I agree it looks like a rugby shirt, but that apart, it seems at long last to be proper Royal Blue - none of this 'light blue' rubbish.

Play Off Final - Blackpool v Cardiff
alexscottislegend replied to Gribz's topic in General Football Chat
And that's exactly the position he never got to try at Ibrox. Too often he was shunted out wide where he hasn't the pace. B'pool use him in his best role and have built their system around him. I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Or in a swap deal for Lafferty! -
Champions League Final - Bayern v Inter
alexscottislegend replied to Gribz's topic in General Football Chat
So it's a question of which arrogant bastard you like least. Van Gaal plays attacking football so I'd prefer Bayern to win. My fear is that will be a 0-0 then extra time and penalties with Mourinho winning. Not good for Football. -
Celtic suffer Europe seeding blow...

Spot on. We have to rid ourselves of this parochialism. Like you say, it was good to see them punctured in Seville at the last hurdle. -

Yeh, I know, but the Europe money wouldn't half come in handy... -
Celtic suffer Europe seeding blow...
alexscottislegend replied to Zappa's topic in General Football Chat
For heaven's sake, don't be childish. We actually need THEM to progress to help Scotland's - and therefore our - chance of improving seedings. The fact they're unlikely to progress is a disaster for Scotland and, ipso facto, for us. We cannot improve the seedings all on our own. C'mon M'well and Dun U! -
There was a time when anyone called Danny or Kevin would seem odd at Ibrox. Kevin Drinkell was once nicknamed 'Billy' by some because they couldn't utter 'Kevin'!

I don't know who is advising him, but I cannot imagine he is anyway near ready for a L'pool or Spurs first team. It should be pointed out to him that he could be in reserve football for 2-3 seasons. Is that preferable to being a first teamer at Ibrox and playing in Europe? It's not always about money - it's about career development too. If he is a Keltic fan then that does change things a bit for me; he would no doubt at some point want to play for them and I would hate to see any player go in a direct transfer, so the EPL is a natural route.

Cannot believe the arrogance of it. Just because they won six games in a row. We won nine titles in a row.
-
So would I . But not yet. Wait till he's had a wee bit more success and the sale is cpmpleted. Another one for the future - and I stress future - is Derek McInnes.
-
Please God this doesn't happen. If we lose youngsters of this quality this early then we might as well compete at first division level. No transfers and no youth policy.
-
That's the point: they couldn't stomach a Rangers man pure and simple. Whereas I would not reject out of hand someone with a Keltic connection if they were suitable. A tragedy, this. People have said we need a football man -who else was so articulate and had such a footballing profile? Furthermore, we'll now get a 'blazer' in to replace him.
-
Totally agree. But I have mixed feelings. Remember Gretna in Europe? To have another 2nd tier team would be a disaster.
-
At the time he was considered to be the worst buy in the premiership. Souness even tried to make excuses for him, saying the pitches didn't suit his long legs or something like that. Anyway, he didnt look the same player; maybe we over-rated him too much. Wouldn't say the same about Cuellar - he was a standout against European opposition.
-
Don't follow you here. If he doesn't sign (possibly advised not to by his agent) then we lose him for nothing.

Celtic Management hilarity thread
alexscottislegend replied to Jim White's topic in General Football Chat
My God, that was quick. Seems Traynor's opinion in the Record did the trick. Only problem is: who would take the job? Obvious candidates are Lambert (who has ruled himself out seemingly) and John Collins. Either way, it's good news for us. -
Post -bollocks shabbyism - love that.

Andy - I well remember that Orwell essay. I think he was referring to the hi-jacking of sport by the Nationalist/right wing lobby. In which case he was right. The Gers v Dynamo match was ill-tempered and we were unlucky to have got only a draw (ref. Hugh Taylor "We Are the People.") What I am puzzled by is the assertion/inference that he would ever be attracted to the Parkhead school of political correctness. During the Spanish civil War, he maintained a remarkably impartial status, though clearly his sympathies were with the POUM (the Trotskyist wing of the Spanish workers). You need to revisit 'Homage to Catalomia."

He's cetainly a better defender than Broadfoot. If Bougie stays, then we're sorted for CB; choose two from bougie, wilson (he MUST stay) and Webster.

London Based Property Developers and Rangers
alexscottislegend replied to chilledbear's topic in Rangers Chat
So how will it emerge? It would be very difficult for the papers not to get wind of something before it is actually signed and sealed. -
Remember him well. Was no worse than McCloy IMO. 1972 was my proudest time of being a Gers supporter, the Barcelona aftermath notwithstanding.
-
Why is John Fleck not in either the U21 or the full squad? He may not have been brilliant but was still worth a place for his potential IMO.
-
So you're saying this sort of thing goes on elsewhere as well? And it's just our scummy media who choose to highlight it? That may be a the case but I think we - and Mac - don't need all this baggage. In another town he would be more anonymous. Remember a similar thing happening to Robert Fleck. I just think that it's becoming too much of a distraction - WS must be tearing his hair out. MCG can bring in some cash and maybe avoid getting seriously hurt. Sad but true.

Can't see how McG can be blamed in any way for this. He was at a party for a player from the dark side; you might think that was unwise, but it's always been known that players from both sides socialise. Sadly, I think it's time for him to move away from Glasgow and the infamous 'goldfish bowl.' Why doesn't this happen in Manchester or Newcastle or Liverpool - they're not too big to be goldfish bowls.

Showing your age there, mate. Ah, the old M&B partnership.
