McGregor, the BBC, SFA and the wider implications
alexscottislegend replied to Norris Cole's topic in Rangers Chat
Much as I hate to see any of our good players being sold, I could understand him going if a good offer is received. We have a good replacement and the cash may help us to fund purchases for more needy positions. -
Takes a couple of accountants to put me right. Cheers, chaps.

I just meant that that big clubs have huge debts yet banks rarely seem to threaten them with calling in their debts - they seem to pick on the small fry. You don't seriously suggest that L'pool could ever go to the wall?
-
What they owe the taxman is chickenfeed compared to what Liverpool owe the bank and the taxman, yet they are likely to get away with it because they are a much bigger institution than a small 'family' club.
-
well, you just ask them if they support Amsterdam or Rotterdam:) Read the headed letter from Ibrox; look at the gates - RANGERS FC
-
Crikey! I've actually got 3 of those and they are all in mint condition. Funny thing is, I don't want to sell them - unless I get offered silly money.

I assure you I know my history. Can't help feeling there's a bit of disingenuousness at work here: some folk don't like FoS because they assume a linkage to republicanism. Now, I happen to believe that the Union has benefited Scotland (the Darien fiasco being one example of that), but if somehow there was a democratic vote for real independence I'd accept it and still be Scottish. What I can't fathom is this craven devolution lark - it does not make us a real nation, it actually dilutes us - it makes us feel like the teenager who wants to leave home but still brings his washing home for Mother England to do. Wandered off the point I know. What I'm trying to say is that sung sincerely FoS is genuinely moving; it may not indicate a past that some would like, but our history is what it is. Prince Charlie received no support from Glasgow but there is something almost uniquely Scottish about glorious failure. It's always been a matter of conjecture for me what some Rangers supporters would do if there was an independent Scotland - would we cease to fly the Union Jack? One thing's for sure - I will still be a RANGERS supporter:)

Scotland squad v Czech Republic/Spain
alexscottislegend replied to Gazza_8's topic in General Football Chat
Yeh, what a sad comment that is. Think virtually all professional sport is ruined now as well. -
We were named after an English Rugby club called simply The Rangers. When the English use the adjective 'Glasgow' it is seemingly to distinguish us from those upstarts, Queens Park Rangers. Why not 'London' or even 'Woolwich Arsenal'? Because they are famous enough in their own right. So it should be with us. And just for the record, I'm equally unhappy with Glasgow Keltic. In the song it is only used because it wouldn't scan otherwise:)

McLaren is quite a sensible suggestion actually. Keegan I like but he has shown he can't hack it when the pressure is cranked up, plus he's no tactician. Hoddle just might be persuaded to leave Spain though. Sad thing is I think we're stuck with Levein. Pains me to say it as I thought he was a strong character. Bloody-minded more like. -

Cannot disagree with anything said. But Levein was brought in because of Burley's awful man-management; who could we possibly get now? I've heard clamour for Souness but (1) he wouldn't want the job; and (2) he would alienate some players due to his abrasive style - remember his treatment of Graham Roberts? -
So well known it has to be prefaced with "Glasgow". Take a look at what it says on the Ibrox gates - the 'Rangers'. You never hear of 'London' Arsenal.

Some years ago when my uncle who started me off as a Gers supporter came back from Australia he heard Flower of Scotland for the first time and declared: "anyone with a drop of Scots blood in them would not fail to be moved by it." The hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I hear it sung properly -i.e by the Corries. Forget the Jacobite nonsense. Maybe you would prefer if Scotland was officially renamed England (which is what pre-war history books call it) and we had a GB team which would very quickly be called England as soon as it played at wembley. I'm proud to be British but I'm Scottish first.
-
Is that the same "wee chunt" that we pursued relentlessly a few seasons back? If so, good riddance.
-
That means we will have a midfield pairing of Edu and McCulloch! I hope the players stand close to each other as there is no one in that team who can pass more than 5 yards. Suppose Weis could play there but not sure WS will give him a shot.
-
Article suggests he is a sort of wide player who can score a goal or two. But what I'm wondering is: he is not a full international for Algeria, so how could he get a work permit? Thought you had to play for your country if you were non-EU. Or is he on a French passport?

Accommodating Fleck, Jelavic, Miller and Weiss
alexscottislegend replied to Stimpy's topic in Rangers Chat
In theory - stress, in theory - that's some team, but as others have said, the likes of Fleck have still to realise their potential. I also think it's time for Naismith to show that the undoubted potential he showed at Kilmarnock is much more than just that. -
Can Scottish football sink any lower.
alexscottislegend replied to wabashcannonball's topic in Rangers Chat
All you people calling for his head should first think about (a) who would want the job; and (b) who is available that we could afford. Levein may be the best of the rest. Billy Davies anyone? Craig Broon? -
Great post but you tell your kids to "GTF" if they won't let you listen to 'Jazz Record Requests'.
-
Stick in Adam and Boyd and Webster and we could have a complete team with the exception of D. Fletch.

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/shittu-link-to-celtic-move-1.1052721 Oh, what a shame, what a crying, crying shame that Rafael Scheidt left a few years back.
-
Who is 'big jig'? And whence the source of his nickname?
-
That's the point; it may just be bad luck, but he is still young enough to recover, but his performances for Utd showed he is one of the best Scottish centre halves around.
-
Hopefully this now means the end of Lafferty and Naismith on the wing. Just hope that Fleck gets a look in as an attacking midfielder. If Jelavic comes, then Velicka and Lafferty would be surplus to requirements.
