I have an issue with it. The reason we have this stupid split and 12 team league, play the same teams again and again is because TV wanted 4 OF games(and pay us peanuts for it) but also because the diddy teams wanted 2 home games v us a season to milk the blue cash cow. Now they have decided they don't want to milk the blue cash cow meanwhile we are stuck with this broken format. Its all rather pointless. I'd hope a 16 team league comes back on the agenda as the top 4 in the championship are pretty similar in quality to the bottom 8 of the SPFL. Perhaps teams would have a bit more freedom to blood in youth players. I seen a stat somewhere that there were little or no young players used in the SPFL last season. Leon King was one of the most used u-20 players in the league with about 10 games.

Mostly, did lose the best part of a season with Derby due to an Achilles issue a few years back but other than that afaik he has been fit.

Just as an aside I think this 'home grown' status rule has led to the big clubs hoovering up all the best young talent. And driven up the price of young players. I don't think its a particularly effective rule and should be binned off.

The irony is we are showing up better in Europe now than we did when we had these guys. We got to a European final with a team that cost about 14 million. Roofe and Kent made up most of that. That would have bought a couple of players under Advocaat. Funny old game.

Brugges have Ronny Diela as manager so will probably be ragdolled by any decent opposition. I'm torn on this thing, I am not sure we have the squad to play in something like this and challenge domestically. if its an additional 6 games for example on top of Europe (if we need to go through qualifiers again) it will stretch us. But on the other hand the money and exposure will be good.

This is true. It was also true of Bassey after his first season. In all honesty he looked very bad. But he got a chance, took it and the rest is history. Im not suggesting it’s guaranteed Ridvan will do the same. Given the fact he can’t stay fit it’s highly unlikely. But we have had Barisics best years and it’s probably time for both parties to move on at the end of the season. I suppose it’s easier to write off a guy approaching the end of his career than it is a guy just starting it out.

One of my favourite players during 55 but regressed really badly. I always think about that lap of honour he did when we beat them 1-0 at Ibrox - did he think he was away? Did something fall through. A very one dimensional player. Granted that one dimension is excellent. But the guy cant run, he cant defend and he isn't the best with the ball at his feet. He will be 31 shortly. We should let him go at the end of the contract, thank him for his services and good luck to him.
