Is this Peter Martin the same one who now writes a column for the Evening Tims? If so he is a tosser of the highest order and a disgrace to the memory of a fine and balanced journalist, Alan Davidson.

The madness and genius of crowds: last night versus Motherwell
alexscottislegend replied to bmck's topic in Rangers Chat
Great piece of writing. Reminded me of McIllvanney at his best.Compare that to the idiot who who writes a column for the Evening Tims - Peter Martin I think his name is. He's predicting a 2-0 win to Zenit and has predicted Gers to lose every time. -
Everyone is forgetting that we can afford ONE defeat. Motherwell were the better side up until they conceded a slack equaliser.
-
Let's not forget the dosh we get for qualifying for CL. AND the fact as winners we go into group stages. I couldn't stand another nerve-wracking qualifying round.
-
Got my victory speech already prepared: Aristotle Onassis, Archimedes,Gottlieb Daimler,Albert Einstein,Vasco Da Gama, Jorge Cadete, Leonardo da Vinci,Silvio Berlusconi, Leo Tolstoy, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.......... YOUR BOYS TOOK A HELL OF A BEATING!
-
Can you explain that for me please? I thought our coefficient meant that we would get an automatic place anyway - ?
-
Seem to be 8 - Weir, Davis, Beasley, McCulloch, Adam,McGregor,Burke, Naismith. Weir would be biggest loss. We went to pieces when he went off on Sunday. Evening Times made Dailly man of the match! To my mind he was at fault for first 2 goals. Don't know what team will be but I think we need Buffel in there somewhere; he's bound to be fresh.
-
Why? He seems to have something to prove when he comes on. When he starts - as with last night - he seems unsure of himself. Runs about a lot without achieving much. Maybe he's a bit like Solksjkaer at Manure - Fergie always said he studied the game before coming on and that made him the perfect sub. ?
-
What memories you guys have! Ally McLeod - who Souness said, thought "tactics was a peppermint" - made us into a laughing stock; the Iran draw was just about the lowest I've ever felt. With the players we had then we should have done an awful lot better. Craig Brown had, on the whole, a much less talented group to work with.
-
This seems a waste. He is in danger of becoming our Riordan, i.e. signed just to stop other clubs taking him. I thought he looked good in a pre-season friendly v La Galaxy and he was an SPL regular. If he doesn't get a chance now, then I fear he has no future. So what would have the point in signing him?
-
Every time I hear people talk about Boyd I am reminded of what the great Gerd Muller (you youngsters may not have heard of him) said when he was accused of "only" scoring goals; he said, "Nobody ever ONLY scores goals!"
-
I'm getting a little tired of some bears seeming to accept our position as a selling club. Where do we get a keeper half as good as Mc? Where do we get a defender half as good as Carlos? Oh, but we're awash with cash? So that's all right then? I can just now accept the Hutton money, but - WE DON'T NEED TO SELL. We are NOT a nursery club for anybody, ANYBODY! Except maybe we could sell Carlos to Barca or Man U. We need to keep our best players together, plus SIGN up Davis (sod off Blackburn) and by two QUALITY players in summer (creative midfielder and Striker) so we can compete in the CL and earn some real money.
-
We don't NEED the money at the moment. If we were daft enough to take it, first thing we'd have to do is replace him. Who with, exactly? And what would he cost? Granted, everyone has his price, but if we are now a selling club, how can we ever hope to compete in Europe again?
-
Much as we don't need Miller, I can't agree that he's worse than Sebo. He does good job for Scotland, but his scoring record for the Tims was woeful! There MUST be other strikers we can go for - Klasnic for one.
-
Agree with most of those, though Davis should be "sign" in block capitals. Re Cousin, I think he's not really commited. Would take £3m and replace him a younger, hungrier striker. Klasnic has been mooted. And we need a replacement for Darch. I'd think about Nugent at Portsmouth: may be expensive but would have sell-on value. After all was in England squad not toolong ago.
-
Beattie - think you misunderstand "optimised" for "epitomised" but I take your point - it's time he turned that potential into "actual." To think his dad negotiated a lucrative contract for him last season! Maybe we could flog him to McLeish at Brum. We would certainly need a wide player to replace him though. Thinking about money and value, I suggest Kris Commons at Notts. Forest.
-
Why do we keep getting drawn at home? Pana - home Werder - home first leg Sporting - home " Fiorentina/psv - home Under the law of averages we should have had at least one first game away!
-
Yep, but sometimes players have to be dropped for their own good. Even Rooney is left out occasionally by Fergie. Do we really need Barry for games ve St Mirren or Killie? (no disrespect)
-
Fergie is showing signs of tiredness no doubt; normally he'd be first on the team sheet IMO. Let's leave him out for some league games, say v the likes of Kilmarnock or St. Mirren. Even Rooney's omitted from Man U from time to time.
-
After watching Spurs go out on penalties last night after being the better side, I'm starting to get nervous. If - God forbid -we had to go to pens. would you trust this line-up? Nacho, Fergie, Davis, Adam, and Boyd. That's the best pen line-up I can think of, and with McGregor v Wiese in goal, we'd have a chance!
-
Anybody else heard the rumour Walter will sign him in summer? Can't for the life of me see why. Does that mean there is a serious long-term doubt over Steven Smith? If he's just for back-up, then we've already got Papac and Whittaker for LB
-
Juffery's spot on. We don't need ANYONE who sees us and 2nd choice. BARDSLEY may be better then McNaughton or alexander, but we have Whittaker as back-up and then maybe even Broadfoot?
-
Now look: this is a straightforward honest question. Yes, he's been inconsistent in the past, yes, he's had injuries - but he seems now to be fit. SO - WHY does Buffel not merit a start - ESPECIALLY since he'd fit beautifully into a 4-5-1? After all, he played that way at Feyenoord. And if he is on his way out - who should we go for to replace hime - give the midfield that bit of "continental class"?
-
Agree with most of the posters. Miller had his chance but ruined it with that badge-thumping nonsense. Anyway, where did the story come from? Is WS REALLY thinking of it? Derby want £2m Surely there must be someone better we can spend that cash on?
