Only thing I will disagree with in John Barr's otherwise interesting post is that we have a good alternative in Alexander. Although goalies reach their peak much later, Neil's well into his thirties and has had a, shall we say, chequered career. If we let Mac go, we'd be looking for a replacement and we've enough other priorities (left side for instance) without that. Best thing, as Gribz says, is to get a good goalkeeping coach like Goram. Who's our coach at the moment? Is it Jim Stewart? Whoever it is has to start earning his corn. Anyway, with his off-field image, who is going to pay big money? We'd be lucky to get a couple of millions, and that's not enough in my book to jettison a keeper whose best years are still ahead of him.

Talking of muppets, wait till you see Ally as manager! The point I am really trying to make is who is there who (a) would take the job; (b)is available; and © good enough for us? Was just flying a kite to see if you guys can come up with some NAMES.
-
Agree Jol is a decent manager but he would fail at Rangers if he wasn't given proper funding - just like Levein did at Leicester. Just look at the transformation in Dundee U since he went there - he's passionate, good man manager, out-thought Walter in big occasions when they have played us..
-
'Ripening nicely' for what though? The end of Walter? 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished, but who is there to replace him? (Don't say cynically, 'anyone') I'd quite fancy Craig Levein, but he's just opted for 3 years at Dundee U.
-
Don't doubt he could play for another 6 seasons, but it's another nail in the coffin for our 'youth' policy. More likely it'll be a transaction where we'll look to offload him at the first decent offer, rather than actually trying to build a team/squad that could 'grow' together.
-
Think you're spot on there Craig. Broadfoot, despite his detractors who should know better, would probably benefit from being played in his true position. If Steve Smith is really never to recover, then I would look at Easton from Hamilton, or maybe Lee Wallace. The guy Tonel may be decent but at 28 is hardly one for the future (or is WS hoping we can do another Carlos here?). Actually, after last Saturday I was thinking who we would consider automatic choices for the first team as the squad stands at present. I came up with: McGregor, Bougherra, Mendes, Davis, Thomson, Boyd and Miller. That leaves 2 full backs, a centre back and a left midfielder. Everyone else should be available at the right price. I'm a Fergie fan but don't think he can play with Mendes, yet remember how we were all salivating to see how they would team up? I am trying to stay positive but sad to say i think we are now seeing a reprise of Walter's time at Everton, not his glory years of 9IAR.

I loathe the lightness - in colour - of some of our modern strips, and I believe that originally Light Blue was the colour, only becoming closer to Royal Blue in the thirties, I think. I wish we could get back to that Royal Blue - my scarf, and those of most supporters - is much darker than the team shirt.
-
No it bloody well isn't hilarious. All I can think about is that Scotland's co-efficient will be seriously damaged, meaning that we'll be back to one team only for the Champions League, and then only after a qualifying round. Also, they don't have europe to distract them now and I can't see them driopping points to the likes of St. Mirren. Tonight is the night we lost the league - and it may be years before we have a European run like last year.
-
What's the matter with you all? Don't you want us to actually BUILD a team for once? Or are you only concerned with getting as much money as you can? If we sell the likes of Mendes and Bougherra - our only real marketable assets - then we might have, say. £10 million but what kind of a team can we get for that? If we get bargains then we'll only look to sell them on.. and so forth. While you're about it, why not cash in on Fleck? It's not as if he'll get to play for us.. A little thing called ambition, lads.
-
The only thing he has going for him is a decent left foot and can on occasions hit a good free kick. I'm struggling to remember the last one though. No pace, no dribbling ability, not even a good tackler. The left side is without doublt our Achilles' hee. Gentlemen, I give you the answer: one Kris Commons - I think we could afford him.

Annoyingly, the RFC website also refers to us as the Light Blues. Over the years our strips have got lighter. The current one is not bad, but sometimes in the light it seems more light than Royal Blue for me.

On a grim night the only plus for me was that McGregor - whom we all worried about - seems to be getting back to his best form. -

As John Barr says, it isn't talked about much now which always irks me. It was only a few years before Hillsborough and only about 20 or 30 less people died. Sorry - just realised refers to 1902 - but still thinik the 66 version attracts not enough attention compared to Hilsborough. -
Yep, saw the programme and knew the story but there seems to be some confusion about whether he played for Rangers or not. What actually happened was he signed professional for us in 1914 but didnt get to play because of the outbreak of war. So I think we can claim him as one of our own. Incidentally we had an Egyptian on our books in about 1908 i think, name of Mohammed Latif.

He claims it was Lee McCulloch but then why would he do that to him? Hope burley takes note and begs him to come back. The goal v Thistle and the one on saturday show he doesn't just do 'ordinary ' goals.
-
Just a question - who came up with the 'Darkie-ville' line? As for the 'Rangers hell' that's just typical pseudo journo-speak. They say that when somebody has been left out for a couple of games...

Ian - just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you... -
Why should it be a confidence problem? Last season he just didn't seem able to make a mistake. It seems that the injury he sustained must have taken something out of him. I wonder if he has properly recovered from that. Only other explanation is his off-field activities, but then again he was much more the focus of the media when he was playing well last season.

As Frankie says we can't afford to drop any more points. What makes it the more galling is that I can't see THEM dropping any; thought they may have thrown away a couple v. Hearts but the Jamtarts were terrible. Ask yourself: can you see THEM dropping points against St. Mirren? Hopefully they will have a reaction to their ManU exertions.

Not sure if I did contradict myself - hate Matt Elliott as much as you. And I'm not too sure about being brought up in Scot. - is Andrew Driver eligible? Born in England, played all his footy in Scotland?
-
I hope nobody on here is upset that Nacho can't play for Scotland. IMO it's a nonsense that anyone with no bloodline can play for a country under a passport qualification. Otherwise international football is meaningless. Look at Matt Elliott; won 18 caps for us and then said he'd rather walk his dog than support Scotland. I love Nacho as much as any gers fan but Scotland? No thanks. We should be pressurising Burley to get Boyd back.
-
Think you're right here. That is going to be the only way we get sanity. What does worry me though is I fear there could be real violence resulting at the next OF game purely because of the resentment that has been engendered.

There's an article in today's Herald claiming that the next step will be to arrest people. I'd love to see them try; the prisons are filled to bursting with minor offenders while paedophiles walk free. I can see the first ever 'famine martyrs' being created. Let them go ahead and try - the world can then see the injustice of it all while the perpetrators of the Novo hate song snigger on the sidelines.

Think you're spot on there about Burley's comments. (I meant Ascender's point.)In fact Burley should go down on bended knee to him and get him on board. Paired with Miller I'd love to see this Scotland partnership. I'll leave my thoughts about Novo to another thread.
