Fair do's to Paterson, he makes an excellent analyst of the game. Shame he was mince as a player for us, tho I believe injury played a part in that.

I don't so much mind there being loads of celtc fans in the media atm - there were loads of Bluenoses in it for years, after all, and fair's fair - it's the standard slipping so much I object to. Only yesterday Spiers took to Twitter, it seems, to call fans angry with Spence 'the stasi'. An especially nasty secret police from communist East Germany, I imagine der Berliner will take this crack in the light hearted spirit it was intended. I mean, what could be wrong with using a bunch of torturers and murderers who spied on an entire nation for 40 years as an analogy for angry football fans? Any decent writer would immediately reach for such a comparison when mulling over the situation. And he (Spiers, that is) is the only half decent writer to have come through in the last decade and a half. Tells you a lot about the rest of them when he's the benchmark! Spiers is often to be found lambasting West of Scotland man for having an issue with Irishness which, say, New York or Sydney doesn't. The obvious reason for this - that we're rather too close to the grim reality to buy into the leprechaun beards and Guinness hat mythology - doesn't excuse bigotry, but it does make his use of another cultural group as shorthand for lunacy somewhat hypocritical.

It wouldn't be so much an emasculation of the big two clubs as much as a transfusion of some of their resources into the moribund clubs, Zappa. Like in the old 'Mummy' movies, when the professor unwisely injects said bandaged cadavar with a vital essence, giving him renewed vigour.

I can't speak for the Rangers stuff as I don't have any, but I use Puma gear a lot for cycling in the summer (knock-down cheap AEK Athens and the like strips from TK Maxx etc) and tbh they have coped with my sweaty, portly frame just fine. I mean, I really work them, but they've held up well.

I can't recall who is was Norwich played first up but I'm sure Whittaker was at fault for a goal they lost. Attacking wise he's doing very well I agree but he can't defend at that level for toffee.

That's a good piece. Why the other clubs didn't seize their chance to really shake up the game for the better - after all, they have bleated about Old Firm dominance for long enough - I will never understand. It looks like the chance has completely gone now, and we face another couple of decades of declining product watched by fewer and fewer people. Horrah for Scottish football!

Impulsive McCoist compiling portfolio of howlers
andy steel replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Goodness me, we must be getting near the end of the boardroom saga/reconstruction of the team period, because the media hoops are turning their fire on McCoist again. If that is real I would sue.- 11 replies

True, but he's getting his arse ripped by them week in week out as well. The only reason he's still in the Norwich team is that he's a decent attacker. He's a strange player, not good enough to be a right winger not quite good enough to be a full back either, but easily good enough to play internationally and in one of the world's best leagues. Weird.

No problem to do the Forfar game. -
Passed a wallah wearing the Laudrup-Durie Cup FInal strip t'other day, it holds up well.

Hard to see many marquee Premiership players fancying the Scottish Third, anyhow.

Hutton's season in La Liga looked to have done him a power of good. The last game I saw him in (Croatia, I think) he looked back to his old best, rather than the clogger the EPL seemed to change him into. I hope he gets another move to a footballing league.

Maybe used to be under the different leagues, but you'd think that after all the fuss about reconstruction they would have a standardised set of rules in place. Then again, this is the SPFLPSLLFLP.

Leggat - JOHN GREIG AND LEGENDS’ SHAMEFUL SILENCE
andy steel replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I reckon we all know that the email is being used to weaken Mr Irvine, not to protect John Greig. I have no issue with that, but there's no point being two faced about it.- 9 replies

What would be even more interesting would be a breakdown by club of players & managers who have been cited since Mr Lunny took office. No prizes for guessing who'll be right at the arse end of that table.
-
Much food for thought there, TRPB. You could well be right.

I see on Frankie's Twitter feed at the side that Chris Graham and others are taking this to the next level. FWIW I would beseech them not to. You need to pick your battles - when VB got their apology about Pacific Quay's coverage, they also let them off the hook by complaining about institutionalised bias, which the panel were never going to agree with. Same with this - an employee's language has been publicly disparaged in response to complaints. Taking it any further will only result in rebuffal and rejection, allowing the idiot to say he has been exonerated when, as it stands, he's been bollocked for being a tool. File it under a tiny victory, but one well worth filing away nevertheless.
-
Come on, that seems like a fairly blatant boot in the stones for the idiot. You won't get much better than that and I'd be inclined to view it as a victory.

If one group ousted another group, the fighting would never cease - just look at Paul Murray. If the shareholders en masse vote out one group and vote in another, we pretty much have to deal with it. A democratic vote is the best way forward and should be done relatively soon. I don't quite get why you think it should have been done by now, because the people I'd like to see removed were not going to go quietly or without a fight. I actually think the present set up is as bloodless as it could be, assuming it goes all the way. Who knows, some incumbents may decide 'time to get out of Dodge'.

If only, uni does its best to stifle any sort of imaginative use of language whatsoever! Academic writing, I won't be sorry to see the back of it. Btw, some fair tasty bites in that photey above.
