The Gersnet Gossip Mill Returns for the Summer
alexscottislegend replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
What is it with all these left-sided players? It's quality on the right we need.- 14 replies

Ernest Worthing? A handbag!!
-
I've got the 1974 album - the late Jim Holton an' all! Beat that!
-
Take it your tongue's firmly in your cheek here? What the hell is Wilkie doing there? And we were linked with Klasnic who I've just seen play brilliantly tonight - now you're talking!
-
That's likely to mean we'll need to get £3m for Cousin. Who in their right mind would pay that? The thought of that liability hanging round for another season is truly galling.

What Does Resigning Kenny Miller Really Say About Rangers?
alexscottislegend replied to CammyF's topic in Rangers Chat
A good article from Cammy F. BUT - I think Miller is getting more stick than he should nonetheless. He will at least give 100% unlike Cousin who he will likely replace. What about Velicka? No way is he better than Boyd. If Boyd is shown the door then that will be the real scandal, not the Miller signing. IMo we only really need one REAL quality player - in right midfield - to 'go one better' than last year. We already have a good squad. I fear there will be a striker clearout. Cousin will be missed by no one, but Velicka to replace Boyd should spark anger to make the fuss over Miller's signing seem like a tea party.- 10 replies

Cuellar para Espana!
alexscottislegend replied to alexscottislegend's topic in General Football Chat
Did you see Marchena tonight v Sweden? He gave away a really clumsy foul against I think Elmander that Cuellar would not have done in a month of Sundays. And the guy who came on for Puyol? 'nuff said. -
Anyone know why our beloved Carlos has not even been given a sniff at the Spain squad, never mind the team? Surely the Spanish noticed his Euro heroics? I can't see that Puyol or Marchena are obviously better. They have the edge on experience, but I've seen Puyol have some shaky moments. I know who I'd rather have defending my goal...
-
Nope, it doesn't. Just don't think there are too many good managers out there who would want the job. And if Miller is reviled by some supporters because of his Celtic connections, what reception would Collins and McGhee get?
-
Yep. It's hypocrisy, pure and simple. The sub-text is that that they questioning the judgment of Walter and Ally. And if they want them out, who would come in? Billy Davies?
-
Actually Miller has taken a cut from his 25k at Derby. No I wouldn't take 'any old crap.' Just think KM is not that bad value. You get sod all for 2 million nowadays. Not sure if Lafferty at 4 million would be better value; his scoring record is woeful. Agree with Fletcher though. We could still have him!
-
At last a bit of common sense. I always thought the posters on here were a bit more mature than those on FF. I didn't like the badge thumping but players are mercenary nowadays, they're not all like Barry Fergie. Look, Miller has scored 11 goals for Scotland against decent opposition playing in the thankless lone striker's role. I suspect that's why WS bought him. Also, he'd be the perfect partner for Boyd; I reckon they'll get at least 30 goals between them - 24 for boyd, 6 for KM! I'd compare him to David Healy - not a standout at club level but for NI was exceptional. don't know why he fell off the radar. All you doubters, NAME someone we could have got for the same money.
-
Agreed. Beasley deserves an extended run. It's a right sided player we are most short of now, yet we keep getting linked with all these lefties. We missed out on Gera from WBA - he could have done a job.
-
But if Lovenkrands comes back then he will fit perfectly into a 4-4-1-1. I agree with others on another thread about dropping either Thomson or Ferguson. We dont need both of them. So its 1 from them then an attacking player like Lovenkrands or Davis with 2 wide men. Elaborate, please. Assume we have Lovenkrands back. Can you put names to to that formation?
-
Good call that. 4-2-3-1 Fergie and Thomson sitting, Davis in front flanked by Beasley and Novo and up front.. well. Names anyone?
-
IF we sign him where do we play him? What happens to Beasley? Boyd and Miller up front? Someone tell WS we need a right sided player. I saw one tonight - name of ....Sionko!
-
Mightily impressed with Engelaar whom I hadn't seen before. Is he really (a) available, and (b) affordable for us?
-
Whatever it is, let's hope that it's actually ROYAL blue, not the light blue versions we've had in recent years. I know that back in the 1880's our strip was much lighter, but I was brought up to believe our colours were Royal blue. I once had a Vauxhall Chevette in that colour. Class!

Ronaldo set for Madrid? / Fall out with Fergie?
alexscottislegend replied to Gribz's topic in General Football Chat
What's even more interesting is that if a club like like Man. U can't tell other clubs to GTF - what chance have we e.g. with Carlos? -
He's actually a left winger, which makes me wonder why we're going for him. It's not as though we don't have any left sided players, viz. Adam,Beasley,Fleck, McCulloch, Naismith. Or does WS see either him or Beasley playing on the right?
-
Make that 4 players and include McGregor.
-
I live near Coventry and can say he's highly regarded by the fans. Scored a few vital goals in relegation battle. Is small and quite skilful, but is he better than Novo? mm.... not sure. Certainly not the player to take us to the next level.

Best post I've seen in a long time. Rather than trying and failing to compete in the big money market we should be buying up potential from overseas and moving them on to the Barcas and Manu's when they develop. I wouldn't feel so bad about losing players then. Look at Africa. We once had a young lad from South Africa - name of Madigage - but it didn't work out. However, that was before Murray Park. Very few youngsters are going to walk straight into Fergie's team or Real's; in fact they could be stuck in the reserves for years. We, however, could give them first team football much earlier. I think the RST, Rangers Assembly, whatever, should lobby SDM and demand a thorough overhaul of the scouting system. Be pro-active, not wait for the Arsenals to snap up promising young talent which isn't ready for the premiership. That is what the French clubs seem to be doing now. It's horrifying to think that the Championship could be leaving us behind. The only other solution is to resurrect the Atlantic League idea, but that's for another time.
-
That must mean that Stevie Smith is not likely to recover from his injury. What's the news on him, anyone heard? Think Riise is a great player, can play left midfield, but LB is really his position surely.
-
Good on ya, Sebo. Shame it didn't work out. Oh, if only Cousin had your attitude!
