  4. Rangers' Edmiston House hosts Indie Beer Scotland festival By Brian Donnelly@BrianDonnellyHTBusiness Correspondent New Rangers venue to host craft beer festival's first Glasgow event (Image: Indie Beer Scotland) A new craft beer festival is to be held in Glasgow. The Indie Beer Scotland festival is aiming to be twice the size of the inaugural event in the Scottish capital last year. Organisers said that after a "hugely successful" launch in Edinburgh in 2022 Indie Beer Scotland is to be held at the new Clyde Rooms at Edmiston House event space in Glasgow. It is claimed Indie Beer Scotland is now the country’s largest craft beer festival, featuring over two hundred different cask and craft keg beers from some of Scotland’s best independent craft breweries – double last year – and cider and spirits from independent Scottish producers. |Indie Beer Scotland is organised by Scottish brewers from the not-for-profit trade association the Society of Independent Brewers. Indie Beer Scotland runs from Friday September 8 until Saturday September 9. (Image: Indie Beer Scotland) Festival organiser Fiona MacEachern, from Loch Lomond Brewery, said the new venue is “set to take the event to the next level”. She said: “We’re really excited to be working with Edmiston House to present Scotland’s only National beer festival, featuring exclusively Scottish independent craft breweries, cider producers, and artisan spirits, again from independent producers only. “The Clyde Rooms at Edmiston House is a superb modern event space with ground floor access, just a short walk from the tube and with great connections and transport links.” Indie Beer Scotland also aims to offer value for money, with a huge number of session beers including cask and craft keg frozen at last year’s prices. “Beer should be enjoyed by everybody, which is why we work really hard to ensure we offer great value for money as well as the best possible range of beers in huge variety of styles and strengths – from hoppy IPAs and Pale Ales, to craft lagers, pilsners and stouts. "No matter what styles of beer you enjoy we really have got something for everyone, and all cask and keg beers up to 4.5% are available for just £4 a pint or £2 a half,” Ms MacEachran said. Indie Beer Scotland is also the home of the SIBA Scotland Independent Beer Awards 2023, with judging taking place to name Scotland’s very best beers prior to the festival opening to the public, making festival-goers the first to try Scotland’s official best beers, with all this year’s winning beers available over the three sessions Friday to Saturday. Beers range from session strength lagers and pale ales of 4%, to barrel-aged imperial stouts and scotch ales which tip the scales at a punchy 10% abv or more. Ms MacEachern said: “With both our cask and keg competition taking place at Indie Beer Scotland for the first time there really is going to be something for everybody, from traditional cask beers in a wide variety of styles, to modern IPAs and small-batch lagers from independent producers. "Whether you’re a casual beer drinker or certified beer expert there’ll be something interesting for you to enjoy.”
  5. Record Sport understands the Jambos are slashing the number of travelling fans inside their Gorgie ground due to bumper season ticket sales and the demand from walk up punters for home tickets. It means 10 of the 11 clubs visiting the capital next season will be given just one section of the Roseburn stand for Premiership fixtures. A gentleman’s agreement with the Hibees means Hearts’ neighbours will be exempt from the new policy regarding away briefs. They will continue to get all 3,600 seats behind the goals, which ensures Hearts in return will still receive the entire South Stand at Easter Road when they travel across town on derby day. But the remaining top flight fan bases face a ticket scramble when taking on Steven Naismith’s side this season, Celtic and Rangers in particular

  12. From the Sun (I know) - Rangers proposal. COME AWAY IN Rangers ready to make Celtic fans away ticket offer and end Old Firm lockout Andy Devlin Published: 22:30, 5 Jul 2023 Updated: 22:53, 5 Jul 2023 RANGERS are ready to end Old Firm away fan lockouts by extending an olive branch to Celtic. SunSport can reveal the Light Blues are preparing to offer their Glasgow rivals 700 tickets for the first derby of the new season. The match is scheduled to take place at Ibrox on September 3, with Rangers making the first move in a bid to find a resolution to the ‘no away fans’ stand-off. Back in May, new Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove admitted there was still “a long way to go” in the allocation row which has rumbled on since 2018. But it’s understood Gers are now willing to welcome Hoops supporters back to Ibrox. Celtic had been accustomed to occupying the entire Broomloan Road end until their allocation was slashed in line with other Premiership teams. The Parkhead club responded in kind by cutting Gers’ seating space at Celtic Park. The saga took another twist for the final two Old Firm matches of last season, with no away fans admitted at all. But talks between both clubs have since taken place, with Rangers now in a position to offer Celtic 700 briefs. It’s understood that number can’t be increased due to the tickets already sold to home fans.

  14. From Daily Record. Rangers are hoping to tap into the Saudi oil money well as former boss Steven Gerrard prepared a £2m offer for winger Scott Wright. Record Sport understands newly appointed El-Attifaq manager Gerrard has placed Wright’s name on a list of targets after agreeing to make the switch to the Middle East earlier this week on the same day as Celtic winger Jota. And the player’s advisers have already been contacted by representatives of the Pro League outfit - as well as at least one rival Saudi club - who are looking to thrash out a deal before the end of this week. Gerrard signed Wright as a free agent from Aberdeen during his time in charge of the Ibrox club and, despite keeping him on the fringes of his first team at that time, he is now ready to splash some cash to make the 25-year-old one of his first new recruits. Wright is deemed surplus to requirements by current Rangers boss Michael Beale who is in the middle of overseeing a major summer rebuild of the squad he inherited from Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Beale is expected to confirm on Wednesday that Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers will become his sixth signing of the summer. Any cash he raises from sales will be ploughed back into his existing pot. Rangers top brass have also been alerted to reports that Gerrard could be plotting a move for skipper James Tavernier. But Record Sport understands that neither the club nor Tavernier’s agents have received any contact to discuss a possible switch.

  18. Ronald De Boer has his say. The 53-year-old said: “The strange thing is, they are definitely very different types of strikers. For me, Dessers might be a little more suitable for Scottish football because he’s more physical as a No.9. But it depends on what kind of team and what kind of philosophy you have. If you want to play more like total football then Danilo is a perfect player for that. “Danilo is more about movement and pressing high. Of course, he will stand his ground but he’s totally different than Dessers’ type. Dessers will use his body more. If that’s what you want then he is probably the better option. But you have to look at what does the manager really want for the style he wants to play? That is something crucial. If you want a guy who waits for the moment, doesn’t get involved that much in the build up and gets in the box then it’s Dessers. But if you want to play high pressing football and you want to link up then Danilo is the perfect guy. But, first, you have to make up your mind.” It seems highly unlikely Beale will be able to afford both given that Cremonese are demanding around £6.5million for their man and Feyenoord will accept nothing under £5m for theirs. De Boer believes, if Beale is looking for a like-for-like replacement of Morelos, then Dessers fits the bill. But his blessing comes with a caveat. He went on: “Dessers is a very opportunistic player. If he’s not in form, or when the confidence is not there, he’s a very limited player. Then you think, ‘Who the hell did we sign here!’. "But when the guy has confidence then you think, ‘Woah! Where is this coming from?’. Because when he’s playing at his best he does everything on instinct. He waits for his prey and then he attacks. “But, for me, he’s a player who, when he’s feeling comfortable and the manager believes in him, he can add a lot of value. But it all depends on if he’s feeling good. If he feels good he’ll give Rangers a lot of pleasure. But it can also go the other way. If you want a type like Morelos then there is no doubt, you go for Dessers. What you would get from Dessers is a much better work ethic than Morelos gave the team over the last year. “Morelos did also great things but, in the last 12 months, he didn’t really look fit. Of course, he had an injury but his mentality was not spot on. With Dessers you would get a guy who wants to show himself and, if I see him on television, he’s also a nice person and a good character. A totally different character than Morelos.” Danilo, though, would be De Boer’s choice when it comes to a more rounded attacker. He said: “If you press high he’s amazing at that and he’s a very decent football player. Also, in the box, he can head the ball even though he’s not big. If he gets the chance to play every week he will only get better. “Let’s put it this way, if you’re talking about marking players from zero to 10, Dessers can be a nine. But he can also play like a two. With Danilo, he will never go lower than a six. He can also play a nine but he would never go below a six. With Dessers that can happen.” And De Boer believes he choice may rest not just on price but on which of the two Beale believes will link up best with another new arrival, Dutchman Sam Lammers. He said: “Sam is also a technical player but where is he going to play? Is he going to play as a number ten? Or will he play with two strikers? If he wants to play with two strikers then Danilo is the perfect guy to play with Sam. But, if Dessers if feeling fine he is an amazing target man. “Sam was one of the biggest talents at PSV Eindhoven and he has a lot of quality. But can he do it? He has the potential but I wouldn’t put money on it. With him I still have a bit of doubt. Danilo? My brother worked with him at Ajax and he liked him also. He’ll only get better in my eyes. He has a great work ethic and he scores some great goals. Dessers score goals also but he’s more of an opportunistic player. He can be crazy for you in a positive way but it’s like a coin on its side with him, it could go either way!” But De Boer has a gut feeling Beale will work it all out for himself. He said: “From what I heard, he’s been very impressive. He deserves a good start and maybe, when his team has an injection of quality, he can do even better and really challenge Celtic. That would be a dream but, so far, he has done a marvellous job.”
