With an agility you wouldn't expect from a man of my ample girth, I was out of the bath and parading around the house, playing an imaginary trombone and singing 'Happy days are here again!' while listening to that on the radio. Thank you, Lenny.

We shall see, won't we?

I can't see any good coming from this; Weir will compromise his recovery between domestic matches, while he is neither the future nor, in all truth, good enough at international level, even against the Baltic states. Smacks of panic by Levein. Heaven forfend he ever gets to go up the Marble Staircase.

Spelling 'off' wrongly and quoting FF as a source are unlikely to win you many friends around this forum.

But we have to realise, the top business people don't work in sports, they work in business. I work in retail and God knows, we have the absolute detritus of the management pool ordering us about; football is little different. We expect to attract the best? Unlikely, given the abuse the job entails (not unlike retail, now I think about it). When I was on RM, I wrote a Dr Suess thing about Bain called the Man In the Tan which berated him slightly, but I think over the long term he'd one very well, considering his hands have been tied by either Murray or financial considerations. \We are what we are, he is what he is, that's just how it is .

Why are the press so intent on bigging up Celtic?
andy steel replied to Totti's topic in Rangers Chat
But why do you think the press, gutter or otherwise, would be well served by favouring one side of the Glasgow divide over the other? It makes no sense! Yes, they are poorly written, and yes, they aim at the lowest common denominator but biased? I just can't see it. Radio Scotland is the only body I can see which is actively biased, in that they favour Celtic over all other clubs to a quite astonishing degree. Not anti-Rangers, just so pro-Celtic as to virtually unlistenable. The early season, when the pishy clubs (which includes us now, I suppose!) are staggering about in Europe, is the only time I can listen to them. -
The fantasy world of the football fan! We're going to get humped no matter who we draw.

Because it sells papers, while printing 'Lennon brings in many players, some likely to be shit' will result in lower sales. Flying Hippo's response was feeble, by the way. The Reformation happened 400 years ago, stop worrying. -
Agree with Metlika, from MotD he looks technically sound and would offer something different. Against that, he may be something of a passenger and we can't afford that.

Into, surely?

"quite unusual" being the understatement of the year!

The number of times we're linked with a player, only for it to turn out to be timmy who is in for him, suggested the confusion. It was in answer to Danny's post
-
Why'd you listen to them, then?

Right enough, as Walter has a reputation for bullshitting. If he says it's a bug, that's what it is.

Sounds exactly like the start Hateley had, and he turned out alright. Best of luck, James.

You have to imagine the writers involved just can't tell the difference between Rangers and Celtic when they get a sniff of a story, which rather shows how far both clubs have fallen in recent years.

Dunno why McLeish isn't in for McGeady. And what luck that the journalists found a Moscow fan whose command of English was so good that he could coin the excruciating 'McGreedski' line. Happy coincidence indeed.

If I knew how to embed Youtube, I would put up the Stones "No Expectations". Anything will be a triumph this season, any form of victory in any competition.

I hope not! That would cheer me up muchly.

Crackin player, would hate to see him obver 'there'.

Northampton Loyalist said: Which says it all for me. Magnificent post, NL. No-one is claiming he is some tactical genius but I for one will be heartbroken when this season ends, however it ends, and the man who has been my father figure for nigh on 20 years is no longer there at the Club which has been my substitute family for that and longer. It may be pitiful that a man of 39 relies on someone he's never spoken to, nor ever will, but that's the emotional pull of our Club and I am unwilling to let it go. I love the Rangers, and in turn I love Walter Smith.

If we were in the Championship then his crednentials as a Reading apleyr would have some credence, as it is we live in the SPL and so we need players able to win said title... Hateley may be no Bryan Robson but he would, I feel, help us in a squad capacity to retain the title, while being (as I said in the OP) nowhere near the finished article. But we aren't in a position to sign the finished article, are we? And if we have the finished article, such a player is likelyly to be sold, a la Davis, n'es't pas? We nee dto come ionto the reality. We're only in the larket for the like sof Hateley, so why not get them ASAP rather than later? It's been pointed out he has signed a new deal which I didn't know, thank you for that, but I still think that Motherwell, who are maybe the only side worse off than us, would accept around the 200k mark. Unreal typos. sorry. I have corrected as many as I can/

Excellent draw for Motherwell. Close (ie affordable) and winnable. Dundee Utd were on a hiding to nothing in that draw, so AEK isn't too bad considering, but it's still goodnight Vienna. We'll need to ask our resident Dutch poster about Utrecht, but if the ties are played early enough in season I reckon Johnstone Burgh could bag a few goals against 'their' defence, so you'd hope a top half Dutch outfit could do the same.
