What an arrogant assumption. Don't know who you mean exactly by our fellow citizens but there is a particularly nasty far-right English nationalism prevalent right now and I don't hear much condemnation from you. Or does it only apply if dressed up in tartan? -

You're right about Nietzche but wrong about today's 'marxism.' That's like that Tory MP on tv yesterday going on about footballers being marxists. He wouldn't recognise one if he tripped over him in the street. -

A bit off topic, but you might appreciate this: I'm sure I read that our B team in the match against Clyde, had a substitute called Cervantes. Is that why the performance was so quixotic? -

I sort of get what you're saying but you veer perilously close to cynicism, which is not an endearing trait. I may be an idealist but I hope for a future which the author of this quote yearned: I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full.” -

Envy is one of the seven deadly sins, sure. But so are sloth and gluttony. -

You really hate the sans culottes don't you? Let entitlement be the prerogative of the Kates Moss and Cambridge, T. Cruise and their mates. -

Yeah, I know. God, I absolutely hate tattoos. I was being a bit facetious. 'Fraid those yobs are not exclusive to England though. -

Just try getting inside the minds of those dispossessed for a minute. I'm not excusing the violence - just trying to explain it. Surely even you can see there's a difference? No doubt you would have thought Marie Antoinette was 'entitled'? ? -

In what way 'appalling'? Because I venture to suggest (with suitable qualification) that the rich and famous shouldn't be entitled to seats when they are most likely not real football fans? And I didn't excuse the hooligan behaviour. -

While I agree with every word you've written - especially the second paragraph - I would just point out that maybe, just maybe, those ticketless'fans' storming the stadium may have been motivated by the fact that the likes of someone called Kate Moss (and numerous other luvvies)was hogging a seat that should have gone to genuine footy fans. Still no excuse though. -

Remember when they tried the Golden Goal? That was soon abandoned. Penalties are harsh but they are assuredly not a lottery; they are a test of skill and nerve. -

Southgate's biggest error was in allowing young Saka to take one. He should have ordered that fanny Grealish or Shaw to take one - yet apparently they declined. -

Absolutely; Rashford's was so ridiculous I expected him to miss it. You'd think Harry Kane would have coached his mates on how to take pens. -

You may need to revise your history of the union flag (the term' Union 'Jack' is technically incorrect); their country's flag is included in it - as is Scotland's. -

I moved to England shortly before the 1966 win. And they were claiming it as a victory for British football when it was a victory for English football. What annoyed us more than anything was to see so many Union flags at Wembley - a flag England are not entitled to. Thankfully, now they have learned after 55 years what their national flag was. We wouldn't be the same though - we would be a damn sight worse! -
I've only just started to forgive Souness when he left us for Liverpool, mainly because he saw them as a bigger club than us - which they were actually not at the time. However, when Gerrard goes to Liverpool, he will certainly go with my blessing. That is where his heart lies. I don't think he will be tempted by any other job.

Yes, it's their hypocrisy that gets me; they talk about Italy being good at the 'dark arts' but Grealish and Sterling in particular are masters at it. Mind you, I have to admit England's physical condition is impressive - extra time is no bother to them. -

It's inevitable. You would have thought that the manager of the first British team to win the European Cup would have got one but oh no, he wasn't managing an English team; that honour was reserved for Manchester United.
