Banker running Rangers threatens administration
alexscottislegend replied to Gazza_8's topic in Rangers Chat
So the club were actually lying in the 'official' statement when they said we did not have to sell players in the January window? If we are as bad as that then the sooner they go the better.- 19 replies

Darrell King's article in The Herald
alexscottislegend replied to Tannochsidebear's topic in Rangers Chat
I just have one question here - a couple of seasons ago our debts were supposed to be lessening, thanks to the Champions League money and I thought that as long as we kept qualifying/having a run we were keeping our heads above water. All right, there would be little money for new players but it did not sound like the doomsday scenario. So what changed? Was it the Kaunas result? Did the Eufa run count for nothing?- 30 replies

He scored that wonder goal v Sporting Lisbon from the right back position, and has contributed a lot more goals than Hutton.
-
You sure about that? I thought he hated the OF (sorry MF for bracketing them together) equally because of dodgy decisions given v his team. that said, I think he lacks the dignity we would want to see from a Gers boss.
-
Shame on our coaching staff if we couldn't get his fitness levels up.
-
He would be a brilliant appointment but I guess financially he is out of our league. But at least it shows there are candidates.

Our best players are Weir, Fleck'n' Rothen! Sorry nicked that from another forum.

Is that the Alan Irvine who was an Everton winger, or his namesake who was an ex-Falkirk Centre Forward? I'm never quite sure. Think they both played for Everton.

Hear! Hear! And I still the remember the shock I felt the day he was sacked. Never quite took to Davie White though.

Boro set to name Strachan as boss
alexscottislegend replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
Just serves the ungrateful Bheasts right - it was only a matter of time before a big club came in for him. They didn't appreciate what they had at the time, and now look who they have instead! -
Nacho seems to be better coming off the bench; it's as if he has something to prove, and I'd want to keep that. He has started on occasion, but never with the same effect as a sub.
-
Not advocating it, but I've heard worse suggestions.
-
And the fact that they don't care must be because they have no faith in the management. I once sat and suffered when we lost 1-0 at home to Morton in the pre-Souness era. The manager was one Jock Wallace and the crowd was - 5,000. We're heading that way again. Just because we are managed by a legend doesn't mean he doesn't have a sell-by date. I'm wondering about Lawrie Sachez. What's he doing these days? Wee Dick's still a fan according to him. Surely we could find the money?
-
You are an example to all supporters; that's what being a gers fan is all about. But it's also about pride - and we just cannot accept that level of performance. And not just a freak result, either. St. Johnstone and Motherwell should have beaten us.

Been constant rumours about Mendes and 'Arry saying he never wanted to lose him. I think Lafferty could be snapped up by the likes of Burnley, Hull, that sort of club. My point is they are being made to look worse than they actually are. No player deliberately plays badly for us. Do they:(?
-
In the recent international v Poland Lafferty was outstanding against Borat and a team of East Europeans at least comparable to Urinea FC. He is not the finished article but why does he play crap for us? Ditto Mendes the new saviour of Portugal. More I think about it the more I see we have some good players: if they were up for sale they would be snapped up by probably EPL clubs. So back to the question why? Has to be the manager, surely? No mistake. Last time I felt as humiliated as this was when we got dumped 3-0 in the Texaco Cup by Chesterfield. That far back. Let's be positive. Start thinking about alternatives to Walter.

Mystery as Madjid Bougherra fails to return from qualifier
alexscottislegend replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I meant that one minute he was saying how much he loved the club, was wanting to stay, then the next he's offski. Ok, may not totally have been his doing, but I wonder if he's now regetting his move to Villa - he doesn't always play. -

Yep, it's worringly similar to some of the contradictory nonsense we had with Cuellar. Fe. fi, fo fum.. I smell the blood of an agent. -

My award for the metaphor of the year. Brilliant! -
So none on ESPN? Not all of us have a sky dish! No point in subscribing to Freeview then.
-
The OF game on Sunday is not scheduled to be on ESPN! We used to moan about Setanta but at least they always showed all the OF clashes.

It' s the same with any competition, any league. If Man U. can't win in normal time they are generally given up to six minutes to do so. How often does that happen?

Our 1st half performances away from home
alexscottislegend replied to Gazza_8's topic in Rangers Chat
During the 9IAR era, I seem to remember Paul Gascoigne saying that Rangers were expected to win the game in the first 45, something he'd never experienced in his career. He made this in response to English journalists who seemed to think that joining Rangers was an easy option. As he said, that was some pressure to play under. I know what you're going to say, that we don't have players of that quality now. Nonetheless, we do have Mendes and Davis, experienced EPL players and surely better than anything Killie have in their respective positions. But we fail to put these teams to the sword. Must be mental problem. Don't we have these fancy sports psychologists at Ibrox? -
Rangers - Upholding the hopes of Scottish football
alexscottislegend replied to Super_Ally's topic in Rangers Chat
A very good point. When we had the likes of Laudrup and Gascoigne we under-achieved big-time, much more proportionally than now. I also remember a bad defeat by AEK Athens. Not quite sure what all this proves though. Was Europe not important to us then? -
Given that Seville will probably beat the other teams home and away (even Stuttgart) our best chance of finishing second is to get one more point off them than Stuttgart. So even a home draw would be good, then we can play our famous 5-4-1 backs-to-the-wall anti-football in Seville and see what happens. The really crucial game will be home to Stuttgart (remember Lyon).
