My point is that the Arsenals and the Manu's still seem to have a better track record than we do of giving youth a chance- young Wellbeck is a case in point. And that is despite their huge buying power. We should develop a reputation of being a place where good young youth can get a chance. If big clubs buy in our youth they will only rot in the reserves given the enormous squads they have. By the way I think Ross McCormack has blossomed away from Scotland. what does that say about our coaching system?

Hope you're right. Worse than anything Walter has done is to see other clubs constantly being linked to the cream of our youth. If EPL clubs rate them, they must have something going for them - or is it harder to play in the SPL:devil:

Bobo Balde: I want to stay at Celtic

Couldn't happen to a nicer club. But before we get too smug, let's remember our own version - M. Hemdani. -
Yeh, all right - forgetting Laff was still a youngster:)

Bougherra and Fleck - no other choice possible.

Steven Smith to play as trialist for Cardiff

We should be told. If it simply is that his injury has done for him then why cant the club just be honest? -
So limited are the chances of young players getting a game for our first team, that they can make an international debut first! It's about time Walter started appreciating our young talent the way other shrewd judges are.
-
Surprised you haven't heard of him, Norris - or is your tongue in its cheek? He was an international for Scotland, a good passer of the ball, played in same team as Baxter about 1967. Was rumoured to have been knocking about Baxter's sister, if I remember right. Anyway, has always hated us with a passion. My hackles rise when I hear people 'dissing' Broadfoot like that. If there's a more improved player in Scotland I haven't seen him.

Danny Wilson? Are you crazy? Swap one of our most promising youngsters before they've been given a chance?
-
Maybe I'm wrong but is it not a world cup tie so we have to under FIFA rules?

Fergie and Mendes are a bit like the Gerrard-Lampard debate. They both want to play in the same areas. For me when Thomson is back, it's one or the other. As the younger man, I'd go with Mendes. I don't think Davis is wasted wide right-that goal he got v Falkirk came from him cutting in on the left!

I always had Goughie marked own as a dead cert for future Rangers manager - in the days when there seemed no shortage of candidates. Even now I wonder...what on earth went wrong with his mangerial career. He had a spell at Livingston to learn the ropes then what? As Norris said, he has all the qualities to be a Rangers manager. I think McCoist lacks a certain gravitas - can't say that about Gough.

[ there's also an awful lot of dirt on him, not just through the tommy sheridan shenanigans Eh? Tell me, I've never heard that one.

For almost the first time I can remember we have a really good crop of promising youngsters but WS seems afraid to play them. If EPL managers can see the quality we've got - and Redknapp isn't the first - then it is a crime not to give them 20 minutes here and there, maybe in CIS cup games for example. This is what Wenger and Fergie do and they have got much bigger squads than us. If we let the Flecks and the Wilsons go with out giving them a proper chance then it is really the end of a great club. Rangers FC - 'Elephant's graveyard.'

Is it really such a dream? They say you never forget your first love:)
-
Is that true? If Webster really is match-fit then then that was unforgiveable.

Pardon me for starting a new thread, but I'm just overwhelmed with the novelty of a Gers team in which everyone bar McCulloch is playing in their normal position! And we're already one-up (Lafferrty)

Strictly off topic, I know - but who's your avatar?

Herald: Former Conservative Leader Sees Through Sectarianism Sham
alexscottislegend replied to Wija's topic in Rangers Chat
This is an interesting point. What would the attitude be of most bears if the Union was dissolved, I have often wondered. I actually agree with you that an independent Scotland would be disastrous; the SNP are nothing more than Tartan tories. Nevertheless, I wouldn't be surprised to see an independent Scotland in my lifetime. Question is -would it be a genuine state for the working man or another, smaller dog-eat-dog type of system? And as Sroomz says, there is no difference between New Labour and Tories -both are equally and totally corrupt. No wonder more folk fail to vote. -
No, he's not the player we need...
-
Flippin' eck. I saw that headline and I thought: Who's trying to take Walter away from us.? Should have realised, though - Walter is not ambitious.
-
And does that mean we will have Ally as manager then? Much as I love him, that thought fills me with horror. Which brings me back to who could we get, who is available and who would take the job? My favourite would be Martinez from Swansea (someone, sorry can't remember who first suggested him). Other than that, Billy Davis.

League Priority now for the Double!!!
alexscottislegend replied to Gers4Life's topic in Rangers Chat
Hate to say this but Barry Ferguson - is this the beginning of the end for him? Can't remember him having a good OF game to be honest. We need Thomson back now more than ever. Mendes - today his passing was awful, but whether he will be the player we all want is now debatable. Walter HAS to win the league now, -
Boyd out of cup final after bust-up with Walter

I loved last season too. Great to get away from the parochialism of Scotland and see our club's name paraded around Europe. Yes the football was backs-to-the-wall, but with the players we had, Alex Ferguson or Guus Hiddink could not have done more. You can criticise WS for buying them, but he was and is hamstrung with the financial constraint we now operate in. To say he could have bought better or used other tactics is another argument altogether. Last season IMO was still a success. This season not winning the title will be a disaster. -
Sadly missing from action on Sunday......

Unfortunately I'm posted hundreds of miles away so not able to get to Ibrox sadly. But I certainly wouldn't be frightened; I've had a fixed penalty charge for saying a naughty word in the presence of - but not directly at - a not-too-friendly plod. But they couldn't do much against 40,000 bears, as I've said before. It's likely they'll pick on some poor sod as a test case. In that instance we should all help by making donations, organising petitions, whatever.
