I don't really get your point . Much like the playing and coaching staff (and UNLIKE the owner), if his performance is poor and the support let their feelings be known, then sooner or later he'll be replaced.
-
Maybe he's too depressed to clap. If there's any truth to half the rumours that have surrounded the club this summer it's understandable.

It'll be interesting to hear what Gordon Smith has to say about that It's got to be worth at least a 3-match suspension.

David Murray - The Definitive Guide to a Living Legend
UCF2008 replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
I see what you're saying and I'm no financial whiz by any means, but when you look at the data for the past 5 years it doesn't seem very healthy. RFC shareprice I would guess that a majority of businesses with that kind of performance over a 5-year period would be looking to make changes at the top. -
I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank David Murray for all the good times. Now if he can just do us all one last favour when he does sell and take Martin Bain with him

From Pot 1 I'd go for Milan Wouldn't mind getting Marseille from Pot 3. As for pot 4, I think I'll go for Wolfsburg Always prefer us to be the underdogs in CL so from that perspective Italians, French and Germans will do nicely

That's got to be quote of the year It seems to me from all the reverse psychology in yet another round of mhedia speculation over the little pie muncher that they're more worried about him staying than going.

The Webster situation is a strange one as he could be the ideal successor to Weir. Obviously he's had a lot of injury problems and as we've seen with Stevie Smith and then Naismith last season that can make it difficult for the player to get into the team. It's possible he's been sent out on loan to get some 1st team football and build up his match fitness and if all goes well he'll be back with us next year. On the other hand, it could be that with our current financial situation and our need to reduce the wage bill, he was one of the only fringe players anyone was interested in. Also, I'm sure I read that United have an option to make the loan deal permanent

When Giggs, Beckham, Neville etc. broke into the Man Utd side they were surrounded by experienced players like Robson, Pallister, Schmeichel, Bruce, Irwin, Cantona & Hughes. I'm all for us giving Fleck and our other youth prospects an extended run in the side, but like I said we need to maintain that balance between youth and experience. With Saturday's squad, had we used all three substitutes, we could possibly have been playing with an average age as low as 22 and our most 'mature' player being McGregor That's all fine and well as long as we're winning, but when the results don't go our way it would be WS who'd get the blame for relying too heavily on our youth.
-
Bringing young players into the team is always a bit of a balancing act. You have to get the right blend between youth and experience or else you risk struggling for consistency - a situation which is unacceptable for Rangers. The average age for the team on Saturday was 26. IMO that's just about right as any less than 25/26 is asking for trouble. Even taking the youngest & oldest (Fleck & Weir) out of the picture the average still works out at roughly the same - 25.77 compared to 26.18. mcgregor - 27 whittaker - 25 bougherra - 26 weir - 39 smith - 23 naismith - 22 mcculloch - 31 davis - 24 fleck - 17 boyd - 25 miller - 29 When you consider that 7 of those who started in the Falkirk game were 26 or younger, It seems that our recent policy of signing younger players does work against us in this respect as it limits the opportunities for our homegrown youngsters. The benefit however is that we've currently got a good number of reasonably experienced players in the squad who (assuming we can keep them under contract) can form the core of our squad for at least the next 5-6 years.
-
Would be a good time to bring on Thomson I guess
-
...Basically the same team selection can operate as a 4-5-1 if the need arises, but we're at home to Falkirk, so I don't think a 4-5-1 would go down too well with the support.
-
True, but between Whittaker, Smith, Miller and Naismith I would have though we'd have enough cover on the wings, leaving the 3 midfielders to play a more central role.
-
With the players who've left this summer, we've brought in close to £2m and slashed the wage bill by £80-100 grand a week (conservative estimate). This combined with the CL money should surely be enough to satisfy the bank manager.
-
Whittaker---Bougherra---Weir------Smith Davis------McCulloch-------Fleck Miller--------Boyd-------Naismith AFAIK he's just not ready for a full 90mins yet. Although with Mendes out he might be given more of the game than was expected.

Am I the only one who thought Alexander should have done better at their 2nd goal? As above, but made up for it with a great defensive block later in the game. 5 is maybe a little harsh. What? Was he really that good? I admit it was probably one of his better games. Our best player on the night. Looks different class when playing a more central role. I might not have seen anything in particular to criticise McCulloch over, but I could swear Mendes was more involved in the game. Have to agree with this one. If Boyd had been in his place (supported by Novo and Naismith) for the first 60 minutes he'd probably have scored a hat-trick. Now I'm starting to think they didn't even watch the game.
-
With Whitaker away, I wonder who'll cover at RB for the Portsmouth game. Will WS give youth a chance, play Stevie Smith or give Big Lee a shot?
-
Good game to watch. We were maybe a little fortunate to get the win when a draw would have been a fairer result. Our second goal in particular was different class and makes me think that Davis needs to play in the middle from now on. Whether that's in a midfield 3 or 5 probably depends on the opposition.
-
Just like any other area of the pitch, the best player we have available should start. I won't be 'disappointed' with whoever WS picks between the two of them, but I still think McGregor is the better keeper.
-
I don't think he was naive at all and has no reason to feel embarrassed by the incident. He's a footballer from a foreign country and shouldn't need to be educated in these things. If one of our players went to play in the states, should they need to be informed about all the slogans or leaders (past and present) of unsavoury political, religious or terrorist groups, just in case they are conned by some redneck into saying the wrong thing? It only shows them up for what they are and to be honest I think it would be a good idea for our other players to follow Edu's lead.

After Kaunas and the Scottish Cup final last season, I hope Walter's idea for McCulloch doesn't involve a midfield role. He did not too badly playing the holding role on a couple of occasions last season, but even then, aside from the Milan friendly were talking about SPL opposition where a holding midfielder shouldn't have been necessary. Hopefully Walter's idea for Lee (other than bench warmer) is to look after his pal Barry's jersey until a suitable successor can be found.

You might be right, but then in my opinion the 'ability' to win Rangers POTY is what separates McGregor & Alexander. If Alexander played to the best of his ability for a whole season, it would be acknowledged that he had a good season, but much like Kirk Broadfoot (for instance ) he won't be winning any POTY awards. He's a decent player, but not 'that' good. McGregor on top form is another story, especially when we're playing in Europe against a higher standard of opposition and an outstanding performance from the keeper is always appreciated.
-
Couldn't agree more. I'm hoping he'll at least get a chance in the Champions League home games.
-
To be honest I wouldn't think there are as many as 10 candidates. It's got to be one of the following:- McGregor, Weir, Bougherra, Papac, Whittaker, Thomson, Mendes, Davis, Boyd & Lafferty. Outwith those 10, you've got players that will play their part, but I'd be surprised if any of them did enough to win POTY. Bougherra gets my vote

He only really had the 2nd half of the season after coming back from his injury an his opportunities were limited to sub appearances.
