I don't think - just my personal opinion - it would have got this far if there wasn't substance behind it. So I've more or less accepted that we're gonna by hammered for contracts, as well. Easier than hoping for the best and getting yet another booting.

If there was a button for 'qualified agree' I would have clicked it.

Wake up. Open curtains. Get latest news. Groan. Close curtains, hide under bed. How much longer is this going to have go on?

I might be in a minority of one, but I think Smith's group are tactically withdrawing to increase pressure on Mr Green. Seems like a risky strategy to me, mind you, and frankly an unnecessary one. I suppose it depends on whether Charles & Co. were quoting pie-in-the-sky figures and weren't showing any sign of getting real anytime soon.

Whether you like it or not, it's the State which makes the rules regarding taxable contributions and if they change the rules - go after people retrospectively - then that's that, subject only to some kind of judicial review. But the judiciary usually sides with the executive.

Wish I was as confident as you! I actually fear a 'no Rangers at all' scenario coming soon...unthinkable, but potentially possible.

Agree completely. Now that's an episode of 'Come Dine With Me' I would have enjoyed watching.

If you want a concise and impartial analysis of the legal, administrative and financial disaster area that is Rangers FC, you'll have to look elsewhere. I don't understand it, not for a second. Many commentators have said that the Rangers fans should have been asking questions of David Murray a lot sooner; well, after almost a year of revelations about the behind the scenes goings-on at Ibrox, I still can't follow it closely enough to ask a pertinent question, other than 'what were you thinking?' Which I don't feel much need to worry about, because these kinds of things are not why I like football and love The Rangers. As with most fans of most clubs, surely, it's about sweet passing moves, heroic comebacks, rocket free kicks or crushing your rivals. But this head in the sand attitude won't work for Rangers fans anymore, seemingly, as we're being called upon to make an extra statement. One of humility. Fans of other clubs and the estimable Tom English are the main cheerleaders of this campaign. A director of Motherwell claimed the other day that for their arrogance alone Rangers ought to be punished, while Tom has complained of a lack of contrition. When SPL chairman, anonymously of course, brief their chosen journo pals after meetings, this mantra about lack of remorse is rarely far from their lips. I shall address my weighty, self important words to them. Let them quake! Following a club has nothing at all to do with humility. In my everyday working life over the last 22 years, in retail, I have to bow and scrape daily to people I'd happily skelp in the face then drag bodily out of my shop. When dealing with various financial bodies, I am required to submit, as are most of us, detailed personal details of both family and finance. Even when I try to get a holiday the intrusive state demands all sorts of details before it deigns to let me out the country. If you think I'm going to introduce humility to my escape, the football, you've another think coming! I assumed fans of other clubs shared my arrogant love for The Rangers, for their own club obviously. People don't go along to Scottish football for the silky passing or the exciting winger. God knows why they go along, actually, since the product is dire. But go they do, and I have to guess that we do it from a combination of habit, love, and most of all escapism. When a small and ever dwindling number of away fans huddle together for warmth in their corner of Ibrox, it's rare that they do not sing 'they're by faaaaar the greatest team the world has ever known.' Just as my rendition of the same song doesn't make it true - I fancy Barca hardly fear a trip to Glasgow - I assume they believe it as much as I believe it of Rangers, because we want to believe it. It's self deception on a grand scale, but it's essentially harmless and to call for it to be done away with is faintly ludicrous. Since when did arrogance become such a bad thing, anyway? I am enormously and arrogantly proud of my two sons; I don't need the approval of anyone to justify that. Same with the football. If we're to start punishing people for their attitude, perhaps we ought to introduce a scale of penalties for people who show excessive blood lust as well. No? Ah, I see...humility only cuts one way.

Rules, Standards & Sanctions (Prof David Kinnon)

Thanks for that, appreciate it. I don't see why arrogance is suddenly such a big deal. I'm arrogantly proud of my two boys. Never knew I needed the approval of other people to make it OK. Same with my club. I did assume every fan felt the same arrogant pride in their club that I take in The Rangers, but apparently they're actually a modest lot, not given to shouting at TV or the papers... -
Still, you feel that getting rid of potentially £100m of debt ought to incur some sort of penalty. Not even the most fanatical of Bear would argue that we should avoid sanction altogether. It's a question of content rather than principle, for me anyway.

In the interests of openness and transparency, I call upon BBC Scotland and STV to cover live this momentus event, which as we all know sees the future of Scottish football hang in the balance. Think of the advertising revenue! Think of the air of democracy which would sweep through our game! I'd pay to see it.

Rules, Standards & Sanctions (Prof David Kinnon)

Alas, it's not so much a question of justification as structure. Since we have the ludicrous set up of two seperate league bodies operating two seperate leagues in Scoltand, the option of demotion from the top league to the next division down doesn't apply; as SFL chiefs have said, it's either start at the bottom or not at all. Now, this may be unprecedented or unfair but in our present set up that's just how it is. I confess I don't understand the OP. I have tried, but it's beyond me. -
Tho I admit I haven't been listening to the pundits - half time is kharzi time in my house - what I have heard hasn't been too bad, at least by their usual standards. Mark Lawrensen is just awful, but that's no surprise. His high point so far was chastising Podolski for picking Germany over Poland...bit rich coming from him! Thought last night was mince until the last 15 of the Croatia game. Things folks are missing about the head to head is that it encourages teams to go for victory in each game rather than waiting till they play a team like Ireland or us and racking up a bagful of goals. It's no coincidence that there's been no goalless draws so far.

Motherwell FC board statement regarding our 'newco' application to SPL
andy steel replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Wow! How d'they manage that? Hope it wasn't some administration type event, or something. If events at Rangers really impact on the game as a whole to this extent then there really is a need to seperate us from the rest. It's not healthy. I don't suppose buying a striker from Latvia or wherever it is helps the national game much, either, but I have no doubt that's our fault too. -
I love how they try to copy us in order to show how much they hate us!

First disappointing night so far.

It seems insane, that's why. Thinking about it, you can see why Michael Kelly was so annoyed - he and his family took pelters from the great unwashed for failing to keep up with Rangers; if we were at it the whole time, you can see why he'd be a tad miffed. But it's still hard to believe Murray would knowingly, over a period of years, operate a scam which he knew to be outwith the rules. Were it any other business I suppose, as a lefty type, I'd have no problem believing it. I suppose I just don't want it to be true.
-
Only caught the gist of it on SSN (I'm in the garden) but it seems the investigation has concluded that there's a case to answer and that it will go to another panel for a ruling. Surely Murray can't have been that stupid? Edit: Tho it may be dual contracts. I admit I get very confused which is which.

Apparently, we are to apologise for threatening other clubs' revenue stream.

Sky won't pull plug but would renegotiate SPL deal
andy steel replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Just so I can claim to be the first to say so...if any other clubs fold, it will of course be Rangers fault. -
Thinking doesn't come into it, Jim. It's their chance to give us a kicking, which many have been waiting for since their own success stopped shortly after the 1950s. I don't even mind that, it's the dressing it up as integrity that gets on my tits.
