1. [ If he does plump for Gordon, will he loose the respect of the media and the fans, especially those Rangers fans that still support the national team? If I were McGregor and I was overlooked in favour of Gordon, I'd follow Boyd's example and tell Burley where to stick his team. Cammy F I really can't undrstand anyone wanting all our players to withdraw from the Scotland set-up. Do you ever hear English players saying they will never play for their country if they dont get picked for a match? I always thought we Scots were more patriotic not less. As it stands, Burley has warned Gordon his place is under threat. Sure, Mac. is the man in form, but it's just a matter of time before he gets his Sunderland place back IMO. Re the Boyd situation the ball is in his court. He pulled out - rightly or wrongly - and it is his place to announce he wants to return. At the moment there is no way Iwelumo will get a start over him.
2. Yes - I just meant that he is not a natural winger. He started out as a traditional CF.
3. Likewise he shouldn't be charging down the left wing like a left winger! Leave that to Lafferty, MCulloch and Adam:)
4. And what was being sung. Watched it on Setanta, had it on quite loud and all I heard was a few snatches of 'No surrender'. But 's that not specifically banned. At any rate it's no different to what I heard the other night on Rab. C Nesbitt. Guy lays dying and someone says, 'he's turned blue.' "Course he has, he's a Hun!". Would have lauged at that at one time but now..
5. Kyle lafferty yet again failed to impress and its beggars belief he got the nod for today considering who was on the bench. Actually I thought Lafferty played quite well; he always looked a threat, but remember it's not his fault he's playing out of position. Walter said he was in there because he wanted 'height.' So why not put him in the middle? He's had this obsession about playing a natural centre forward out on the left since he brought McCulloch here. But to take him off for Whittaker? When Aaron and Fleck - proven left-siders - were on the bench? As you say it beggars belief.
6. I love this chronicle of everyday hacks. Have you some inside knowledge here?
7. I take your point but if he was playing for us wouldn't you put up with all? If yes, then fair play to your integrity. Wish I could be so sure.
8. Smithies is apparently highly rated, but more promising than ours at Murray Park? Who knows? Only thing I can think is that they're planning to have a top keeper in place if they sell McGregor for a good fee. If so, hats off to our management team for forward planning. Nah, doesn't sound like them.
9. Has anyone really heard of him? Don't remember an Allan playing for Falkirk, so is it really true? How anybody can dislike the wee man is beyond me, though if the dark side hate him it must be a sort of compliment.
10. Yes, and our goal difference of +10 is due in no small part to ...Mr Boyd. I believe it could yet prove vital, and I don't see the Tims overhauling that.
11. Some stories are just too good to check out! Hilarious, that one.
12. Didn't know you remembered them, Norris. But seriously, love your idea of Martinez. What he's done at Swansea on little money is superb. Sadly, I fear the EPL willl snap him up first.
13. Yes, Cammy, Moyes would be an outstanding candidate but I discounted him on the grounds that he would not be welcomed by those who opposed Kenny M. - he played, albeit without distinction, for the dark side.
14. Sadly yes. Ally is a bit like Alan Shearer at N'castle - local hero turned media pundit. I'd rather he went elsewhere to learn his trade first. But - who to replace Walter? I know some will say just get rid of WS first, but we have to think of possible replacements and I cannot think of anyone who is (a) available, (b) would take the job and © has achieved enough success to be a contender like say Dick Advocaat was. I may draw some obloquy (good word) from some for this, but actually the obvious candidtate at the moment is - Alex McLeish.
15. Could we even play him on the right with Fleck on the left and Davis in the middle? Aaron is I think predominantly right-footed, so that would give us a half-decent midfield. Oh, I know too much to expect and too obvious with Walter and Ally at the helm. My, I'm becoming as cynical as MF.
16. Never heard that before! Still, we weren't known as the Teddy Bears in my youth:)
17. [Number 9 and thought that I dreamed I was Derek Parlane as I ran around the back garden). To me, this will always be the classic Rangers ‘look’. You dreamed of being Derek Parlane? If it were nowadays it'd be Kris Boyd eh?
18. Hear, hear. Black socks topped off with red. I've raised this before but I think we're in danger of losing our traditional Royal Blue. Yes,yes, I know that in Victorian times we were Light blue and the strips got progressively darker, but sometimes it seems to me that we are getting lighter again. Even the current strip, while welcome, still seems lighter than Royal blue to me. (Or am I just colour blind?) And while we're on the subject, why do keep being referred to as the 'Light Blues?@ Is 'Royal' blue not politically correct now?
19. Spot on. Can't believe that there wasn't any reference from them about 'huns' etc.
20. Very, very naughty of you to tease MF like that.
21. Burley was right in what he said about Fleck - totally wrong in the way he treated Boyd. I would love Fleck to play for Scotland. I take it you wouldn't want him lining up alongside any C****c player? But then I suppose you're in favour of a Team GB?
22.
Where in my post did i state Burley insulted Fleck? So just because Burley insulted Kirk and Boyd he has no right to comment on Fleck - even if he's right? If you wish to watch our national team among a bunch of "fans" dressed in "Made in Taiwan Kilts" and Timberland boots, booing our captain Barry its your choice. Any Scotland supporter who boos along club lines is no true supporter IMO. - whatever the club.
23. Yeh, but I can't see Aaron or Beasley up front with Boyd - unless you're thinking pull in Fleck and put one of those two out wide. O.K. but Walter won't go for it - I feel it in my bones.
24. I'd agree wholly with that line-up apart from the hopelessly out-of-form Miller. With no Novo to step in I just don't know who should partner Boyd. I don't think Lafferty complements him. Moving Fleck in from LM leaves a hole there for McCulloch to fill (!!). That just leaves Naismith, and it's maybe too early for him, having just returned from injury.
25. 'Tartan army ****s'? What the hell are you talking about? I'm a proud Rangers and Scotland supporter. Our players have down the years formed the backbone of Scotland sides -Greig, Baxter, Cooper where do I start? How has Burley insulted young Fleck? By suggesting he may be a bit young? In fact he was quoted as saying if you're good enough, you're old enough. By all means criticise Burley but running down the concept of our national team is disloyal at best and sectarian at worst. I couldn't care less if our national side consisted of 11 C****c players -when they pull on a dark blue jersey they are Scottish players. Full stop.
