  2. From BBC website Former Celtic and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths has been questioned by police investigating gambling in sport. The 32-year-old footballer confirmed officers came to his home in South Lanarkshire at 7am on Thursday. Officers took him to the London Road police station in Glasgow. Griffiths said he was not arrested and has denied any wrong doing. He declined to discuss the subject of the questioning. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said it had carried out a "pre-planned" operation on Thursday 1 December. The force issued a statement, saying: "Following a pre-planned police operation on Thursday, December 1, three men aged 37, 35 and 32 were arrested in the Bothwell, Bonnyrigg and Airdrie areas in connection with an investigation into alleged gambling incidents in sport. "All three men were released without charge pending further enquiries." Leigh Griffiths won seven league titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups with Celtic. In 2017 the striker secured his place in Scottish footballing folklore by scoring two free-kicks for the national side in a 2-2 draw against England at Hampden. He has been without a club for six months and has been training with Livingston.

  6. Dave King Q&A - Part 2 Dear Contributor, On Monday 21st November 2022, we held a Q&A with former Rangers Chairman, Dave King. As promised the event was recorded for Contributors. Mr King answered questions from Contributors in attendance and also from those who submitted questions via email. He spoke for just over an hour and covered a large number of topics. The second part of the video is now available to view. In this part, Dave King discusses his thoughts on how he will vote on the resolutions at the upcoming Rangers AGM, his concern over the lack of investment in the team and communication around that, his thoughts on recent interest in the club from American investor Kyle Fox and how he believes the Rangers Board should move forward. We have had some sound issues on the video which were a combination of the way the sound was captured and also the Zoom link to South Africa breaking up. We apologise for this and have added subtitles to Part 2 of the Q&A to assist viewers. Please turn subtitles on if they do not show automatically from the start. We are working on the subtitles and the sound on the third and final part of the video where the call broke up most, and hope to have that with Contributors in the coming days. You can view Part 2 of the Q&A here - https://youtu.be/tCOCSyjlEew Part 1 of the Q&A, it is available here - https://youtu.be/IYQW3q9xGQY Club 1872
  7. Contributor Blog: Rangers AGM – The RIFC Board’s Five Year Plan Last week I attended the Dave King Q&A with Club 1872 members and listened to his answers with interest. Not just because I was keen to hear Mr King’s take on everything Rangers but also because I had submitted a question on the upcoming Rangers AGM resolutions and was pleased to get some perspective from an experienced, ex RIFC Board member. It was clear from the Q&A that Mr King will vote against Douglas Park’s re-election in Resolution 2, but my question was about Resolutions 7 and 8 which have changed significantly this year from what we are used to. Mr King indicated that he will vote against these resolutions too and in that we are agreed. I will cast both my Club 1872 vote and my vote on my own shares at the Rangers AGM against these resolutions, mainly because I cannot see any justification for them in the current climate. Resolutions 7 and 8, taken together, give the RIFC Board the right to issue as many shares as they like, at whatever price they want, to any party they choose for a period of five years without further shareholder approval. This differs considerably from previous, similar resolutions which only asked for this authority to last for one year and for which I have previously voted in favour. It is not at all clear why the RIFC Board have changed these resolutions this year. I would have welcomed the opportunity to ask Douglas Park about this had he agreed to speak to Club 1872 members but he refused. That is unfortunate as perhaps he would have been able to explain why he feels shareholders should hand such wide ranging powers to the Board at this time. What is particularly strange for me is that we have now entered a period where the existing board members and large investors are no longer issuing shares to themselves in return for loans, but are instead charging the club interest and asking for the cash back. Who then are these shares for? Also, will shares to be offered to fans or will our shareholding be further diluted by the board, as it was almost immediately after investing via the Tifosy share issue? These resolutions, if they pass, mean the board does not have to answer these questions, or any others about investment into the club, they can simply do whatever they like. I have seen some criticism of Mr King’s position on voting against these resolutions. His critics say this would block investment into the club. Of course this is not true. The board can seek permission from shareholders at any time to issue shares. Voting against these resolutions doesn’t stop inward investment, it just means the board would have to come to shareholders to ask for, and crucially explain why they wanted, this authority. Instead, against a backdrop where fans are already concerned that the board won’t engage with them, they are asking for authority not to have to engage with shareholders or supporters on the issue of investment into the club for a period of five years. As a minimum, since they themselves have stopped their own investment into the club, the board should be outlining why they want this authority. Instead, the change to five years has been sneaked into the resolutions without any explanation for the change. Every Club 1872 member must of course make their own decision on Resolution 7 and 8 but I will be following Mr King’s lead and voting against. If Club 1872 and other supporters vote against Resolution 8 at the Rangers AGM then there is a chance it will not pass as it requires 75% of shareholders to be in favour. Perhaps then the Rangers board would realise that they should engage with shareholders and fans and lay our their plans to be assessed on their own merits, rather than quietly seeking authority to do whatever they like for the next 5 years. CR
  8. “Finally, this is a coveted managerial position and after an intense week of discussions, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to all of the excellent managers who we met to discuss the role.” Wonder who they were if this is true? I doubt it is.

  10. I’m one who is underwhelmed by this appointment(if confirmed). What research into other managers did the board do? Did they interview anyone else? If the board have such a high opinion of Beale why not give him the job when Gerrard left? Anyway we will all need to give him a chance now.

  13. Borrowed from elsewhere. Having worked in the St Enoch Store under Elite, this is my definitive understanding of what is going on. Disclaimer; this is my understanding mixed with my opinion and some logic. Happy to be corrected on any matter as I’m just passing on what I’ve gathered. Rangers entered into the deal with Elite, who are partnered with Hummel, and are Hummel’s exclusive UK supplier. The deal went against our (at the time)current deal with SD, as we didn’t give them a chance to match the deal before accepting Elite’s offer. Now I think the club were trying to be sneaky here, as from my understanding, they entered into 2 seperate deals. Deal one was a 3 year kit supply deal, in which Elite would provide kits manufactured by their partner Hummel. We also entered into a 5 year retail deal with Elite, in which Elite would run our retail operations, by way of shops and online. The sneaky aspect of this, was that Elite would be classed as a “Non exclusive Retail Partner”, which I think the club hoped would be a loop hole surrounding SD’s monopoly on the “exclusive retail partner”. Obviously SD challenged this and in 2018 an injunction was granted which, as Hummel/Elite are now claiming, prevented Rangers from fulfilling their end of the contract. However, it didn’t stop Elite, who, to begin with we’re happy to carry on with their fulfilments, based on assurances from Rangers that they would beat the SD injunction. Obviously I wasn’t privy to whatever Rangers’ obligations were, but I know there was a lot surrounding club premises, branding, advertising, etc etc Over the coming seasons Elite grew impatient as Rangers seemed to be not making any great waves in the SD case, but seemed happy to receive the benefits of the deal that Elite were fulfilling. (2 shops open, online shop up and running, kits supplied and money paid for season 1 and 2, not to mention a totally separate but in good faith naming sponsorship deal for the training ground). So come the beginning of season 3, Elite with hold the upfront payment in defiance of Rangers apparent lack of effort to perform any obligations of the contract. Rangers decide to take legal action, and that is the £2/3m that we are suing Elite for, as we claim them withholding money is a breach of contract. From what I was told, it was then Hummel who made the call to end the kit deal as they were angry at Rangers for taking legal action due to breach, when Elite/Hummel felt Rangers were in breach first. This is what then led to the new deal with Castore, who took on a new Kit Deal and new “Exclusive Retail Deal” (seemingly at the approval of SD). However, the 5 year “Non Exclusive Retail Deal” with Elite was never terminated. This is why the store in St Enoch remained open for so long. It was running legally under the “non exclusive” contract, along side the “Exclusive” Castore deal. (Which ultimately was Rangers goal to beat SD, have it run along side SD’s “Exclusive” deal which ofcourse the court injunction foiled). The store in St Enoch only closed when the majority of staff left and they knew they couldn’t hire anyone else to work in it, it wasn’t forced shut by Rangers or anything. So from that I gather that now Hummel/Elite are suing for loses relating to season 1 and 2, in which they feel they would have made more money had Rangers fulfilled their advertising and branding obligations as well as providing a stadium premises. (Which the SD injunction prevented). Season 3 break down of the contract, they blame rangers for the breach of contract leading to the contract break down. Season 4 and 5 they probably assumed they of gotten a renewed Kit deal due to the coinciding retail deal but even had Rangers not renewed and went with a new supplier, Elite would claim they could still have made money as a retail partner, even with a different kit manufacturer. So that’s where we are.. we are suing for lost kit sales in S3, blaming Hummel/Elite for the relationship break down due to breach, they are suing for lost sales in S1,S2, S3 and potential sales in S4 and S5, and blaming Rangers for the break down due to breach! I’ve heard rumours that Elite are going into admin, the Southampton and Millwall statements seem to support it. This being brought back to the forefront is perhaps a last throw of the dice to recoup some money before it goes tits up.
  14. Millwall and Coventry also cutting ties due to lack of supplies.
  15. Southampton FC have announced that their retail operation will be shutting down for a short though unspecified period of time due to issues with an external third party, read on for more details. Saints have announced on their official website the need to shut down both online operations as well as their retail outlets, due to ongoing issues with Elite Sports Group, the external third party who manage the retail side of things for not only Southampton FC but a number of other clubs. Although this is said not to be a long term issue, it does mean that all sales of merchandise will cease for a short period. A look online shows Elite Sports Group to be "the Exclusive Brand Partner of Danish Football brand Hummel. We activate Bespoke kit programmes for all our clubs, and also manage some of our clubs retail and online operation." They also seem to provide other merchandise for club's that are not related to the branded playing kit and training gear. This seems to suggest that the problem for Saints will be stock, although they will have a supply of merchandise, how much of a stock they have and indeed who owns the stock could be open for debate, when it runs out it will take time to source new suppliers etc and that could mean that the lucrative Xmas market could be missed. The full statement reads as follows "The club was recently made aware of significant business and fulfilment challenges being experienced by our external third-party retail partner, Elite Sports Group, who manage the online and physical retail operation of a number of clubs, including ours. We have been working with Elite Sports Group to fully understand what those challenges are and how we might minimise any disruption for our fans. However, following further developments today, we have taken the difficult decision to end our partnership with them. This decision allows us to proceed with our contingency plan, but will unfortunately result in the unavoidable closure of our online and physical stores for a short period of time. We will communicate further once we have confirmed timings for reopening our retail stores, and more information on how we can ensure existing orders are fulfilled. However, in the meantime, any fans who are concerned about existing orders can contact retail@saintsfc.co.uk. With Black Friday sales and the Christmas shopping period upon us, we recognise the importance of this time of year for supporters wanting to purchase gifts and are doing all we can to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We thank all our fans for being patient at this time and apologise for any inconvenience."

  18. Dave King has lit the fuse ahead of next month’s powderkeg Rangers AGM by revealing he’ll be voting against the re-election of chairman Douglas Park. The former Ibrox chief has jetted back into Glasgow ahead of the December 6 shareholder summit to declare it’s time for a change at the top of the marble staircase. The South Africa-based tycoon has voiced fears that Rangers will be left behind if they do not find the fresh impetus needed to challenge Celtic’s domination of Scottish football. Park is on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Gio van Bronckhorst on Monday, with the Dutchman paying the price for allowing their Old Firm rivals to surge nine points clear and towards an 11th title in the last 12 years. Now King - who mounted an unsuccessful attempt to dislodge Park’s son Graeme from the Ibrox boardroom at last year’s AGM - is coming back for the main man Asked if fans should back the chairman’s re-election, the Castlemilk-born tycoon said: “What I would say is I’m not voting for that. The situation is recoverable. "I think we can be back winning the title, but the way things are going at the moment, unless changes are made to the leadership of the board and the executive of the club, I fear we’ll be stagnating for a long time to come.” King has been involved in a long-running dispute with the men he once joined forces with as they wrestled control of Ibrox back from Mike Ashley in 2015. The fall-out stems from his decision to stand down from the board just as the Covid pandemic was sinking its teeth into the club’s balance sheet. King, still the club’s biggest individual shareholder, has spent much of the two years-and-a-half years since sniping from the sidelines - with his attacks ranging from the failure to deliver on budget promises to former boss Steven Gerrard in the wake of the club’s 2021 title win to the treatment of supporters as customers and “ATMs”. The former Ibrox supremo - who also plans on voting against a motion allowing the board to issue shares to hand-picked investors - said: “The fact is, I was already having concerns about where this regime was headed. “I felt some of the things happening were unacceptable, un-Rangers-like. The treatment of ex-players, the treatment of supporters. I felt voting against Graeme would make that point. “I had to put my money where my mouth was and use my vote to go along with what my concerns were. It was heading in the wrong direction. “I didn’t like the way Steven Gerrard was forced out of the club. It’s not the way to treat people that delivered a title for us. I couldn’t not vote with my conscience. “We really should have invested and kicked on. We could have bought Steven what he wanted. There were reasons why I had to go (from the board). “At the time, I felt the board would continue. I regret what happened. When I go back to 55, we should have kicked on with a great manager and defended the title. I think the board thought they could do it on the cheap.” King has struck a deal with Club 1872 that could one day see the fan group take control of his 15.13 percent stake in the club. But he hit out at the board’s refusal to engage with the organisation, saying: “Douglas makes the point that he’s put in all this money and he’s not letting supporters tell him how to spend his money. “I’ve put in more than Douglas. I’ve put in more money than any one person in the history of the club. But I’ll tell you what. The supporters have put in a lot more than me. “They put in more than any investor and always have done. Just be honest with the supporters. Tell them what you are doing with the money. Then they’ll still back you.
  19. MARKINCH MEMORIAL GARDEN PROJECT Everyone in the footballing community will either remember or have heard of the Ibrox Disaster on January 2nd 1971,Sadly that day 5 schoolboys aged between 13 and 15 years from a little town called Markinch in Fife lost their lives in a crush. The street where 4 of them stayed has a memorial stone facing down it however recently vehicles have been driving on the grass around the memorial making it unsightly and harder to maintain. Markinch Community Council, Fife Council and Glenrothes Loyal Rangers Supporters Club have investigated the erection of a wrought iron fence around the 5 remembrance trees and the memorial, the lifting of grass and replacing it with granite chips and possibly a bench if funds can stretch. We feel this enhancement will give the memorial the prominence it deserves and also make it more conspicuous to the many visitors who come from worldwide to pay their respects, The whole project of fence, landscaping and a bench is approx £10,000 with the fence alone being £7650.://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/markinch-memorial-garden-project
