  1. Thankfully I did!!!!! (I will admit to it being a bit tighter than I hoped!)
  2. Just seen this as I don't go into lounge. I voted for end of season as that worked well last year. I would add some caution for trying to do this too early into the season, as that would need sorting pre-season and I'm sure many are in breaks, both from forums and work etc, and won't be able to have their say. Also worth noting that there will be movement of matches for TV still to be announced. Whatever the date I will try to make it anyway and would encourage anyone who missed the last one to come along. It was great value, good food &drink and a good laugh.
  3. I am still fairly confident that my Brazil to win, and Brazil v Argentina final predictions will come off. While Brazil have not exactly been Brazil-like, under Scolari they are getting the job done, and the backing they get will get them over the line. Will be a real tough game against Columbia, then again against the Germans in the SF but I believe they will win this thing on home soil so somehow they will get through. The Argies are clicking now with Messi getting better every game. They will easily account for the Swiss, then the Belgians/Yanks, and the Dutch in the SF will be tougher but I expect them to reach the final.
  4. I cant believe how badly I have done in this thing! I have actually been doing quite well at the bookies this World Cup and I am well up overall. It's a shame that the bets I put on are not replicated by the score predictions. For example, I strongly felt that the Brazil game was going to go into extra time, so I backed Draw/Draw, 1-1 and 2-2 on my coupon, but I log in this morning to find i picked a 2-1 Brazil win!! I suppose I would rather be getting my bets right than the "just for fun" prediction league!
  5. Simonsen has left as his contract option wasn't taken up or renewed. I'm sure it came out when he was in HK.
  6. Temps is a good shout Frankie, I like him and if he can stay injury free would be a great player to have supplying Boyd/Miller. One thing I did say about Daly last season in the early part of the season he always played the full 90 minutes which I thought was stupid for an "older" guy. Most strikers get subbed if the game is dead (and we were winning easily most weeks in the fist half of the season) to keep them fresh but we didnt do it with Daly, and it showed in the second half of the season when he was completely flat. So with a midfield 4 of Temps Law McLeod Aird that only really leaves a right back to find to have a pretty decent first 11. Who was the young lad that got a couple of games at right back last season then got farmed out on loan. He looked good but I cant remember the name. Can young Gasparatto play RB or is he really a centre?
  7. As much as I was disgusted with the signing of Miller, I am absolutely delighted with the signing of Boyd today. Had he not left he would be closing in on all of McCoist's records by now IMO. The rekindling of the Boyd/Miller strike partnership that worked so well before must now be the basis around how we build our team. Daly/Clark are decent subs if Daly can reproduce his early season form and not replicate his second half of the season form. All we need to work on now is some decent ammunition from midfield. McLeod is the star man in there by a mile, and him and Law could be a good partnership in centre mid. A lot of energy and drive between them when both are fit and in form. Moshni will still be ok for this season, but if there is no improvement this will need to be his last season. Who partners him at CD is anyones guess, but I am guessing we bought McGregor for a reason so he will be getting first shot at it. It must NOT be Jig. We need a right back as Foster is not good enough, while Wallace will again be our star defender. Bell in goals will be fine. So we have; Bell Wallace Moshni Mcgregor BLANK BLANK McLeod Law BLANK Boyd MIller So only 3 positions up for grabs from the rest of the squad and players like Aird who was first pick last season for a wide berth will probably get a good chance to continue his mainly good form. We dont seem to have much depth, although I must admit I am struggling to remember a lot of our squad players who mainly bored me to tears in the last year or two. Perhaps there are one or two I am forgetting!
  8. Call it a hunch, but I'm guessing nobody is getting full points from the SPA v NED match!!
  9. While I agree that all refs can make human errors, the chances of this happening at key points of big games are considerably increased when the ref is used to being in charge of two pub teams in a mickey mouse league in front of a few sheep or politely clapping spectators. You cant really say "the penalty apart" because by its very nature the penalty was the key incident in the game and he got it spectacularly wrong. The second biggest point in the game was probably Naymar's elbow which he got wrong also. 2 big decisions to make during the game, and he got both wrong. We could watch the games over the weekend and some top European refs may make the same blunders, but I would argue it is much less likely due to the experience they have of high pressure, high profile games.
  10. Very poor performance by the ref last night, but I expect Brazil to improve after a nervous start. I might add that they better as I have backed them to win!! Some great games coming up over the weekend, and some not so attractive ones as well. Does anybody actually think Columbia v Greece will see a shot at goal over 90 mins? A banker 0-0 for me! Spain v Holland tonight will hopefully be a good game, perhaps the game we should have got 4 years ago. Heard good things about Chile so looking forward to seeing them as well. The first game of the tournament is traditionally a bit of a drag so now that one is out of the way it will hopefully settle down. Back to the ref last night, I wish FIFA would stop pandering to footballing backwater nations when deciding on officials for big tournaments. There is no shortage of good European/South American refs with a great deal of big match experience that should be used for the big tournament. We cannot keep accepting dreadful performances from refs out of their depth just to say it is a global game and to keep the diddy confederations happy (and therefore keep voting for Blatter!).
  11. Quite like that. Wont buy it as I dont buy footy tops, but I can see that going down well. Shame about the disgusting choice of model though!
  12. Absolutely disgusted at this signing. A really really poor player IMO. His first touch goes further than Daly can kick it, for someone with "pace" he is offside more than any professional player should be, his finishing when given time to think about it is simply atrocious. His main atribute was his pace, which I am sure has now diminished a little, so what we are getting I am not quite sure. His strike partnership worked really well in his second stint, but can anyone really see him and Daly work? And where does that leave the one natural goalscorer at the club, Nicky Clark. Stuck on the bench for another season wasting away. I can see Clark not even getting on the bench a lot next season as Miller plays the lone striker against the better clubs in the division as Ally does the old "give the opposition too much respect" routine and plays 5 in midfield at Hibs/Hearts/Falkirk. Disgusted.
  13. I absolutely give up on anyone who thinks Kenny feckin Miller is a viable proposition for a season in the second tier of Scottish football, and even less time for those who may think he would be good in the top flight in 15-16. Apart from a six month hot streak, his time with us has been an absolute disaster. He misses the target with such regularity, he should be ashamed to call himself a striker. His countless offside runs ruin many a good opportunity. And does anyone really belive his one asset, his pace, will be as good as it was given his age & the level he has been playing at? If we cannot find a better striker than Kenny fecking Miller around the whole wide world to bring into our club, then there truly is no hope for our great club.
  14. I used to be the same. It was always one or the other. Usually if a new edition of Number 1 or FF came out I would buy it, and the weeks there wasnt a new edition, I would buy a programme. I am quite sure this was repeated by hundreds of match-going bears. The comparison between this and this red/black shirt is certainly a valid one, when discussing the impact on club funds from commercial avenues, as is the street vendors selling flags and scarves that can also be bought at the club shop. What interests me in the red/black shirt scenario is the fact that a £33 shirt is only making £7/£8 profit. Is it really costing £25 a shirt to produce?
  15. A fantastically frank and spot on interview there. What would we be like with stability and common sense like that in our boardroom for the last 20 years instead of moonbeams, Whyte, green, and easdales.
  16. ECM had some fabulous success and some catastrophic failure. The treble in 2003 was fantastic, over 100 points IIRC, and we scored over 100 goals with 3 players getting over 20 each, but the Zizkov result was embarrassing. From then on we were a selling club as Murray gave up on us and tried to get the debt down, and it was no coincidence that we suffered as a result. He remarkably managed to get some journeymen (big marv for example) and turn them into champions in 2005 against a very expensive bheast side managed by the greatest ever manager ever seen, ever! Let's not forget also he is the only Rangers manager to take us through the group stages of the CL into knockout, the draw in Porto being the highlight and we were unlucky in Villarreal who could beat us in 2 attempts and went onto lose unluckily in the SF. The 05-06 season was total torture, a very long run of games (12 was it) without a win was the real low point, and coming 3rd in a two team league rightly resulted in jotters being issued. Overall his tenure of 4.5 years with two titles and a further 5 cups was a good effort during a period of downsizing against a good bheast side full of expensive players. I don't really care what he has went on to do, history will say he done a good job for us.
  17. The RST (I am a member myself and have been since Partick town hall 2003!) has to engage with the fan base at every opportunity, even for meetings like this where they are not really "involved" IMO. I get where you are coming from and I am not sure which board member is representing RST this time, but I am sure it will be more from a listening and reporting back standpoint.
  18. While shoredbear has a valid point, the internal warring between fans occurs mainly online, so therefore having this meeting attended by mostly forums, blogs, radio etc is exactly the target audience. I find most offline members of RST, Assoc, Alliance, RSC's, are on the same page with regard to club politics. This is backed up vocally at the games, and in card displays etc. that is not where the problem lies and therefore not the target audience for a meeting of this kind IMO.
  19. It is going to go one of two ways. Either it is properly managed and everyone stays focused on the main issue in hand, or it goes into a slagging match between pro-board and anti-board, FF/VB, etc. I can only hope it is the former, and something positive comes out of it in theory. In practice however, not a lot can possibly change due to the very nature of anonymity on forums IMO.
  20. I got a response from Robert on RM to the same post on the thread there, but I appealed for him to set an agenda and stick to it and he hasn't replied so not sure what is going to happen there tomorrow. BTW, the answer to the first point I raised was confirmed by Robert, in that it was not a RF meeting, and that none of the non-Rangers supporting guys who are helping with the RF stuff will be in attendance. Robert also confirmed he is chairing the meeting. He also said he was thinking of going without a strict agenda, and just let it fly with some pointers, which is a recipe for disaster and hopefully he will review that position and work to an agenda. I know from experience that if the Chair is not strictly keeping a Rangers fan meeting on topic, it will quickly disintegrate into a whole new area altogether, and that could end up defeating the whole purpose tomorrow if they are not careful. We will see what tomorrow brings, I am hopeful it goes well.
  21. Couple of points I hope you can clarify about the meeting please Greg, Firstly, I am right to say this is nothing to do with Rangers First, and that their non-rangers supporting office-bearers will not be in attendance. I am supportive of Rangers First personally, but this is supposed to be for and about Rangers supporters, and I know some I have spoken to are hopeful that this is not a RF PR stunt, which I am sure it's not but would like the point nailed from the outset. Second, can you confirm that there will be a proper agenda published in advance, and strictly adhered to. It is very easy for these types of meetings to go way off topic, and it really needs a strong chair to keep it on track. Cheers if you can respond.
  22. I fully expect a comfortable league win, and here's why. The players we have are good top tier level players, who have allowed their standards this season to slip as there was absolutely no competition. The added competitive nature of the two Edinburgh teams for the coming season will see our players know they will have to up their game, which they are perfectly capable of doing. Although there are teams called Hearts and Hibs in our league, they are unrecognisable from the Hearts and Hibs teams we played in the SPL last time we were there. Hearts are full of kids that are not that good, hence the points total they achieved last season (even giving back the 15 they were deducted). On top of that they have got rid of their better players since the season ended, and will no doubt not be replacing them with anyone of pedigree to trouble us. Hibs are a dreadful side, and have just released 14 of their best players in a cost-cutting cull. The other sides in our division like Alloa, Dumbarton, Cowdenbeath, will pose no threat to us, but hopefully they will try to play football against us and not just park the bus as every side has done to us the last two years. With the opposition being a better standard, I would hope the standard of football will be better to watch, and not just glorified training sessions where we try, painfully at times, to break down teams that will not change formation or attack even when losing. I expect us to win the league by between 15-25 points, pretty much the same difference as we would be ahead of good Hearts/Hibs teams if we were all in the top flight. I have heard we are 1/6 to win the title next season, although a quick check of all the bookies websites shows that no markets have been formed for the Scottish leagues yet (reconstruction anyone?!!) so we need to wait and see what the bookies think, and they are not usually too far wrong as last seasons 1/40 for us and the scum to each win our titles indicates. Although like most I can see great faults in Ally's style of play, tactical nous, and choice of assistants to ahem, assist and advise him, I cant see us not winning this title comfortably. The two Edinburgh teams will fight it out for second/third and Falkirk/QoS battle it out for the last play off place, with Raith, Livvy, Alloa, Dumbarton, Cowdenbeath making up the numbers and looking to avoid relegation so as to get another crack at the (possibly) two Edinburgh clubs if they fail to win the play-offs.
  23. I am sure I read 16th June somewhere. It will be that week for sure.
  24. In true Walter style it would be made up of 7 defenders (5 of which were right backs), and one up front!!
