In the long term I think you are right. It may mean say 3 divisions with up to 60 of Europe's top clubs. Wonder what happened to the Atlantic League idea so beloved of the onetime PSV chairman? Because clubs like that and Ajax and Benfica won't want to be on the outside looking in for much longer.

"Sensational" - Jesus, is this what we've come down to? 'Sensational ' would be Robinho or even Machedo on loan but Hughes?

I said on another thread that it was unlikely to happen, even though it would be fantastic for the OF. The big four in England would be against, and I cannot see the middle table EPL teams in favour either (turkeys do not vote for Christmas.). The SPL is not big enough for us, the status quo is unsatisfactory, so the the only real long-tem option is some kind of european league where the likes of Ajax, Benfica and other giants need to rival the kind of TV income open only to the EPL.

We do need a central midfielder actually.. one who can score the odd goal or two. That was evident today when Edu and Mendes hardly ever got beyond the strikers.

Football bosses plan two Premier Leagues
alexscottislegend replied to johnnyk's topic in General Football Chat
Yep, saw this. Part of me says "yawn, yawn here we go again.." Yet in economic terms it would make sense - it would certainly solve our financial problems. I thought the idea was killed stone dead before when the EPL clubs would refuse to vote for it, not to mention championship clubs who fear the competition from the Old Firm. I'm afraid it sounds like newspapers turning to an old chestnut to fill their pages. -
Would be a decent signing in my view, though we do have other priorities - Right mid. for instance, though Dorman has played there...

It's the PFA award. You only have to trawl through the SPL teams to see how many are ex-Ceptic players/supporters compared to bluenoses and it probably wouldn't be that surprising actually. And before you ask, I don't have any actual mathematical statistics, just a hunch.

Fergie & McGregor available for selection again
alexscottislegend replied to ascender's topic in Rangers Chat
[said in a thread last week, but its criminal the sheer lack of quality that we have in our squad. Nobody to replace the off-form and lackluster Steven Davis, nobody to replace Kevin Thomson and nobody able to cement the wide left position and a lack of real fullbacks. Having these two experienced players available for the remainder of the season can only be a good thing surely? Yes, but McGregor can't play in midfield though - and can you see Fergie playing wide right to relieve Davis? Edu and Steven Smith have increased our options just as much. -
Brunt is not a surprise. Given that Davis and Lafferty are here, it didn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together. However, I think he might make a decent buy for the left side problem. Our biggest problem now is the right midfield - if we move Davis in, who apart from Novo can play there? Feeney - no thanks. Another Velicka.

Maybe Gerd Muller. Did nothing but score goals. Sound familiar? -
Rangers V Motherwell ââ?¬â?? Match Report & Players Ratings
alexscottislegend replied to CammyF's topic in Rangers Chat
Thanks for reminding everyone that he was seen as a better prospect than Hutton not that long ago. Let's hope that he gets a fair crack at things now. To think that he was on trial at Cardiff a week or two ago! -
Great for those of us who live in England. Love the chance to visit the Emirates.
-
1-0 to the Gers. That's the level of our expectations now. And - how sad is this - I would be happy with that.
-
I just hope it's not Gordon Smith. Gerry McNee on the Press Box on Setanta said that certain factions (didn't say if it included him) had been conducting a witch hunt v Smith. For years people have been sayng that we need a football person in the corridors of power and when we finally get one, what do they do?
-
No I wouldn't advocate that, of course not. I wasn't against the Mo Johnston signing as it clearly antagonised THEM. I'm just concerned that if the player wasn't of a similar standard - and McGinn isn't - then the support will hound them out.
-
I was just about to post that. That's all we need, all we bloody need.
-
I like Dorman, and not just for the goal he scored v us. we are short of midfielders who can score a la Lampard. Dorman is nearly in double figures. Don't think we need Barr or Kenneth while we have young Wilson and hopefully Boughera. Stephen McGinn? Are you kidding? He's the grandson or nephew of Jack McGinn. He'd be slaughtered at Ibrox. Arfield we should keep tabs on. He fills a problem position for us.

Cheers for that - remember that song!

Are you old enough to remember ALLY Scott never mind Alex Scott?

Getting banned from FF is a kind of badge of honour. I too got banned - they didn't understand my sense of humour. Welcome to the thinking Rangers' fans' forum.

Agree about KT. But what makes you so sure about Bougherra? Now that Fergie and McGregor are available, I would have thought it more likely we could keep Boogie. If we get a few quid for the Cameron House two, then I would like to see some of it spent on a partner for Bougie, a replacement for Weir.

"The team that drinks together wins together." Who said that? Your starter for ten.

As we write it seems - according to the Sunday Mail - that McGregor may be given an Ibrox 'lifeline.' If so, fine. Think he would have had more than enough punishment. As for Barry, he's burned his boats, I'm afraid. I'm not one of his haters - would have loved to see him make the Hall of Fame, but he's just not cut the mustard as a player for some time now. Sadly (and I look at this from both Rangers and Scotland perspectives) there is no way back for them for Scotland while Burley is in charge; his authority would be irreparably diminished if that were to happen, and I think we would have to wait for someone like Souness to take over. He would insist on the slate being wiped clean.
