  1. Cedric Itten playing in the CL and scoring. But we are not a CL team most will say.
  2. He will take over a jobber team in the championship , do well for 6 months then the wheels will fall off. He will also need to get back involved with youth football or he will have ran out of players to sign by 2028 as all the players he worked with and against would have all retired.
  3. And he was complaining about the referee making 'strange decisions' after the game. Cant make it up.
  4. 5. Chris Jack reporting Muscat has an interview today via Zoom.
  6. I think the only person that made Warburtons job more difficult was Warburton. He came in and refreshed the playing squad with some great young players. Tav and Waghorn being the standouts when first appointed. His pursuit and signing of O'Halloran was baffling the following winter. The signings of Crooks and Windass were exciting to the support on pre-contracts. Then in his second season and our return to the top flight he had completely 180 his signing policy and started signing guys like Senderos, Kranjkar and Barton. His lengthy pursuit and big money signing Joe Garner turning out to be a client of a player agency his daughter had involvement with made it seem rather murky. I remember his quote when he seen the supporter display at the first home game back against Hamilton 'Going for 55' - he said his heart sank the moment he saw it. I think that sums up the mentality of the man. We were never going to win the league that year, everyone knew it but it was a signal of intent to build something that we could challenge with in subsequent years. A challenge Warburton himself didn't think he was up to.
  7. I voted for Gallardo but would take Clement. The rest are meh
  8. If we are even considering or talking to Lampard then that's a sign of real incompetence from the powers that be.
  9. He's one worth watching as is Stephen Robinson at St Mirren but they need to prove a bit more int he SPFL first.
  10. Results driven business ultimately. But if the performances improve and the support can see an upward trajectory then the aneurisms should be kept at bay.
  11. If we look at recent history, our club seems to achieve the most success with a very specific type of manager / head coach. A man manager like Smith and McLeish, while not tactical masterminds worked miracles on limited budgets at times (Walter second time around obviously). While football has changed since they had their success with us. I can see the value of getting a manager that can motivate a talented squad to play at 100% every week as opposed to one that can go into great granular tactical detail on how to beat the 10 man defence of St Johnstone and Aberdeen while cruising along at 50%. Who that manager is I don't know, but its worth taking into consideration.
  12. Rijkaard - yeah fair. Seemed to disappear after success at Barca but IIRC he built the foundation for that Pep side. Koeman - I think you'd need to be more specific about the success he has had. Far more failures IMO Cruyff - Yeah this one is fair. But I think he was a one off and a great fit for Barca (I see a theme emerging) Advocaat - short term success at us after outspending the opposition considerably. Wheels fell off very quickly. Did well in Russia but I have my doubts about the legitimacy of the domestic competition van Gaal - Did ok initially and then was sacked everywhere seems to be the theme first at Bayern, success here didn't last long at all. Did ok at Barca then it fell apart. Didn't do well at Man U IMO. Seemed to fall out with everyone and leave after a year or so. Hiddink - Had a lot of jobs - where would you consider him a success outside PSV? I think there are a few exceptions to the rule but I think the rule in general is sound. Mark van Bommel is doing well at Antwerp, however they have Marc Overmars as head of football operations and have assimilated many Dutch players and staff. I think that can work in Belgium but wouldn't want to see us take that approach. Peter Bosz a good example abject failure everywhere he has been outside of Holland, goes back to PSV and looks like he might have a good go at the title. ten Haag recently at Man U - done well domestically and in Europe at Ajax. I cant think of a top club coveting a Dutch manager in recent times. Arne Slot at Feyenoord is the next 'big thing' so will be interesting to see how he gets on when he takes the next step. Was linked with Spurs. Rumor is he knocked them back(!) but i think that Ange was a done deal there for a while and was seeing time out up here.
  13. Yep, has basically taken over from him, kept the team playing the same way and if he gets stuck gives Ange a phone for advice. That's not a Rangers manager for me.
  14. I think they banned all the Rangers fans there. Its only the timposters and the mods now.
  15. Dutch schooled manager - they don't tend to perform well outside of Holland AZ Alkmaar - were performing well under previous coach who done well at Feyenoord, has the built something better or is he keeping a good thing going How much influence in transfers does he have or is it a DoF led / analyst & scout approach? What is 'success' at Alkmaar? if its finishing about 8th place or higher in the league, that's not exactly representative of expectations here Is 50 odd and in his first managers job How often do AZ Alkmaar play against the low block and can he beat it? Done ok in Europe to be fair
  16. He shouldn’t have to assemble anything he should already have these people in place. But doing it now is bettter than not doing it at all.
