  1. Phew!! That could have been us. We simply MUST do well this season in the CL as Scottish clubs may lose their automatic status in future.
  2. Get your point about John Barnes (born in Jamaica of Jamaican parents) but Le Tissier was born in the Channel Islands. What was his nationality? It's only a gentlemen's agreement prevents them playing for any other home nation, so I think england claimed then on the grounds that they were resident and played their carrers in England. On that basis we could go for Novo and they could have Almunia. On the whole you're right - who would want to end up like the RoI? What a joke team.
  3. Saw this guy have a not too bad game against a strong Italian side. He started on the right wing then took Healy's place in the centre. Given that he can also play centre half, I would think that Walter could find a slot for him somewhere. Seriously, he's now played more games for NI than he has for us. Not saying he should be a key player for us, but he has gathered experience now and surely he could fill a gap in the squad - or are there some 35 year olds out there who would be ahead of him in the queue? I honestly don't mind if we sign nobody this summer - provided we give the youths a PROPER chance to show they can plug any gaps. Would love to see a Rangers squad with the nucleus of home-grown players; maybe 5 and the rest made of experienced signings. Remember ManU and the Beckham/Scholes contingent?
  4. Ally - it IS relevant because the old pre-MP argument went that we could not develop youngsters because of the poor facilities; now that we have good facilities (for all squads not just youth) then we should be able to attract good quality with the promise of earlier promotion to first team than would be possible at say Manure or Arsenal. Take a look at the columns of The Herald this week - it's full of names that could develop into 'stars.' So why aren't they being given the chance? I just cannot accept that it's because they are no good.
  5. So how come Man U and Arsenal keep producing youngsters when they also spend money on the arshavins and Berbatovs? It must be a damn sight more difficult to get into their team/squads. Considering tha lack of cash available to us we should be the no. 1 destination for any smart young player. Or is the coaching standard at Murray Park to be found wanting? In that case what's the point of Kenny McDowall? Thought he was meant to be great with young players.
  6. If this is true it's profoundly depressing. Another youth player not given a chance. All right he may not have turned out to be any good, but why are we rearing players for other clubs? Take Ross McCormack as an example.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong but if they fail, then doesn't that harm Scotland's co-efficient, which means we could face qualifying rounds the season after next? If Scotland's automatic CL place goes, it will almost impossible for us or any Scottish side to qualify. You won't like me saying it but we need THEM to do well -along with all Scottish sides.
  8. Agreed. Never thought I would be saying that when Cuellar was touted for a move (thought he was irreplaceable) but as Craig says, Bougie is better in the air, quicker and gives us an attacking option.
  9. Thank God they didn't win after what they said about us in Manchester.
  10. Christ man, are you talking about Andrea Bocelli? One of the greatest tenors around? You're probably one of those people who think Susan Boyle is sensational!
  11. Looks like Messi in that clip! But seriously he has a good track record at Sheff. Wed and WBA of scoring and can play LM or striker.
  12. Ha! Ha! Amazing how we can be so magnanimous in victory.:spl:
  13. And this could be the last year we get the chance of automatic qualification, so we need to up our seeding position. As do all the other Scottish clubs. If the co-efficient is not improved, any future champions could find themselves having to play 2 CL qualifiers with the likes of Shaktar or an EPL club in the way.:spl:
  14. As a Rangers fan, none of the names mentioned would strike fear into me, except Moyes and maybe Coyle - but they won't get either of them. Not that I care overly, but why was John Collins' name not mentioned? Is he not Celtic-minded enough for them?
  15. I note Norris that you don't still want Walter to "get out of my club"
  16. See where you're coming from but with the players we have and the ones we face in the CL I reckon most managers would take a defensive approach (and it DID get us to a European final). If we lose WS then we have to see who is available and sadly there are just not that many candidates who are better at the moment. Until we know who could be likely to take the job, I'd rather stick with him than give the post to someone who may not be as good.
  17. [QUOTE=Whosthedado;151540]Fantastic way to win the Title and brilliant team performance. Even Alexander had a couple of decent stops even one near the end when it was 3-0. Papac was outstanding for me though Glad so many of you are picking out Papac. The way this guy makes last-ditch tackles again and again, comes across to cover his centre backs, and just rarely makes a mistake, has convinced me that we probably won't get a better LB. If we could graft Whittaker's attacking capability on to his defending, we would have a multi-million pound player!
  18. Makes you wonder if the two Jimmies could ever be an option for us. JC has shown some competence in Europe; makes you wonder what he could do with better resources. I'd say if he makes a go of things with a good Championship club then he'd be a possibility for us in the future. We don't have too many ex-Rangers doing well just now, with the likes of John Brown and Gough not developing their coaching careers the way I thought. Suppose the best at the moment is Derek McInnes.
  19. I'm still raging at commentator Ian Crocker. Lost count of the number of times at the start of the match he referred to Lafferty's "disgraceful behaviour." Yes, yes, we know but the club took action against him (unlike C****c with the Boruc/McGeady incident). It's quite clear he is not an unbiased commentator. So I loved it when Laff scored after 6 minutes, causing me to spill some of my Champions Ale. Poor Lafferty will get dogs abuse at every away ground now, yet what he did was out of character. And Mendes! He only scores peaches. This time left foot (note how he steadied himself before picking out his spot), last time right foot. These occasional moments of class are what sorts us out from the rest. My non-football loving English-born wife couldn't understand why a grown man had tears streaming down his face long before the final whistle.
  20. Absolutely hilarious. You couldn't get that banter anywhere else.
  21. Preferably as a result of a Zaluska error. And perhaps Samaras conceding an own goal. for good measure. And please God, if you can arrange it, Lafferty score to please the sheep?
  22. What a great quote from WS - it's absolutely Struthian! Regardless of what you think about his management decisions, when it comes to dignity and discipline matters he's almost without peer. A point we should bear in mind when considering any possible successor.
