  1. On BT Sport1 this morning (Friday), Melbourne Victory are playing Perth Glory in the A-League. Melbourne are managed by Kevin Muscat, ex-Rangers left back, and Perth by Ally Edwards, ex-Rangers reserve striker of the late 80's. Round, round, get around, we get around....
  2. You'll never convince me of that. Anyhoo, I'm not going to start another boring, pointless, yes it is/no it isn't farrago. Suffice it to say I hold this weaselly attempt to deny our actions in the 80's and 90's (dunno about the 70's, too young) in total contempt. I know what I was singing about back in the day, so you may take your certainties and whistle Dixie!
  3. 1- Hopefully not, I would rather not write anything than have it on RM. 2- Plainly I don't speak for Gersnet, even before Frankie's reply. But the quickest, most surefire way to get rid of the posters on this board is to turn it into a sub forum of Rangersmedia.
  4. I've seen that, Spence is on it. While a tit, he's hardly a celtc fan. Seems to be just anyone who has crossed swords with Rangers over the last wee while.
  5. Not in my experience, but who's to say whether that's representative or not? Growing up in the 80's, anything & everything Irish was considered linked to the IRA and therefore suspect. Last week's news about the Irish police leaking info to the IRA seems to back the suspicions up, mind you! I suppose, like this 'when we say UVF we mean the army' crap we now have to suffer, people will claim that they don't hate the Irish, it was only the IRA. Not how I remember it. <shrug>
  6. Jakeyman!!!! Armed only with his Buckfast powered breath, Jakeyman takes on all comers in this City of Devils!! His cry - 'Mon then, ya cunts' - strikes terror into the hearts of peaceful train passengers everywhere!!!
  7. <testily> There's a good reason people use Gersnet and not RM. If anyone wants to read RM posts, could they please log onto RangersMedia?
  8. Sorry for being a sarky bitch. Apologies all round.
  9. Shame on the newspapers for editing out the bit when Lenny added '& I don't like to see banners of terrorists either'. Shame!
  10. I am ready to stand corrected, but I heard that when the req's were declared a 'concert party' (meet the gang cause the boys are here...YOU IS A POOFTER, WHAT IS YOU?? A poofter, sarn't major...) it meant that to buy up shares (as they are frequently berated for not doing) would have meant paying the maximum price the shares had ever been. I'm not sure the sight of Charles et al swanning off with 80p a share, paid for with money that ought to be invested in the club, would have convinced many of the req's financial acumen.
  11. Fair point in reply, Zappa. On a slightly broader point I would use this case as another example of how what society is willing to put up with from football fans is changing very rapidly. Many put it down to the new legislation but I have a feeling - no more than that - that if the question was put to a gathering, say the Womens' Guild or the STUC, do you like or not like the new rules which are hammering football fans the answer would be an emphatic 'like'. We can fight it or change. I can see why people would want to fight it but I think it a losing battle - especially now, since, if Spiers thinks there is something wrong with the legislation, that means it must be dong something right!
  12. Certainly some of our fans are ferociously anti-Irish, but I don't know how you could answer this question definitively without asking everyone individually.
  13. <shrug> What can I say that I haven't bored you with before? I love the club, but what goes with that is the duty to represent the club in a proper fashion in public. So you'll understand when I get mighty pissed off at people who metaphorically put a Rangers shirt on a manky train carriage floor and pish all over it. I dunno. Probably it's me that is over sensitive. But to say we should put up with anti-social behaviour because Rwanda's genocide was worse (or wherever you're referring to)....or to tell people that they should stay at home because Rangers fans are about...that's just giving into to the lowlifes!
  14. There is a little more to it than that, Cal - for a number of people, the sense of belonging they get from being in amongst a big crowd (either us or them) gives them a sense of security and identity they have never achieved anywhere else. There's a number of studies which have shown that of the most committed (vocally) to the Old Firm, a huge majority of them have no active religious life at all. But they love the feeling of belonging somewhere, and since some sections of our and their fan base endorse this kind of thing that's what gets carried forward, generation after generation. Much to do with dysfunctionality of life at the less affluent end of Glasgow and Scottish life. I wish I could link the studies but I suppose they'll be online somewhere. It's the reason why I've banged on for a decade about how if you wear a Rangers scarf and you represent the club, therefore act accordingly. It's about trying to create a new, less obnoxious identity for these people to buy into, which gives them the same sense of belonging but removes any need to include utterly irrelevant socio-religious pish. But to be honest think it's like banging your head against a brick wall because any such move immediately brings down a host of people pointing fingers and crying 'sell-out!' Fair enough some may be acting hard, but I think for others it gives them some kind of meaning to what they feel to be meaningless lives.
  15. Curious. I wasn't even aware I was having an argument.
  16. Your point? It's not about the point you were making, it's about the point Chibmark was making. You replied to Chibmark's post saying 'that's not the point'. I replied to yours saying that the point was about singing about terrorists and it sucks. Since he clicked both 'agree' and 'thank' I took that to suggest that, yes, that was the point he was making. Now, you may be right and Chibmark himself failed to understand the point he was making...I think that a bit far fetched.
  17. I'm a bit surprised that Creighton is getting a no vote - what has he done/not done that I've missed? Also a bit surprised that the two Murray's are getting such a high yes vote. I confess I voted no to both - I think Paul will prove divisive (not his fault, but it's 'for the best of the club' we're looking at) and Malcolm...he just sounds like a twat whenever I've heard him on radio. had enough of no class or dignity for a while, thanks.
  18. I guess the sheriff felt that, as well as applying the legal punishment of whatever community service involves, he'd hit them somewhere a bit more close to home, by taking away their fitba. I know which would hurt me more, certainly.
  19. Yes, there's nothing quite like taking your family on a train of a Saturday (they give free travel to kids at the weekend on Scotrail) and have some people in the next seats belting out football songs. It really makes the journey complete, I feel.
  20. Leaving Gersnet protocol to one side for a moment...Cretin.
  21. Yes, that really is the point - celebrating terrorists in song is absolutely equal, whether you wear a blue or a green scarf, and equally disgusting. You'll need to tell me what the add-on is to BMG because I don't know what it is. After that I'll be able to tell you whether I'm really trying to argue that or not.
  22. You might. I don't. If and when we get the club free from the threat of extinction I might start bothering about the tims again, but not before. Priorities, that's all.
  23. I've no problem with the world taking no notice of Rangers. My problem is with someone taking no notice of Rangers and then getting a job there. We don't have the luxury of allowing people to bed themselves in gently, I'm afraid! It's 'in at the deep end', and if you need a month to learn to swim you are, bluntly, of little use.
