  1. I remember him as a footballer only really in the Hearts team that blew the double in '86, but even then in my early days of going to Ibrox the stories from my elders and betters were all about this magnificent player and servant to the club. He wasn't even a Rangers fan (Jambo) but knew everything that it meant to be a Ranger, for the fans, and as an ambassador. It was Sandy who was mainly responsible for maintaining the memorabilia within Ibrox stadium. Any bear who has been in the Members club lounge and along the corridors around the Blue Room will see all the pictures of Rangers legends that adorn the walls, and the many caps and other items on display. When asked many times about a museum, Sandy often replied that the whole stadium was a museum for Rangers fans. He really stepped up to the plate when the club fell into administration, and was pivotal in arranging the RFFF, and backed the many fundraising events that took place, including the walk round the pitch in May 2012. He was basically the fans spokesman for those awful months when we had no leadership at the club, and although no accountant or lawyer, Sandy done as much as his health would allow in trying to get our club back onto a better footing. RIP Sandy Jardine, Rangers legend.
  2. A minute's silence before the start of the match, and perhaps a video tribute before the game and at half time should be enough to honour Sandy in the time-honoured football way of things. There are bigger issues at stake here, the future of the club, and Sandy Jardine himself would have been the first to say that no man is bigger than the club, even in the terrible event of one of our greatest ever players and Barca Bear, passing on after such a long and brave fight against cancer. Are we going to cancel the celebration at the end of the match and the trophy presentation? I dont think so, so it is not any different for the fans to honour Sandy, and also to try to convince undecided fans what they believe they should do with their season tickets renewals. Both can be done with the proper respect and dignity IMO. If we had another home game after this one, I would agree that the proposed action be delayed, but we dont.
  3. I think thats the wrong move. If the card display was about the removal of the board, it has to take priority over the mourning of our legend Sandy's passing. If it was just a celebration card display then fair enough. The leaflet drop should go ahead though, because there is no other match to do it at this season. Hopefully however, the leaflet is much better worded than the disappointment handed out on Tuesday.
  4. I still say that the best teams in the world struggle to look good against parked bus teams, and we most certainly are not one of those elite teams, so how we are expected to look good against the same parked bus formations every single game, with teams playing cup final football in one of the few opportunities they will ever have to play "The Rangers" is beyond me. This is not a defence of Ally on its own, as his tactical awareness and use of subs, formations, personnel, make me doubt he has what it takes, but what I most certainly didn't expect this season, or last, was free flowing entertaining open games of footy. And heads up, we won't get it next year either.
  5. The swallow is at the top of Copland road on PRW. It's actually a good shout as a place to get taxis to pick us up, although the flow of traffic on that side of the road is going the wrong way unless the cab joins the M8 and comes off again next junction. The obvious thing to do would be to meet in the swallow after the match (quick liquid refreshment) and book the cabs for 3.15, allowing enough time for most of the traffic to have gone and we would be at the Tapas place for 3.20. May not fall in with BH's regimental timeline though, and if not workable then please disregard.
  6. Off the top of my head, my 120 second review would include the following. A review of all non-playing staff positions and salaries, with major realignment to bring into line with current club and economic conditions. A look at all sponsorship and corporate packages to ensure we both provide real value to our partners and that we are getting full value for our facilities and brand. A review of youth development to ensure we are making the most of our opportunities to attract the best youths in the country, and that we are teaching them the right things. Ensure scouting is in order and that scouts know what type of players we are looking for. SFA & spfl boards. Ensure we have influence in these circles. We have been royally shafted by the axis of evil that is lawwell regan Doncaster thomson Milne and we must start to readdress this ASAP Review our pr and media operations and bring to task those rangers haters in the media that target our club and devalue our brand. Now I reckon I could have the full review done on all these areas and changes implemented within 30 days. Wtf is going on when more than 4 months have passed and we see no tangible proof that anything has changed at all within the club.
  7. I have heard the "update" on Friday is going to be general bullet-type points and very vague, hiding behind the old "AIM rules prevents us from disclosing more". They will triumph the 32RED deal, which isn't any better than the already poor deal we have with Blackthorn, and big-up the membership scheme which will have no power for fans at all.
  8. There should be no rush to renew the ST before the early May deadline. If previous seasons are anything to go by, the ST office shuts for a couple of weeks at the end of the season, then when it reopens it processes the renewals that it has. Only after the renewals are completed can it begin to sell seats that were previously sold but have not renewed. Historically, this meant early June. Therefore anyone wanting to make a statement to the current board that they are unhappy, but dont really believe in King's trust idea, can use the middle ground of waiting until the beginning of June before sending in their renewal. The ticket office will gladly process your renewal for your existing seat. I have not even opened my renewal envelope yet, and I don't intend to for at least another month. I fully expect to get an away allocation (this cant even begin to be done by the ticket office until the fixtures come out in mid-June), and retain my seat. I do not back the current board, and I want to use whatever influence I can to bring them to account. I will be at just about every game next season, as i have done for the last 25-30 years, but I dont want the current board to think I trust them , or back them. If I am being honest, there would have to be something significant to come out about/from the board during the next few weeks for me not to renew, but it will be on my timeline, not theirs. King still has much to do to convince me he has a viable plan of any sort, but he seems to date to be worth a try over the current lot that have had their noses in the trough and don't seem to have much of a clue going forward.
  9. The losses are nothing to do with the playing squad. Our wages ratio of players wages to turnover is the lowest it has ever been. The losses have come from complete mismanagement and, lets be honest here, theft from the (mostly) previous Directors. Spouting off about Ally not being the man to go forward is an entirely different argument completely, (one I wont argue with) and is nothing to do with the fact that Ally is trying to get the most amount of money possible for his playing squad for next season, just like every other manager in football. In this scenario, he has the future well being of our club at the forefront of his mind, IMO.
  10. I think this is just political posturing from McCoist to try to get as much of a playing budget as possible from Wallace. If he comes out and says next season should be a canter (as it should), what argument does he have for getting a transfer budget to improve the squad? He has to try to get Wallace & Co to be aware that he needs to continue to improve his squad every window, as we only have 3 windows left before we have to take on the scum for the title.
  11. I cant agree that the Championship next season will be the most competitive league. I see absolutely no reason why we should not win that division by 20+ points. Hearts are a shambles, and have no money to buy decent players. Their kids are clearly not that good, given that they are by far the worst team in the top flight this season. As for the others, Dumbarton, Cowdenbeath, QotS, Falkirk etc should pose no greater threat than this, or last, season's teams. The difference will be in attitude from our players, who will know they wont get it as easy, and will need to get out of first gear to see off this collection of journeymen pros and part-timers. As far as renewing the ST goes, the season ticket trust is something we just have to give a chance to, especially when the inevitable damp squib review is "updated" at the end of this week. I asked someone close to the ST Trust at the match on Saturday a few questions about it, and while King has to turn up, speak up, and put his cards on the table to convince fans of his commitment, I understand this week will see a lot (not all) of the questions answered regarding the status and tactics behind the ST Trust.
  12. Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?
  13. celtic start in CLQ2, with their first fixtures being 15/16 July, and the reverse fixture a week later. 3rd round starts the following midweek with the second leg a week later. The excellant Bert Kassies site has the facts here:- http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/calendar2014.html
  14. Thanks again for the informative update BH. I am not sure those of us not taking cars to the game will be there for 3. With the game finishing around 2.35, the trophy presentation to follow (always seems to take forever!), and then a good 30 minute walk to the restaurant from the stadium, I would say it would be 3.30 at least before we get started. Also, just to clarify my own position on filming again. I will not participate in any 'on camera' interviews, but have no problem with being "spotted" in sweeping shots or group shots. Too difficult for them otherwise to try to exclude any capture of one individual, especially one my size!
  15. Sinclair is head of Youth Development. Ask Elfideldo for an outline of what he does!!
  16. It seems to me he is taking a leaf out of the book from across the city, where everything has to be talked up no matter how it comes across to the fans of the club. The statements I read from Lennon/Lawwell about how they are so successful and playing great football does not fool any of their regular attendees, however it seems to do the trick in fobbing off external criticism. For celtic to say they have had a successful season when they have won the league they were 1/50 to win, whilst getting an absolute thumping in 5 out of 6 of their CL games, and home defeats in both domestic cups while the quality of play I understand is equally poor and games are generally average at best. I get this from asking friends/colleagues/clients who attend how their team are doing and I generally get a more honest response. Ally seems to be doing the same here. Picking out the headline soundbites for an external audience, and ignoring the fact that the average attendee to our matches knows it is nonsense. Perhaps he is working his ticket also (like Lennon) to get a move away if he is fed up with playing piggy in the middle in the midst of the most uncertain period of our history. He also may be on fair warning from the board to talk everything up to help with renewals. Nothing would surprise me anymore.
  17. I think King was wrong with the timing of the announcement on Friday, and that he would have got a better response if he had waited until Sunday. In saying that, where is this business review we were promised? King is saying that Somers told him the review wont be out until after the ST deadline has passed, and that is therefore changing the goalposts from when King was assured the review would be out before fans had to decide where to put their ST money. From what we know now, there are going to be three camps of ST holders over the next few weeks. In one corner, there will be those that want to secure their preferred seat and dont care who owns us or what the board do. They will renew within the deadline. In the other corner, we will have those who will put their money into King's trust fund, despite King not giving any information regarding what he plans to do with the club. Will he live in Glasgow and run it himself, or appoint the Murrays or others to run it for him while he gets updates in SA? All we know is that he favours a re-capitalisation through a share issue, which he may or may not want to underwrite. And in the middle, will (IMO) be the majority of ST holders, who are waiting to see what happens and are ready to be swayed either way by a compelling argument. They want to renew, they would prefer their current seat, but realise that this board need to provide the transparancy and blueprint for the future of our club that will persuade them, or are waiting to see how successful the early weeks of the Trust Fund is, and perhaps hear more about King's plan for the club. Who is going to run it day-to-day? The new share issue? Both sides should see that there is a large number of ST holders ready to be won over by a positive argument and proof that they have what it takes to move the club forward. Up until now, all we seem to have seen is what they keep getting wrong. Badly worded statements, empty promises, threats and legal actions, Wonga loans, would all give some ST holders the notion that neither camp is deserving of the honour of occupying a position on the Board of Directors of our great institution. Unfortunately, the best of a bad lot is just the same options we have had at the club for the last decade. I want to see this 120 day review come out from the current board and tell us their strategy and plan for improvements in all areas of our club. They have had more than long enough to get their heads around it. I want King to come out and say what he would do if he was allowed to run the club. Who would make all the decisions? What is he going to do about all the under-performing areas of the club? The ST renewals have kicked all this off again, as both sides scramble for fans to back them as the true way forward. Now we as fans have a big decision to make. It would be nice to be able to do it with some manifestos from the two sides, instead of having to take a punt and go with the heart and hope for the best.
  18. In times where tv revenues are going up in most European markets, (England and Champions League making huge increases), our Scottish brand is falling off a cliff with reduced tv income, no title sponsor, reduced gates at most clubs, reduced quality within most squads, and now with two of the biggest clubs outside the top tier. Our European "assault" is usually over before the preliminary rounds are over, and two of our four leagues have been decided before a ball is kicked, with bookies offering 1/50 or thereabouts before a ball is kicked. How any football journalist can try to turn these facts into an article full of praise and glory is quite ridiculous and Jackson should be ashamed of himself. Although as he works for the celtic-controlled Record Sport, he is already beyond shame before he begins.
  19. Right, had another look at the menu, as Spanish food is really not my thing. I am happy enough to try any of the Aves, Carnes, Verduras. I dont like seafood or peppers so count me out of the Pescados and Ensaladas. Never tried Paella as I dont fancy the look of it and I have always only seen it as a seafood dish. However I would be happy to try the Paella de Montana. As long as the beer flows I will be happy!!
  20. At the AGM we were told about the 120 day review, "which had already started", so in essence 120 days from the AGM would take us past the 120 days mark and a report should be published by then at the very latest.
  21. You must have missed their sole league defeat at Pittodrie recently then where Lennon called the ref a cheat, and Lunny apparantly agreed as he has taken no action against him.
  22. Another one for Lunny. A clearer disrepute charge would be difficult to find.
