I can see why many wouldn't want a celtc fan in charge, though I wouldn't be especially bothered if it meant 20th, never mind 21st, century football at Ibrox. But the main issue has to be whether there will be any football to moan or cheer about - after that's sorted, we can bleat about whoever's in the dug out.

Kenny Shiels isn't a bad call, at least we would be playing football. God knows what he'd be like with the board & media though.

Ex-Rangers star Jamie Ness opens up on being Ibrox 'rebel'...
andy steel replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
If the main breadwinner in your family (I imagine his Dad) is diagnosed with a potentially terminal illness, then yes, moving anywhere for what was presumably a lot of money to assure your family's security would be the best thing to do. We're straying into complete fantasy here, with people calling Ness out for doing what they would have done as well. Tbh I had forgotten all about him so he can rest easy about any phobias about abuse, from me anyway. -
I don't mean to pick on Bearger in particular, but a good few people online are coming out with statements like But we don't know what he's playing at now. Therefore to make the sweeping claim that it (SuperCooper) the claim (Bearger again, sorry) is a ridiculous fantasy. Other people can believe what they like, but to claim dissent from their view is 'stupid' is, well, stupid.

I was happy for about half a second when I read this, then I just got sad. I hope the scenario is resign -> in charge tonight -> gets one last Super Ally for the good times -> leaves. What a horrible time it's been.

It's not possible that the club could be run so badly by accident. Why, though? When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

I think you're maybe expecting a bit much from the staff at Rangers. It's not us who's had to endure the constant threat of unemployment for years, it's not us who has to deal with furious Bears, it's not us who have to run around like a headless chicken trying to keep up with the latest masterplan from the latest face at the top. The very least they deserve is to relax for one afternoon in the year, although I doubt very much if it would be a particularly happy occasion. This gesture will do nothing to keep the club afloat or sink it - it's a cheap, miserable piece of nastiness which, sadly, stands as an all too appropriate totem for the club as a whole: clueless and classless.

It's not possible to criticise them too much. Black in particular has been in a Rangers team for three years, in the lower leagues of Scottish football and he has been consistently rank rotten. Without question the worst player I have ever seen in my 30 years at Ibrox, lack of skill compounded by a the worst attitude in world football. We slam the board and McCoist, quite rightly, for driving away the fans. Some players need to take the blame as well, though.
-
Well, could be. I was meaning supporters' energies and focus. I just assume the board(s) are by default useless so can't see any point in commenting on them; it seems very unlikely that they had anything to do with the original statement.
-
From an understandable but immature and essentially pointless reaction to a loudmouthed oaf to one which might refocus energy on more important matters.

Oh, pffft, dahling. Well short of the standard set by the Open Letter!

Police extend probe into Charles Green ownership
andy steel replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Admittedly true, but from all accounts a fan model could have been backed by Lionel Messi, Pep Guardiola, the Sultan of Brunei and Bill Gates & it would still have been rejected. -
Police extend probe into Charles Green ownership

No, no, man, the fans should have risen as one and acquired the club, using all the financial and corporate nous of the average fitba fan to outwit and outflank hedge funds and venture capitalists, none of whom have much experience in this sort of thing. I think back to my exalted position at the time, filling shelves in Morrison's, and realise I could have done so much more, from there amongt the cheese and yoghurts. We should then have implemented a cross between the Ajax youth system and the Barca tiki-taki passing game to bring glory back to Govan. Whatever else comes out of all of this, you can bet the narrative will be that it was our own fault. -
Bit spooked to read accounts of our imminent demise, since I blogged on that subject last week. Deeply uncomfortable being in bed with these people. Posting links to your own blog is a bit pathetic but I can't c&p due to the images. http://andypendek.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/the-unbearable-lightness-of-being-blue.html

Competition: Win an Official 2015 Rangers Calendar
andy steel replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Here's McCulloch letting an Alloa player away to score! Here's Bell in the treatment room! Here's Macleod looking dizzy as he's shifted between left, right & centre midfield! Here's McGregor being shunted to RB for a walking timebomb! And don't forget those thrilling images of Boyd missing another one on one, Law's famous invisible man routine and a whole series of Ian Black whining at players, referees and bookmakers. Anyone who wants a souvenir of this portion of Rangers history is beyond a masochist. -
As opposed to Mr Easdale's involvement, which is entirely down to his philanthropic tendancies, unrivalled business acumen and outstanding ability not to appear like a halfwit when dealing with the media. All should hail the day he decided to help Rangers, of all clubs, out of their problems for without him, who knows, who knows indeed where the club would be today. Ave Imperator, morituri e salutant!

Grier, Withey, Whitehouse & Clark detained in RFC acquisition enquiry
andy steel replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Any return to Oldco would means the fans absolutely MUST take control, for any individual would be unable to deal with the amounts involved. HMRC would be unlikely - hopefully - to pursue a fan owned entity for £100m. -
I doubt if many had much faith in this board idea, but even so, the increasing lack of subtlety with which Rangers, at a 'corporate' level - and that's being kind, they're about as genuinely corporate as Asil Nadir - operate is becoming untenable to support. It's plainly not 'my' Rangers, but if it's not, what is it? Turning the subject, as so often, to myself, I find that these multiple blows are just getting a bit overwhelming. What's left to cling on to that means 'Rangers' that isn't tarnished or corrupted? Goodness knows, as a club, team and fan base there have plenty of daft things done down the years, but which club, team or fan base hasn't? Even so, few can boast of scaling the triple pinnacles of incompetence, stupidity and self interest which 'Rangers' has managed of late. And if I can't support what's coming out of Ibrox, how can I call myself a Rangers supporter? I've never previously been in a position where I dislike Rangers pretty much the same as Celtic, but hats off to them, they've managed it. There is a limit to the level of exploitation, disregard, lying and blatant contempt anyone, surely, can take before a line is crossed and the cry becomes not so much No Surrender but No Never, No More. Club too big to fall, fans too small minded to help it up. What a sorry, sorry state. A complete laughing stock from supporters bus to boardroom. The End is Nigh! In the end, it might be better not to have the immature love for a football club in the psyche, and get on with real life, grim though it can be. I used to like my fitba, though. The Bard said it all, in this little known, deleted scene from Much Ado About Nothing: "Therefore let Rangers, like cover'd fire, Consume away in sighs, waste inwardly: It were a better death than die with mocks, Which is as bad as die with tickling."

Sometimes we can see nefarious goings-on where there might not be any. The overarching idea behind this RFB thing was to create a socio type of link between club & fan. Paying fan, ST fan, not online anonymous greeting face. Therefore, to drive take-up, granting this RFB 'exclusivity' makes sense from their point of view. Added to which is the self interest of some of the board members. No doubt some people inside the club saw and see this as a means to an evil end, but in all truth events have overtaken it - the chances of Ashley being as behind this as Wallace was (even though he left the meeting early, cheers) are zero. The chances of his people giving any meaningful answers to the RFB are zero. The code of conduct was broken even before the minutes were published. It's a busted flush due to events and probably always was in any case. But - if the club wanted to engage before this board existed, they could have done so. If they wanted to engage now, they could do so. Blaming this RFB for this or that group, or this or that fan, not getting a hearing is futile. Put your agenda to one side and, if it's not already too late, worry about what's best for the club rather than your ego.

Rather than assuming this is BH having a go at the RST, it's every bit as possible that this 'don't talk to other groups' is the RM/C-D faction trying to marginalise the UoF-SoS.

Fan board elections now closed as of Saturday 20 September
andy steel replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Uh, I'm not sure. Much as I'd like to say 'same old Rangers' it isn't, for me. Maybe a minority of one but tbf since the nightmare began it hasn't felt the same. Recent events made it worse. I shouldn't be here, really. Sorry.
