I wouldn't necessarily agree with you there. After all, McCoist hasn't taken charge in an OF game yet. It's a tough call whether we should play a 4-5-1 or not. As far as the OF game results have gone this season, it looks (at least on paper) to be a safer bet. I can't help but feel though that the team would be more likely to get the win with another (better) player given the nod ahead of McCulloch who, let's face it, is going to be starting in a 4-5-1. That's unless we do the unthinkable and play to the strengths of the 4-5-1 system with Davis, Mendes, and Ferguson in the middle and two from Fleck, Novo, Naismith, Aaron and Beasley out wide.

I think the quote about him having 'only played 90 minutes for the first team twice in the previous three months' is a bit misleading as he'd featured in a good number of games. It's just that the management appear to share the opinion of many on here as far as Novo is concerned - good impact player to bring on from the bench. Hope he get's at least that much on Sunday.

Well, if there's one man at Ibrox on a high salary who's easily replaced, he's got to be the prime candidate. If you ask me his performance in transfer negotiations alone is worthy of the sack, not to mention the incident with McKay in January, who should be given as wide a berth as possible all things considered. Then there's the scandal he caused by involving personal property sales in a transfer negotiation. In fact, the only visible good he's done is in a couple of outgoing transfers, where it could be argued any sales monkey could have brought in a bigger fee anyway. He might be a yes man, but that's no excuse for incompetence.

Before yesterday, Hamilton hadn't conceded at home since mid-November. That's 5 clean sheets. Taking that into consideration, it wasn't such a bad idea to bring on a more defensive player like Whittaker. Tbh, I think Whittaker is as much of a goal threat as Lafferty anyway.

I think you'll find that McFadden goal in Paris came under Eck's time as Scotland manager. Walter took a complete shambles of a Scotland side and quickly got them organised into a team which were hard to beat and achieving results. In our World Cup Qualifying group we finished 3rd after Walters 7 games in charge: Italy 2-0 Scotland Scotland 2-0 Moldova Belarus 0-0 Scotland Scotland 1-1 Italy Norway 1-2 Scotland Scotland 0-1 Belarus Slovenia 0-3 Scotland At the time he left the Scotland post they were top of the qualifying group, ahead of world champions Italy and World Cup runners-up France following a run of three wins in four games: Scotland 6-0 Faroe Islands Lithuania 1-2 Scotland Scotland 1-0 France Ukraine 2-0 Scotland To suggest that Walter didn't turn things around for Scotland post Berti Vogts is just as ridiculous as saying he didn't do likewise for the mess that PLG left Rangers in.

I've come to the conclusion that no matter who the manager is and how successful he is, there will always be a faction of the support who disagree with his decisions. That's just football. While we all want silly money spent in transfer season, we complain when that's what we get. WS & DM are talking about cutting the squad size down to 20 seasoned pro's supported by the youth. If they cut it down to 11 there would no doubt still be complaints about team selection. When Walter was brought in, the main objective was to 'challenge' for the title and so far we've done just that. Let's cut him some slack AT LEAST until the end of the season.

If we want to play mind games why not take a leaf out of AF's book. He might come across as a bit of a tw@t, but at at least he manages to wind up the opposition and give us all a laugh in the process.

No worries mate. It's just that I find this to be one of the few habits of not just WS but the Ibrox regime in general over the past few years that really riles me. Reason being that unlike other circumstances it's completely avoidable. We don't want to hear excuses and they surely won't fall for such obvious mind games, so WHY?

Setting the Standard: Rangers FC and the Internet

Totally agree and it would have been the same no matter the outcome of the match. There's no denying that we the support were set up for a fall there. It's a conspiracy, there I said it and there's nothing the club can do about it as the 'paranoia' card is laying in wait. A taste of their own medicine is what they need.- 20 replies

Whittaker should be playing right back, but Broadfoot's kept him out the team. IMO he's a very talented player and doesn't deserve the abuse he's been receiving as like any player he needs a run of games to find his form. As for Novo - I don't see what he's done to be in the bad books. Before Fleck was given his chance, Novo was our best performer on the left and just as WS gives him a shot up front, he get's injured. Tough luck, that's all.

To be fair, Lafferty had probably played more 1st team games in THAT position than in any other, while Fleck has been our next 'greatest hope' for the past few weeks. As for McCulloch, I've got no excuse, but you have to admit he's done as good a job (if not better) playing central defence and holding mid, as he did in his 'natural position' - whatever that is :fish:

Even Spiers is at it in his latest pile of spew - Old Firm managers fight it out in sack race When the likes of him are sticking up for you, you should know something is amiss.- 20 replies

Setting the Standard: Rangers FC and the Internet

Well I for one am convinced. The point is that unlike us, they can't say it in so many words, but for anyone who would like to pay attention once in a while, it's patently clear that the everyone isn't who they say they are on the internet and for every devoted Rangers fan, you've got sh!t stirring 'h^n' hating vermin gnawing away at our foundations. The internet is prime territory for guerrilla warfare and you'd better wake up and realise that's what we're up against - that's what I believe they mean when they refer to the faceless minority.- 20 replies

I can understand that point of view, but at the same time, none of us want to hear it. Is it because we're in denial? No!! It's because they shouldn't be getting any credit from us. We're better than them and as much as the underdogs tag might be acceptable in Europe it sure as f*** isn't in the SPL!! PLG was just as bad as Walter with his 'Celtic are the benchmark' pi$h. He wasn't the 1st either. Eck was at it as well. As much as I get that it's all mind games (whether it's on the rivals or home support) but it's football not poker ffs. I wish they'd just come out with something like 'We're not interested in them, we're only interested in the title'. Walter goes on about 'winning mentality' ...well there it is.

If I could make a couple of changes. 1 - As much as I rate Mendes, I wouldn't pick him ahead of Gerrard. 2 - I wouldn't let Rooney near my team.
-
It's got to be a penalty. Otherwise your just giving defenders a license to get away with murder in those situations.
-
I like the look of that one. Think you might have gone a wee bit over budget there though.
-
He couldn't have done a better job of that if he tried  Even Broadfoot looked like he shit himself :fish:
-
I don't think it will come to that. As much as it's possible, I think points deduction would be a last resort in a long line of punishments which could be handed out. If the club had been on the defensive or indeed offensive (depending on what way you look at it) over the vilification of the Rangers support then we could really be in trouble. However, as much as we despise the fact that the club hasn't stood by us over these issues, their stance of being 'pro-active' in 'dealing' with the sectarian element will prove to be their saving grace. I can't see the club being dealt with any more than a fine.
-
He did a good job for us during his loan spell and I have to admit that I was disappointed when we didn't manage to keep him on. However, I don't think he would offer much more than what we've currently got on the left and looking at his career since leaving - 52 appearances in 3 and a half seasons, including 2 loan spells (he isn't even good enough to be a 1st team regular for a Ligue 2 side) - I can't see any reason why we'd want him back. Like he says, he shouldn't have left.
-
Both Broadfoot and Whittaker are much better players than Neilson and have plenty of time to improve. Neilson isn't good enough for Rangers now and never will be.
-
The trouble is that if he WAS playing the best 11, he would probably NEED to play 5 in midfield because that's where we're strongest. I think if we were to try and decide our best 11 between us all, opinion would be divided to say the least. We've got some good options in the squad ATM, but some players are better suited to specific games than others. Therefore I'd say in his defence that it's impossible for him to pick a starting 11 that gets a unanimous vote of approval, as a significant amount of supporters will always disagree with his choice.

What do you exactly all expect him to do?. Why not have a go at someone who you would expect to be in a position to stand up for us like all the former Gers currently working in the media?
