The Summer 2023 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread
craig replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
But it IS working both ways - when they sign on with an EPL team their wages are immediately inflated because they are in the EPL..... Profits up ? In season 2018/19 (the only season I could find quickly) more than 50% of the EPL clubs made losses. Being in the EPL doesnt immediately mean increased profit... and know why ? In large part because increased revenue leads to increased transfer fee spend and increased wages.... So given your scenario, should the players also take a %age of the losses that clubs have ? He isnt penalised before the fact - he is penalized when relegation occurs - and he has ACCEPTED that in his contract - can hardly say he signed under duress. Using Aribo as an example, he probably tripled his wage (or more) when he signed for Southampton... can hardly complain when he then has to take a haircut on what wage for a contract he willingly signed.... -

Why is it ridiculous ? They get paid a shed load of money due to the EPL finances.... they know when they sign the contract that there is a risk their club will get relegated (well, if you sign for a club outside the top 6 or 7) and they sign the contract knowing the risk. -

Chelsea players are expected to take a 30% pay reduction for missing CL Leeds players all are taking a 40-50% pay cut if they get relegated Aribo's salary will absolutely no doubt take a bath, along with every other Southampton player. -

They refused to do it for 55 - why is it such an issue now ? -

Mate, that Chelsea v Palace U21 game I went to.... Palace had a CM who was about 6'5 and built like an absolute tank..... terrible player though... yet also has played in their 1st team. Speaking of that game - Omari Hutchinson, who hit the news for leaving Arsenal for Chelsea... is on 14k a week apparently... was dreadful. Only in the game when they gave him the ball, poor decision-making - quick feet admittedly - but for all the hype I was very unimpressed -

They don't even play U23's anymore - it is U21's (not a dig at you dB, more that if he is in their U23's he isnt playing much) - I went to see Chelsea U21's against Crystal Palace U21's last month.... if Beale is looking for ANY player from that Chelsea team he should be looking at Charlie Webster, central midfielder who is very tidy on the ball (never going to get him, has had a couple of games for 1st team and better teams will be looking at him) - a great option, IMHO, would be Jadan Raymond of Crystal Palace - plays the LM (Kent) role and is very tidy on the ball too - those two were stand-outs that night. -

I would take that with pretty much all our squad in fairness. As frustrating as Aribo could be, he played a hefty part in 55 and in the EL final campaign, all for a cross border development fee of, what, 350k ? And sold for 8 mill ? Yes please -

Very, very few of these "16, 17 and 18 yr olds out there with the big boys" will have ever played in the white hot atmosphere of this particular game. Seasoned, experienced professionals have wilted under this game, and many more have witnessed it and felt it is an atmosphere they have never experienced before. And you think throwing a 16-18 yr old in will somehow put hairs on his chest ? One example on what I believe is naivety (apologies, cant think of a better word) is you have Leon King at LCB with Adam Devine beside him at LB - up against, presumably Jota.... recipe for disaster - at the very least, if you wanted to play those kids... play King at RCB and Devine at LB - that way there is experience of Tavernier and Souttar splitting them. This game is not like any other in world football, other than maybe River Plate v Boca - it isnt a game where you can just say "throw them in, nothing to lose". It just isnt that type of game. -

One game will not determine whether those young players can cut it. But one game could very well end their Rangers career. These youngsters will hopefully have long successful careers with us - and we only play Celtic in the league 4 times a year - we have to beat the others - so there is no need to throw them into the lions den this weekend en masse - we should get a good look at how good they are over the other remaining games, not this one. -

Playing the team you suggested we would get hosed. That would not provide any kind of morale boost to those young players whatsoever - if anything, their Rangers careers could be ended because of it - our fans simply wouldnt accept it. I agree that the final phase should be about experimentation - but not in this game - this game is far more than just 3 points whether either set of fans care to admit it or not. -

Alfie and Kent have downed tools. They already had under Gio Lundstram has been playing with an injury most the season - and yet, under Beale, has had his two best games of the season Kamara - not sure how you can say Kamara looks worse under Beale - how many minutes has he actually had under Beale this season ? -
Was at Clarkson's Farm the other week.... Guy knows how to make money, will give him that

I have had the pleasure of meeting him in Vegas a number of years ago (night before an Old Firm game) - he was with Calvin Harris. Very much a Rangers man and the person behind the persona is very, very different. Hes a thoroughly likeable person when you chat to him. What you see on the cameras isnt really who he is, it is more of a persona than anything. Each to their own though

lol. I know less about the club than anyone. Still have a couple of friends at the Academy but never get anything out of those guys

We wouldnt have gotten that much for Tav I dont think. Not as much as we got for Patterson. Short-sightedness too perhaps in that Tav could still give us a few years, was providing a lot of goals and assists, whereas a 12 mill bid for a largely untested RB was an easy offer to accept. -
The reason their forwards get more success against our CB's is because they play the high press as a unity - we seem to just haphazardly apply it - it is almost as if we are scared to, but then do it out of obligation - ends up being a hybrid that works in neither situation.
