I've probably banged on about this for long enough, but in terms of squad building you'd probably want to follow a general rule of: Wages are illustrative as an example 6 key first-team players who start every game if fit at £25k per week (Butland, Tav, Cerny) 10 first-team players who rotate based on game style (e.g. beating the low block or playing against a team like Benfica) at £12k per week (Ridvan, Dujon, Soutter, Dio) 9 squad players/investment players at £6k per week (either players aged 21 and younger or experienced players like Balogun) Total playing wage approx.: 6 players x £25k = £150k 10 players x £12k = £120k 9 players x £6k = £54k Total weekly wage bill = £324k For a year: Total annual wage bill = £324k per week x 52 weeks = £16,848,000 - Not including bonuses Our playing staff wage bill 23/24 was an eye watering £34 Million (approx & bonuses included) Of course its never going to work out exactly like that, use it as a rule of thumb though. But I think its sensible to assume that if your big 6 wages are being locked up by guys like Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo, well then don't sign anymore players in that wage bracket? That's your 25 players. For European registration, you need 4 club-trained players (King, McCausland, Kelly, Rice) and 4 home-grown players (Barron, Soutter, Cameron for next season, and one more - Nsiala might count if he gets his 2 years before he turns 21, unless its 3 years for nation trained). This will allow us to use the full allocation. I really don't think its that difficult if you have a structure and you follow it, and if the recruitment team can continue finding guys like Barron, Cameron, Igamane, Jefte and get the backing they need, it should be achievable to build a squad capable of challenging for the title. -

I'm not sure giving Baily Rice 45 minutes against QP in a cup defeat at Ibrox is the same as throwing Curtis and Rice into the mix at old Trafford. I do get your point overall. -

Same reason we paid Goldson 38k a week over 4 years then decide to take a hit 2 years into his contract to get him off the wage bill. Same reason we agreed a contract with Hagi then decided to freeze him out because we had changed our mind about how much we wanted to pay him. -

I agree with your argument to a degree. people want Clement gone but whoever replaces him will be a lower tier guy earning a fraction of the wage. Knudsen has stuck around at Bodo as he gets a big % of any transfers fees brought in I believe. He is more that the manager there. -

Couldn't afford his wages, or the job he did at Celtic was supported by 40 odd million on transfers. I doubt we will have £4 million to spend in the summer barring a lottery win. -

It might not be McInnes, but it will be someone in that pay range. A Jimmy Theilin type from Scandinavia or similar. -

The answer to that is simple, but no one wants to admit it. They quite frankly have no idea where to go from here. -

He left because of how the Parks were running things. They are still here. I personally don't want him, no. -

I highly doubt any of that matters. Players and agents come for money. That's it. -

We are downsizing the squad and we will downsize the manager too. Don't get me wrong he deserves to go but a guy of his profile is expensive. This is a perfect opportunity to go get a McInnes or someone else that will accept a fraction of big Phils wage. -
Real Madrid are just magical in the champions cup/Champions League. Unstoppable. Didn't think City were bad at all last night but Real just pull things out the hat.

Both are good championship level players, its no surprise to see them doing well in League 1. The issue with them up here is they are not aggressive or physical enough for Scottish football. Both build like the side of a fiver with the aggression and desire of a sleeping koala. This has been, and still is a major failing in our recruitment since Gerrard left.

I see Villa have announced the signing of a young Turkish player, and Inter Milan will sign Zagreb and young Croatian star, with him undergoing a medical yesterday. I long for us to be this organised. Given our situation, we should be proactively setting up deals for players right now. We've managed to secure Cameron on a Bosman, but we could also be negotiating fees and other terms in advance. At the moment, our club seems disorganised, with no clear sense of who is coming or going. This lack of structure is incredibly frustrating. It's quite ironic, isn't it? The clubs motto is "ready" but the reality seems far from it. We seem like an unprepared mess scrambling from problem to problem.
