  1. Not for the first time recently I don't understand the point of this statement. Surely any serious bidders will be engaged in official talks with Lloyds, so the subject of the price will be one of those ongoing items for discussion? Bizarre really. Why would/should Lloyds come out and state a price? Its not going to benefit anyone. Mike.
  2. i'd be surprised if any genuinely-interested and serious consortium would be able to keep things from the press tbh. Scotland is a very small country and as such its very hard to keep anything like this under wraps. Would love to be pleasantly surprised though While we all know there's next to no money in Scottish football, whoever buys our club just now, assuming they are able to actually clear the debt, must have a good base to build on? Just thinking that over the last few years, since the cost-cutting started under McLeish, we have a very strict wage structure in place, so its not like our spending is out of control all over the place. Could someone buy the club and make a real go of it? Mike.
  3. I can't see where Wilson would expect to go and get first team football at as big a club as we are just now. He's still very young and learning his trade, but surely must see that with our financial difficulties and threadbare squad, he'll never get a better chance to establish himself as a first team player. Premier League clubs may be interested, but I can't see what he'd have to benefit from going elsewhere at this stage in his career apart from more money. Mike.
  4. Thanks for that Frankie, I recognise the name but don't know anything about him, will have a look online. Out of those 5 players I guess only Beasley is the one who would naturally play as a left sided midfielder/winger although Smith has played there at times. Where is Fleck's preferred position, is it just in behind the striker? Mike.
  5. Do we not have a young left-sided midfielder or winger coming through who we could "blood" in the next few games? I know we already have a few of the younger guys in the squad, but if we are going to be relying more and more on them, I think its a good chance to bring one of them in rather than playing someone else out of position again? Mike.
  6. I don't for one second believe that Bain would be allowed to officially offer any sort of contract to Boyd unless it had been authorised by whoever is running things. There's been so many stories over the last week or so about Boyd, mainly from "sources" or the "we understand" type that its boring. I know as a support, we're inclined to believe certain stories if they suit how we're feeling at the time, but the papers are loving this mess we're in and revelling in it. Mike.
  7. Personally I hope we stick with two up top and it gives an opportunity to someone like Naismith to show what they can do in their preferred position instead of being put on on the left wing. Cheers, Mike.
  8. Another problem with this, apart from the massive support SDM has amongst a large amount of our fans still, is that this sort of thing "isn't the Rangers way". That's always brought up on some other forums when organised protest is mentioned. Mike.
  9. I have to say I'm wondering just what it would take for our fans to actually boycott the club and season tickets in any sort of reasonable number, whether through an organised protest or a more spontaneous show of their anger at the direction of the club?
  10. Usual spin from the press and not sure what exactly Edgar was hoping to achieve with that one. What I can't understand is why the various fans' groups haven't combined to form a single voice for supporters. That's the only hope we have going forward of presenting a united front and common message to the media, club, other supporters etc. Mike.
  11. Its been funny to see the Boyd love-in on some of the other forums over the last few weeks, all his critics seem to have disappeared, but I bet it won't be long before they're back. Surprised he didn't get pelters after not scoring at the weekend actually.
  12. Sorry Calscot, I meant to say that nothing much has changed for him in terms of reasons for him to leave. Its not like things have got worse for him, everything is looking rosy at the moment. Is it not parity he's after with Miller & Lafferty in terms of wages? Plus being at Ibrox. Maybe he turned the Brummie deal down because 17k a week was a poor offer compared with other players there, but he'd be happy on 17k a week up here. Mike.
  13. Would it necessarily increase the asking price? Its not like being in the CL is a cure-all - the debt is still going to be there, but it might give us and any new investors/buyers more options. Everything I've read points to the fact that unless SDM can bail us out again, but properly, by paying off the debt and not just in terms of re-financing debt for equity or moving money/debt around his other companies, he's no other choice but to sell. Even without the bank stuff, there's been a noticeable change in the attitude and stance of Martin Bain for example since SDM stepped back, which makes me think he really isn't calling the shots anymore and just wants rid. He's still a very successful businessman though who needs to answer to shareholders, so he needs to get the best deal he can from a financial point of view and yes, I do think he does genuinely care who the club gets sold to.
  14. I wonder how much he is on actually, I don't think it'll be 30k a week, but I'm guessing he's one of our higher earners which should free up money for a Bosman/loan or to go towards a new contract for Boyd? Mike.
  15. If Boyd wanted to go he'd have gone last time Birmingham were interested. Nothing much has changed and he seems to still be improving his game, so I don't really see why much has changed for him. We don't need to sell, so he won't be forced out. Its not going to harm his case to stay and he clearly loves the club and if rumours are to be believed he's not keen on a move away from his home anyway. You can see why he is a target for English clubs though as they could sign him for 3-4M, double his wages and that's a very cheap signing for them. If he scores goals down there at even half the rate he does up here, that will be an absolute bargain for a number of clubs. Its also been mentioned a few times that he's happy to play on with the understanding that a new contract will be offered as soon as it can be. While the tabloids will love that or the suggestion he can now sign a pre-contract with anyone, he's done nothing so far to suggest he's not loyal to our cause. Mike.
  16. Time is going on though, I'm wondering if any of the potential buyers are now waiting to see if we retain the title, thereby guaranteeing another CL income which could make a significant difference to the financial package they'd have to propose? Mike.
  17. I think that's OK money for Mendes tbh. He's been a massive disappointment for me and I think we should take the cash and run. Given we're in the SPL and our financial situation is well known, its not like we'd get much more for him at any point in the future. Maybe some of the money or saved wages will allow us to do something, but even if not, its more money in at a time when we need it. Should be be surprised by how Mendes has played? He just seems to have lived up to that stereotypical European player who is talented but too often the game just passes him by and if things aren't going his way he just disappears instead of grafting his way back in to it. Mike.
  18. I take it there will be the same outcry about Dod's behvaiour as there was when Lafferty pulled a similar trick at the end of last season? Good news we're appealing, but I guess the problem is that there was intent on Miller's behalf.
  19. There were mumblings of discontent pretty soon after Burley took over, so I don't think anyone was surprised when things started to go off the rails. I'm also a Scotland supporter, but I find it pretty depressing to see the attitude towards many of our players from fellow Scotland fans just because of who they play for. As far as they're concerned, its just an extension of league business where they find any reason they can to slag our club and players off. Are their really that many Scottish Gers fans who support England or is that another one of those myths that's grown arms and legs? Mike.
  20. A couple of us mentioned this on another thread, a lot of the TA (Jambos in particular) have been giving Weir dogs abuse recently, but only since he signed for us. Go figure. Mike.

Pretty sure we can't recall him, but if he carries on playing well for United and keeping injury-free, I'd have him as a first-team pick next season if he wants to come back.
  22. I know what you're saying Pete, but I think its got to the point where the feeling of the TA towards him couldn't get any lower, so there's no harm in speaking to the press about it. I think its a fairly level-headed statement and when he did quit, I thought he handled himself quite well in the press, whereas Burley acted like an immature schoolboy who'd just been dumped, instead of an international manager. His revelations about "boozegate" are hardly that as its been rumoured for ages that there were others involved that night so it shouldn't come as any surprise. Again though, there's a real hatred towards our players from fans of all other clubs, so trying to get a fair hearing for stuff like this is impossible. I thought the SFA and Burley handled the whole thing very badly indeed, but Ferguson and Mcgregor were idiots doing the v-signs thing on the bench, talk about giving their detractors perfect ammunition for them. Of course it was then overblown in the media and then by other fans, but both players should have been mature enough to realise that in the first place. Cheers, Mike.
  23. To be fair, he appears to have a grudge against most teams and refs whenever things don't go his way. Which on one hand isn't a bad thing for any manager, especially when dealing with the SFA. I think its a risky move for him to take the job though and it will either be the making of him or could finish his career at the top level for a good while to come. Who else is out there just now who would take the job and who the SFA could afford though Fraser? The FAI managed it but had a lot of money to spend, I don't know if the SFA are in a position to do that.
  24. A couple of posts on FF reckon that we've been scouting the Motherwell keeper for a while now and that we've even asked The Goalie to watch him and report back for us. Not been overly impressed with Weaver tbh. Another one of those keepers who has been supposedly destined for great things but never realised his potential. Strange to see us being linked with anyone at the moment, especially keepers. Would any of these guys give up their number 1 jersey to come and be number 2 at Ibrox?
  25. Have you been on here during a transfer window?
