  1. Don't see any price-cuts elsewhere (ie Celtic). Not sure what the deal is with JJB regarding sales based bonus payments, but maybe they're trying to avoid it.
  2. I think Beasley will be useful for us in some games this season, but atm it looks as though Europe is where he'll do the damage. Is it worth keeping him for that alone - bar one or two SPL ties that suit him - not sure tbh. He's definitely worth more than a fiver though. If we get a good offer for him, I wouldn't be too disappointed to see him go.
  3. The thing with Burke is that when he's on form, value for money is exactly what he delivers. There's no doubting that he's been injured too often in his career so far and that when he has been fit and playing there are sides to his game which let him (and us) down, but overall I still think he's one of the best products of our youth system in the past decade. Like Gribz says, he's past the stage of being a promising youngster. Sure, he's young enough to still be able to improve his game but he needs to start delivering now. All the same, whatever reasons we've got for having a problem with Burke (as a player or otherwise ) I have to admit that I've got a really bad gut feeling about letting him go on a free.
  4. Personally, I'd give Burke a chance to win himself some sort of contract extension. He's been doing well in the reserves and if he comes back in and plays to his abilities it can only be good for us. If he doesn't, then he'll be moved on, as seems to be semi-expected atm.
  5. True, but we don't currently have ANY players who would .
  6. Have to agree with you there to some extent. As supposedly one of the best midfielders in the SPL you'd expect him to at least have been in the running for a POTY award since he came back, but he hasn't got as much as a shout. I don't think Ferguson is over-rated as such, but his form over the past few seasons has been inconsistent to say the least. In some ways this can be excused by playing through injury and in others it can't. Let's just hope that now he's injury free, he can get onto a good run of form.
  7. I think Adam has a future at the club, but only if he starts producing the qualities we know he's capable of on a more regular basis. The same could be said for Burke. I agree with the others mentioned though.
  8. If you ask me there's been a much better balance between youth and experience under WS over the past couple of seasons, than at any point with Advocaat. Last time Walter left the job, he left behind an over-the-hill side with only a hand-full of players who had any sort of future at the club. This time round, with the squad he's putting together, I'm confident that won't be repeated.
  9. I agree that Fleck is an outstanding talent, but he is a different style of player to Lafferty. He also has much less experience in that he hasn't played first team football at club level never mind international, like Lafferty & Edu have. That's why that pair cost as much as they did. I think if Fleck had come through the youth ranks at any other club, he would have made that transition already and no doubt would also have a seven figure price tag attached. You've got to remember though that this is Rangers we're talking about. The job comes with a set of pressures and demands that you don't get at other clubs. I think WS is wary of this and understandably doesn't want to rush the players progress too much. I'd expect to see Fleck (when he's fit again) playing in a few of our less demanding games this season. I think it will be at least next season though before he's really pushing for a regular start.
  10. I don't think he's a dud. He's not playing his favored position though and it could be a while before he's given a proper chance to do so. IMO he was brought in as a long term solution and also, like Edu (and Aaron), as a more experienced option for the U-21 places. It's not a waste of money to invest in youth. It can be a gamble, but that's the same for every signing.
  11. That's true Still don't think Mendes deserved to be singled out in the ratings ...and Lafferty and possibly Miller maybe did. We'll just have to agree to dissagree on that one mate
  12. Personally, I'd give Motm to Bougherra as I think he had as good a game as Weir and yes, he was walking a bit of a tight-rope after the booking, but at least he didn't take out any of his own players .
  13. I think you're being a little hard on Mendes there Frankie. His form has definitely dipped over the past 2 or 3 games, but those ratings suggest he was the weakest link last night which I don't think was the case. Lafferty had an absolute nightmare of a gme and you scored him higher. WTF? Also Ferguson was IMO by far the poorer of the two in the middle, which as much as that's to be expected, doesn't merit the sympathy vote. Obviously it's going to take time for Barry to get his sharpness up and for the two of them to develop an understanding. This was easier with Thomson as his and Mendes' styles probably complimented one another better. I think they're both good enough players for that midfield partnership to work, but too often last night, Hughes and Lasley were getting the better of them, which is unacceptable tbh.
  14. Well it's just my opinion. I think we're all a bit too fickle sometimes when it comes to judging players over the course. You don't become a bad player overnight and like I said I don't think the players mentioned were all that bad. Svensson - Struggled to get to grips with the Scottish game. He was captain of Gothenburg and a Swedish International when we signed him. He came highly recommended by everyone who'd seen him play including former Gers. Sionko - Czech Republic International before and after we signed him. IMO one of their best players at the Euros. Should have done well at Rangers, but didn't. Sebo - Slovakian International. Good entertainment value at least :fish:. Clement - Signed from Lyon (who didn't want to lose him) and impressed both the fans and the media when he wasn't injured. Letizi - Experienced French keeper, although, so was Barthez ...OK, I'll give you that one
  15. I don't think PLG's signings were all that bad. Certainly not as bad as the press made them out to be in the end. I think LeGuen and his staff just ...struggled and as a result the players they brought in did likewise. Svensson wasn't a 'disaster'. He was just prone to the odd f**k up, although no more than the likes of big Amo at the beginning of the Advocaat era. I still think Sionko was a good player, but his poor fitness and attitude really let him down. Clement was a decent signing, but he was always going to follow PLG out the door. Sebo wasn't worth the money we paid, but I can think of a few strikers we've spent more on over the years and got less in return. Letizi wasn't a poor keeper either. We just all wanted to see McGregor given a chance. I think it's true that Papac was a panic buy though, but only because the players PLG was trying to offload didn't 'leave' until the last day. I don't even think he'd looked at Papac before signing him tbh. He might have been the least 'spectacular' of the signings, but Sasa's kept his head down, worked his way into the team and stayed there. He's done really well, especially since Walter took over and he deserves his new contract.
  16. It's a shame he didn't arrive at Rangers a few years earlier. At this point in his career, he really needed to impress this season to have a chance of extending his stay. He hasn't though and as much as he's a decent squad player, even on this sort of form, he's probably on a good wage. I think if Marseille come in for him, he'd be mad to turn them down.
  17. It's very difficult to get a hold of the 'perfect winger' these days. We've got plenty of options atm and Beasley and Burke are the closest we've got to a natural winger. They're both a little lightweight for some games in the SPL, but it's their injury troubles which are more of a concern. Novo's done quite well on the wing over the past few years, but he's a striker. Davis has done a good job out wide this season, but like Adam he's better suited to CM. Lafferty and McCulloch offer an aerial advantage in the wider areas, but I really don't like to see us playing that way to be honest. That leaves us with Naismith (another striker) and Aaron - If he ever gets a game.
  18. Yes, he was playing very well, right up until he got injured in the cup game along with Naismith IIRC. Over the festive period he scored a couple and had a well above average amount of assists. It's a real that shame Burke's been so injury prone as he's one of our most skillful players. Going by the amount of time he's been back playing in the reserves (playing quite well from what I've heard) and not getting a look in, it appears his days could be numbered at Ibrox.
  19. I still think McGregor is the better keeper. We're lucky to have as good a back-up keeper as Alexander, but imo McGregor should be given a fair chance to redeem himself. Our defence has picked itself so far this season and yet they've all had their share of mistakes leading to goals. I don't hear fans calling for changes on that front, so why the keeper? If you ask me, it seems like McGregors off-the-field exploits have damaged his relationship with the support more than his form.
  20. Broadfoot's done more than enough to deserve new terms. However, I still don't think he's good enough to be 'brought into line with other top-earners'. Hopefully he'll accept less money from us than what Eck's offering ...that's if there's any truth in the story. As for Lovenkrands, he's available on a free IIRC, so I'd like to see us get shot of Mcculloch to free up the wages and squad place to bring him back. He might not be as 'versatile' as big Lee but he would certainly be a lot more useful.
  21. I'm all for it. So many of the players called up to the National squad in recent years have spent half their lives down in England. Now thanks to the 'grandparent' rule we've had players brought into the Scotland squad who have barely set foot in the country before. I think Novo, having spent 8 years playing in Scotland, certainly qualifies and I for one would be delighted to see him represent our country. He's more than capable and has bags of experience compared to most call-ups. No doubt GB would prefer to have traitors like McGeady playing for him though .
  22. Calling the game off is what I'd call 'kicking up a fuss'. Give him a minutes silence / applause - It's more than most folk get.
  23. The crowd that turned out for the UEFA cup game probably reminded them what it was like to have some sort of atmosphere at Fir Park. All the same, well done Motherwell. Let's hope others follow suit
  24. I've got no time for Dundee United or their supporters. After their little crusade last season, when Levein, Thomson et all did their best to spoil the build up to our UEFA cup final, they can GTF as far as I'm concerned. As long as their preparation for the game isn't too badly effected, I see no reason to call it off. Even then, if the roles were reversed there's a fair chance Rangers would be told to get on with it. We can't afford unnecessary postponements causing us another fixture pile-up and imo that's all this is. Sorry to sound disrespectful, but it's just the way I feel about this.
  25. Would be good to have heard more from the management though. Walter especially knows what it's like to be branded a traitor for putting Rangers ahead of his country. He said only a couple of weeks ago that Boyd's played in around 75% of the games since he took over and as much as he might not like repeating himself, I'd like to see him at least point that out in response to the p!$h GB was spouting about Boyd not getting a game.
