicle to assist supporters with mobility difficulties from the Albion Car Park to the turnstiles at Ibrox. The vehicle will also be used to assist with transportation for disabled supporters to supporters buses and to help facilitate events such as dream days where sick children and their parents visit Ibrox and the Hummel Training Centre. Following the second project poll, Club 1872 will now support the Rangers Charity Foundation in its provision of a year long Walking Football programme to members of the Rangers family. Walking Football provides the opportunity for supporters aged 50+ to take part in the sport that they love. It targets socially isolated individuals using the hook of the club to bring people together for some physical exercise and the chance to build their network of people in the local community. In June 2018 Club 1872 Directors Euan Macfarlane, Joanne Percival and Laura Fawkes, along with ten Club 1872 members attended the unveiling of the Tom Vallance painting, which Club 1872 part-funded as a project following a member vote in 2017. This painting is a priceless part of our club’s history which dates back to 1890. Due to the fantastic work of the Founders Trail, this self-portrait by legendary captain Tom Vallance, who played with Rangers from 1874 to 1882, was discovered within Ibrox. It had unfortunately suffered some damage and neglect. Club 1872 was delighted to take the opportunity to help have it restored and hung prominently within the stadium. For more information on the painting and to watch the Rangers TV video on the unveiling, please visit our website here: http://club1872.co.uk/news/tom-vallance-painting-unveiled/ MEETINGS Club 1872 directors and working group volunteers continued to meet regularly over the summer period. Meetings with Stewart Robertson, Greg Marshall (Supporter Liaison Officer) and various other club representatives have also taken place to address and discuss the following points/issues: Communication - During the period immediately prior to Steven Gerrard’s appointment, Club 1872 urged the club to address concerns that communication with the support required significant improvement. Since then, we were pleased to see the Chairman release a number of statements to update the support on issues of concern. In addition, the club carried out a comprehensive fan survey in August 2018. Club 1872 representatives were given the opportunity to participate in focus groups prior to the launch of the survey. While we remain aware that the club cannot update on every issue that is of concern to the support, we acknowledge efforts to improve fan engagement. As a major shareholder, we continue to communicate with the club on legal and commercial matters on which we are unable to comment at this time, but as soon as we are able to do so we will update our membership on these matters. Policing - a number of concerns were raised over the policing of home, away and European games, including why Osijek fans were allowed to march with inadequate police supervision on Paisley Road West prior to the match on Thursday 2nd August, and the treatment of our supporters in Maribor. Club 1872 has been in close contact with Club security staff on these matters and will meet with Police Scotland and the Club in September to discuss these and other issues. Ticket payments - In response to feedback from members on the timing of payments to be taken for the Europa League 3 match package, Club 1872 contacted Rangers to suggest that more time be allocated for supporters to make payments. The Club responded swiftly to this feedback and announced within 24 hours that an extension had been granted. It is not always possible for us to directly influence club policy so effectively but we will always raise members concerns and do our best to ensure they are addressed. Fanzone - Club 1872 has been in regular dialogue with the club about plans for an Ibrox Fanzone, which unfortunately have now been delayed due to inappropriate intervention from Glasgow City Councillors (see below for more info on this). Club 1872 assisted the Club with the submission of the application for the Fanzone, outlining the ways in which it would benefit the Rangers community and the local community. We also progressed plans for a branded Club 1872 gazebo to be included in the Fanzone, and organised volunteers to attend as representatives of the organisation. This gazebo will now be located in the regular Fanzone in front of Edmiston House for home games. Parking restrictions - Club 1872 liaised with Rangers SLO, Greg Marshall to encourage our members and the wider Rangers support to submit objections to the proposed match day parking restrictions around Ibrox. Club 1872 polled members in 2017 on whether we should oppose the plans. As members voted overwhelmingly that we should object to the proposals, we have continued to act on members’ behalf to oppose the planned restrictions. In May 2018, we submitted an organisational objection to Glasgow City Council and we remain in dialogue with them and with individual supporters who have raised objections. ADMIN/IT Over the summer, our directors and admin assistant have worked closely with our webmaster to assess our website and background IT systems and how they are functioning to support the organisation. It has become clear through this process that some updates and improvements would be very beneficial. On completion of this assessment, we will communicate further details of proposed changes to members. RSC Our RSC working group continues to reach out to RSCs to encourage them to support Club 1872 and to engage them on issues that Club 1872 can take forward on their behalf. Club 1872 representatives met in August with the Rangers Supporters Association to maintain links with the RSC community. A number of updates on RSC events have gone out on our social media channels. You can keep up to date by following us here Insta ? - instagram.com/club1872rfc/ Twitter - @club1872rfc FB " - m.facebook.com/club1872rfc/ YouTube ? - https://m.youtube.com/#/channel/UCKx9wlrUO3QWyg_y95HOrKA? sub_confirmation=1 CAMPAIGNS As stated above, plans for an Ibrox Fanzone were delayed after a late intervention from Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken, her deputy, David McDonald and Councillor Stephen Dornan. Club 1872 has written to both councillors, submitted a number of Freedom Of Information requests in relation to this intervention and has reported the three councillors to the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland. Details of our actions on this issue have been emailed to members and can also be found in the News section of our website. http://club1872.co.uk/news/club-1872-statement-ibrox-fanzone/ http://club1872.co.uk/news/club-1872-fanzone-correspondence-susan-aitken-and-davidmcdonald/ http://club1872.co.uk/news/club-1872-take-further-action-over-susan-aitken-and-davidmcdonald/ WORKING GROUPS As a volunteer organisation, we rely on members to help us grow and develop Club 1872. Some members who previously volunteered for a one year term have recently stepped away from their roles and as such we have since welcomed new volunteers to various working groups and currently have plans to meet others who are interested in helping out. We thank those who gave their time to support the organisation and would encourage any members who are interested in supporting us as part of our working group structure to email us at info@club1872.co.uk MANAGER SPONSORSHIP Club 1872 is delighted to continue our sponsorship of the Rangers manager by confirming our sponsorship this season of Steven Gerrard. As always, an experience will take place later in the season to allow lucky members to meet the manager at the Hummel Training Centre. Our sponsorship is paid through commissions received from the Rangers Lotto. We also use our Lotto commission to provide four season tickets, for all home games, to Erskine veterans. If you would like to support this activity then please nominate Club 1872 as your lotto agent. This is something you can do as a new sign up or by contacting the Lotto and asking them to change agent to Club 1872. HEART AND HAND PODCAST Club 1872 director, Euan McFarlane recently appeared on the Heart and Hand podcast to discuss his personal involvement with Club 1872 and topics of interest regarding the organisation. You can listen to the podcast here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/club-1872-euan-21036338 We expect to appear regularly on the podcast in the coming months - to spread the word about Club 1872 and encourage more Rangers supporters to join us.
  10. Last line is a cracker! Hampden v Murrayfield: Scottish FA opts to keep games in Glasgow BBC Scotland Hampden Park has been the home of the Scotland national team since 1906 The Scottish FA will be staying at Hampden after agreeing to buy the national stadium from Queen's Park. A deal has been struck to pay the League Two club £5m for the Glasgow ground. The SFA was contemplating moving to Murrayfield, the home of Scottish Rugby, once its Hampden lease expires in 2020. But instead it will now take ownership of the ground in two years' time. Half of the money to complete the cash takeover was pledged by Scottish businessman Lord Willie Haughey, with Queen's Park set to move their matches to Lesser Hampden. While the Glasgow side will receive £5m for the deal, it is believed the total cost to the SFA will be in the region of £19m because of liabilities going back to when the stadium was redeveloped in 1998. SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell has promised that the body will now look at improving the stadium, which has been criticised by supporters during the process. "Our mission is to inspire a nation to love the game and having a home that we can call our own is an important part of that," he said. "While we are now committed to Hampden Park we also recognise that it needs to change. We have heard the fans' views throughout the process and agree with them that we need to improve access, transport links and the overall experience. We are committed to doing that. "With that in mind, we need all of Scotland to pull together to make it Scotland's national stadium. We have heard many voice their support for the stadium. We need collective action, driven by the Scottish FA, to ensure it remains the beating heart of Scottish football." Not a foregone conclusion The SFA commissioned a feasibility study to assess all the options and rejected a proposal in January from Celtic and Rangers to share hosting of internationals and domestic cup matches. But various hurdles, including the cost of such a deal, ensured it was not a foregone conclusion. The board met for several hours on 29 August but were unable to come to a conclusion and asked both bidders to provide more information before making a final decision. "Today's announcement has been the conclusion of a four-year process to review our national stadium beyond 2020," said SFA president Alan McRae. "It was a hugely difficult decision and I would like to place on record our thanks to Scottish Rugby for their professionalism throughout the process. "They made a truly compelling case to move to Edinburgh and gave us a very difficult decision to make. I would like to pay tribute to the inspiration, energy and hard work of Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Mark Dodson, and his Chief Operating Officer, Dominic McKay - both are true leaders in Scottish sport. "This decision is about what was best for Scottish football and our members. It is about the future of football in Scotland. "I would also like to thank everyone who has been part of this process and to recognise the enormous generosity of Lord Haughey." What are the benefits of staying at Hampden? The stadium in Glasgow's south side has been hosting Scotland's matches for 112 years, as well as the majority of Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup finals - and latterly semi-finals too - since 1903. It is regarded by many, including a majority of former players and managers, as the "spiritual home" of Scottish football. But that emotional attachment is partially offset by complaints from fans about poor infrastructure and transport links, and a distance between the stands and the action when seated behind the goals. However, Darryl Broadfoot, a former Scottish FA communications director, said "there is a mythology over Hampden's transport problems". "There are actually three train stations in the vicinity," he told BBC Scotland. "The problem is enough trains going there, which is a conversation - or a demand - that has to be placed on the rail provider." Hampden's current capacity is just under 52,000, but it is rarely full for Scotland games and some domestic cup semi-finals. Some have suggested reducing the capacity to about 35,000 and bringing the two stands behind the goals closer to the pitch.
