  1. Zappa , re the figure for Bartlay then its as good as it can be mate , however since every other transfer has went south I dont hold out much hope ,in fact till I see them in Murray Park with the strip with their names on I aint believing anything . We have the basis of a good squad , I believe it's imperative to keep Whittaker , others disagree , but if they dont suppliment the squad soon and injuries kick in as they always do preseason , C/L qualifiers will become 100 times tougher .it's the £17 million pound gamble and we all know how the last one ended
  2. Rangers director of football Gordon Smith can't agree with players who would choose the npower Championship over the opportunity to play in the Champions League. Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns agreed a move to Leicester despite interest from the Scottish champions, while another target, Craig Conway, opted for Cardiff. Reports suggest Conway's former Dundee United team-mate David Goodwillie could also make the move to the Bluebirds, with Rangers yet to make a formal bid for the Tannadice striker. However, former agent Smith insists players who choose finances over football are no great loss to Rangers. He said: "I believe it shouldn't always be about money. My own opinion is that players should be making decisions which are football decisions, rather than financial. "I tried to do that myself when I was an agent, I tried to say to the player to make the right football decision. "If I was a player coming through, would I go to a club playing in the Champions League or go to a club that's playing in the Championship? I know where I would want to go. "It's a shame because you lose players who don't quite see it that way. But we move on. "If a player decides not to come to us, we have to take the attitude that maybe it's not such a bad thing. "He's maybe not got the right attitude that we want because what we really want is people who see us as the place to come to." Smith added: "It is a different world these days. "We have budgets here, we have a certain amount of income and we have to be sensible spending the money. I think the fans realise that nowadays. "I'm very aware of salary levels at Premiership level, but the Championship level salaries have also rocketed. "There are clubs coming down from the Premiership into the Championship and they are keeping the wage scales going. "Clubs are getting new owners and deciding to compete to try to get into the Premiership because they know there is big money. So that's the market." New Rangers boss Ally McCoist has yet to make his first signing but Smith urged fans to be patient. He said: "I would tell them not to be frustrated. It is early on. "I've got a lot of experience of the transfer business and it's usually midnight on August 31 when a lot of the deals get done. "We're trying to do it in June now and we're trying to get up and running because there are games coming up. "We have a good set of players just now, it's not as though we are short of a team. But we are looking to strengthen the squad and that's what we are working on just now. "I would say to the fans not to be too worried or frustrated. We are working on it, we've got targets and ultimately we will be bringing players in." He added: "The squad definitely does need to be strengthened. Not in terms of right away because we've got a good team. "But we are going to try to strengthen the squad in terms of bringing in quality. Ally and I agree that we need competition for places. The other aspect is injuries and suspensions. "It's important that we get some players in. We are probably looking at at least three or four players to come in."
  3. They have offered for him , about £1.5 million , Wenger wants to see him back in training before making a decision , to be honest I dont think we wiill get many players in just now , the madness of the EPL hasn,t fully kicked in and wait and see the last 2 weeks EPL teams will be desperate to get some players out on loan/transferred due to the 25 player rule . I am not disappointed by losing any targets as yet , if players want to put money over glory they are the wrong type of player for us , we need players who will stick together and fight for each other , sure if a really life changing offer comes in fair enough but to choose the Championship for a few thousand a week is in my view pathetic , and I still stick by my arguement earlier with Bears on twitter the money we pay for reaching the C/L and the win bonuses would more than have made up any shortfall in weekly wages , also I guarentee any player coming to us would pick up very very healthy win bonuses and a damn sight more regularily than in Spain or in the Championship . ps I posted a very relevant link on Championship wages in the footie chat section well worth a read , the gravy train is slowing down and may soon dissappear
  4. Because Wenger wont give them a decision till next month , they want to buy Bartley , and he has stated he would be delighted to come if Arsenal dont want him

  6. And there in lies all the problems we have encountered over the last few seasons with top players , not getting their deals sorted early enough , even 3 years is some thing I would advocate , but this new board will make mistakes and will take time to settle in , hopefully now that Gordon smith is D of F we will see improvements
  7. There is absolutely no point in arguing the toss over the same thing , you either pay a player , any player , the going rate or else let them run their contract down at the agreed contractual wage , problem being they start becoming restless form dips etc etc . problem 2 is that you sell the player for reduced money , sign replacement , having to pay signing on fee , player takes time to settle , eventually does well , hopefully , then start wanting more money because he is a success and other clubs start sniffing round , and then you start again and again . What I am saying is that if a player wants to stay and there is not a great deal of difference money wise in the total package the it makes sense to keep them , the figures getting thrown around just now are no where near the mark , trust me on this , but you also have to accept we are not a "BIG" club anymore though we may like to think we are . It will takes a couple of years to repair the scouting/get a scouting network in place , we have to be realistic , and accept we are planning for one season at a time , it will be a good few years before we get this current mess by Murray sorted out .
  8. Just like they can always throw their dummies oot the pram and cause trouble , unhappy players always cause trouble
  9. They are asking for more than what Whittaker is wanting though , also you cant keep nmoving players on every season , and also keep winning at the same time
  10. I am not saying we should be looking at the Championship , I am saying that they can get more money in the championship , as for the Celtic players , I think you will find they are all in looking for better contracts or they are offski , including Kayal , foreign players have no loyalty , they simply down tools , and what you are left with is constantly rebuilding squad after squad year after year . Just as an extra , the £20 grand a week was not a net £20 grand , there were bonuses and various other things built into it , we are far too quick to grasp headline figures in papers and run with them
  11. Considering they pay higher wages in the championship , where exactly will we get better players on less money , unless you want a stream of constant changes every season .
  12. It's amazing that with a team of pish , dire players we constantly do well , I can go back to before the NIAR teamand the same arguements were being trotted out about players back then . Lets face it we play football completely the wrong way , its all about rush rush rush , we are never happy as a support and when players who we cant wait to get rid of , actually make it elsewhere , we start bleating about them . For example last year at various times , Whittaker was pish , Weir was past it , Bougherra should be sold , Papac wasn,t worth a new contract , Davis was crap , Jig should never wear a Rangers shirt again , Weiss was a waste of space , Lafferty was all of the above , Naismith would never fulfill his potential , blah blah blah blah CHAMPIONS
  13. Yet again some are far far far too quick to write of a young player , like every young player he is inconsistent but he has shown that with the right players around him he is very effective . But patience and Rangers fans dont go hand in hand
  14. Well done to all involved , would love to see Roseanna Cunningham's coupon when she reads that .
  15. Where was that from Gazza
  16. Frankie , I thought some of the main players were avbsolutely dreadful at the justice meeting and Roseanna Cunningham was like a fish out of water , even the police on show were very unsure about what it would bring , to say that at the end of the day it will still be at the sole responsibility of plod at the scene is shocking

  18. He will disappear to the african's nations cup , better rid of him now , he will be 100% on that we will be a distant second
  19. But surely to avoid a FIFA type corruption scandal you will excuse yourself from the draw ......Frankie Blatter esq
  20. Definetly , rumour has it , Frankie is paying for an all expenses weekend for 2 at the Fairmount in St Andrews with a round of golf included , what a guy .
  21. Done , but had to laugh at a couple of them , Lennon should just have been pre-entered to save typing
  22. It's worthy to note that the "journalist " who broke this also had us spending £2.5 million on Cuellar last week
  23. Big Mcleish has resigned from Birmingham and is expected to take over at the Villa , cant see Cuellar coming now to be honest , but who knows he may just may take the offer to get his own players in.
  24. sorry , but that is shocking , the sooner the fans are involved in these decisions the better
  25. Stick with it , especially up to about 1min 15 on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW1FdQ9ZzAQ
