No one wants us to go back to the days of spending more than we have. But the reality of where we are v where our biggest rivals are financially means they can spend much more on players than us. And in turn have a much better chance of winning things than we do. This will be the case for some time if they continue to get far higher European revenue than us. This season has been a massive own goal for us in that regard. 55 was the big one but it was supposed to be a foundation for us to build on. Not a millstone around our neck.
-
We were told many times that player trading was going to be a big revenue stream for us but have failed to maximise the ROI on some of our biggest assets in years. Yes I'm aware the impact COVID has had not just on us but football world wide. But i stand by this.
-
I hope so but it depends on revenue streams which in the past have not been enough to break even and we have relied on directors to cover the shortfall.
-
That's fine if its accompanied with some transparency and expectation setting. Ross Wilsons comments at the AGM about us not having to sell players as we are comfortable financially is not quite how it played out in January.
-
Will the board give the manager the money to spend? We took in circa 15 million for Gerrard&Co and Patterson. Manager got some loans.
-
I think that's a bit optimistic John. We will lose McGregor, Goldson, Davis, Arfield out of contract in the summer. We need a top keeper to replace McGregor IMO. Kent, Morelos, Aribo, Helander all have one year remaining and should be renewed or sold. In Helanders case he cant stay fit so would prefer to move him on. Worst case scenario is we fail to move Kent, Morelos and Aribo and lose them for nothing. Lowry is in his last year and needs to be renewed or promoting him to first team duties and developing him for his next club wont do us much good. Agree RE Leon King. Now at the point we either need to play him and give him games or try to get some money for his potential. Katic is an interesting one. By all accounts his performances have been improving so i wouldn't be adverse in having him back. At the same time if we get a decent bid for him it may be best for both parties to move on. Real question marks over the quality of Itten and Sakala. If we can move them on and reinvest we should. Roofe cant stay fit so we should move him on and reinvest if we can. He takes too big a wage to spend that much time in the treatment room. Kamara was a big asset for us under Gerrard but now looks a shadow of the player and how much would we get for him? I think these questions were as valid in December when we were top as they are now.
-
Agree but given the major rebuild we have ahead of us its a massive ask.
-
Thats where the big bucks are for us if we can get young guys into the team playing well in europe and the national team we will get money. However i fear with 1 year left Lowry is already looking at options elsewhere and who can blame him.
-
We will be lucky to get our money back on Kent, dont think we will get much over 10 million for Morelos and Aribo each given contract situations. Dont think they board will give the manager much of it to spend either. Next season will be a team of bosmans and loans.

I realise this wont be popular opinion but I'm going to put it out there. Given he was virtually anonymous on Sunday I don't think it was a good decision from Ryan Jack to go to Austria and play over an hour in a friendly for Scotland. Especially when he struggles to play 1 out of two games in a week for us. He is big for us when he plays normally. -
Need to look at selling Helander, Morelos and Lowry if we cant get them to extend. I personally wouldn't extend Helander given his fitness issues. I'd also move on Roofe if we get a decent offer.

He is basically Sebo. Just runs about and leads the press. Has nothing to offer in possession. -

Its looking that way. We have a massive summer rebuild with no money to spend. Who will take the job? You are looking at Warnock or Callum Davidson. No one of any means will take that on. -
Its between Lundstram and Bassey for me but they both played a big part in conceding a goal. Bassey also struggled to do anything going forward and a few times resorted to just scooping the ball into their box.

Not really got much to say about that. This team tends to do one of 2 things: 1) start well, score a goal then fall asleep 2) start terribly then have to claw their way back into the game I saw a stat yesterday on Sky that we have come from behind to win 21 games this season. That is not a good stat. The wins are good yes. But it is a huge indicator of the attitude of the squad. -
If Covid had not hit and cancelled the season it is debateable if he would have made it out of that season as Rangers manager such was the size of the collapse.
-
Its plainly obvious we are skint. After taking in a small fortune in the winter window and spending none of it, instead choosing to bring in 2 youngsters and a big risk in Ramsey. While the team across the city actively tried to postpone games so they could back their manager. I have no confidence in this board/club leadership in what is going to be a massive transfer window for us. We have let key assets run down their contracts and depreciate in value massively while not investing in other areas. We have spent big on players that have not contributed much this season (Roofe, Itten, Helander). We have some real quality and experience in McGregor and Davis who have tried to go one season too far by the looks of it. Our team yesterday cost about 12 million to put together. Kent and Roofe were 11 of that.

Pics of Morelos in crutches doing the rounds on socials/whattsapp. Not looking good. -
Thankful its cancelled. But this has still caused damage re timing of announcement and leaves questions over the payment side of things (I'm reading into that statement)

Highly doubtful Balogun will play Sunday then. He has struggled to play twice weekly for us

I may have posted this earlier in the thread, but given the strict restrictions in Australia I hope the club has had assurances any travelling employees/supporters have been guaranteed safe exit passage in the case of any covid escalation. -

They have had other commercial link ups over and above the syndey cup as a result of the event. How much this benefits them financially or at all is unknown but its an example of how our board have not thought this through as a concept. Had we still had the likes of Craig Moore, Tony Vidmar or the likes I could have seen how this would have been an opportunity for us to expand in a similar manner. But one club has a high profile player and manager from Australia and one club does not. It doesnt take a genius to figure they may get additional commercial opportunity's. -

This offer definitely wont come without caveats. Things have changed pretty quickly from 'I cant be involved at rangers as its hard to get my money out of South Africa' to 'I'll pay millions to cancel this friendly' pretty quickly. This is just more nonsense we don't need at a crucial part of the season. The club is still financially entirely reliant on Europe. We will have to punt out best players in the summer at reduced fees due to their contract status. The squad needs a massive rebuild. Maybe the focus should be on that.
