At the time SG was appointed our stock was so low that many were happy for us to be a stepping stone; we were not an attractive proposition for anyone and Gerrard did at least bring some prestige to us and his name alone attracted some players. Not the case now though.

See what you mean but you can't compare Beale to Walter; the latter had a firm commitment to Rangers. I always expected SG to leave but never saw Souness doing it - he also claimed Liverpool were bigger than Rangers which was demonstrably untrue at the time if not now. Timing of a departure is not always in a manager's hands.

Here's a suggestion from left field: my cousin is a Rangers and Melbourne Victory supporter and Kevin Muscat won them 2 championships. There is already an Australian in Glasgow who was similarly dismissed by some. Just a thought....

You do have a good point if we assume that the long-term goal is to manage Liverpool. A bad spell at Villa could damage him irreversibly; alternatively he could, like Rodgers, cement his reputation. But it would be a blow to us for sure - just don't get fans seeming to wish it to happen. We could even see an exodus of players (Goldson, Tav. - Kent..) Wouldn't look so good then, would it?
