  1. I have informed this forum before; according to the current MyGers accounts, I am within five points of being appointed Rangers Gaffer. I demand my moniker be included in your list.

  2. A name springs out of that list but sorry Wilf, but you’ll never get a job in the UK. Who wants their team called the Nancy Boys?

  3. I think Martin has built up a good body of work as a coach. I did try to be somewhat realistic. Jaissle is in Saudi so we're not competing with the money but I hope he's looking to return to Europe some time in the future after pocketing as much as he can. Bielsa is unlikely. I'm just a fan of both. Martin and Motta are free agents. Motta was just sacked by Juventus, so maybe too much of a step down. Henriksen (Mainz), Nancy (Columbus Crew, MLS), Marsch (Canada), Rohl (Sheffield Wednesday) and Rystrom (Malmo) could be poached, maybe. McKenna is about to be relegated with Ipswich. He's not getting sacked, but could be poached. Although, he probably has enough credit to get a PL job. Knutsen is at Bodo/Glimt, but seems to be averse to moving as he has a cushy situation. Compo asked the question, I just provided some names that interest me. They're better than the same old names that get bandied about, like Warnock, Dyche and Lampard, surely? Do you have any names?

  4. Agree with Bluedell & Rousseau above. The very top player in the squad, worth the most money, pretty much has to be sold every year. No matter the argument. If you sell the top one for big money, you can maybe keep the next two in line and look for them to become the best player the following year and so on. In addition to removing some who havent worked out each year, and always trying to recoup the cost, this allows the budget to bring in slightly better quality than we brought in the year before, and over 2-3 years the squad looks much better. Cant happen overnight and nobody is the key piece of the jigsaw that cannot be sold.

  5. While there have been a couple of strong statements, what there needs to be is strong action by the club against these idiots. Whatever the real meaning behind the banner, (and what is the point if nobody knows what it was supposed to mean) what is undeniable is that it was making a political statement and not a "come on Rangers get intae them" statement and the UB chose a UEFA match to do this when the consequences were absolutely certainly going to be a big financial hit at best and a stadium closure at worst. A 30K Euros fine just for the banner. This was a premediated act by the UB to make a statement nobody even understands, knowing full well there would be consequences by UEFA that would cost the club in both cash and credibility. That is the ultimate in self-harm, and by their actions they actively are working against the club they claim to love. I cant see how that works in their minds? Until the E30K fine is repaid to the club by them, all privileges, tickets, allowances should be removed. No banners allowed, no drums or megaphones and all known leaders of the group banned from the stadium for a time, say till the end of the season. No further negotiation about safe-standing or expanding their area until a full year has passed without any cases raised by domestic or European authorities. Any further repeat of pyro, banners, smoke, flares etc sees the whole section shut down and returned to genuine supporters. There is certainly enough of a list waiting from what we hear. I term a supporter as someone who only wants good for the club, and does nothing deliberately and premeditated to harm it. The UB can no longer claim to be genuine supporters when they continue to harm the club's credibility and finances.

  6. Cerny has been superb, but I wouldn't burst the bank for him because he'll have very little sell-on value at his age.

  7. I've heard of 3, maybe 4 of them at most, and probably only because you have mentioned them before! But the fact you put Russell Martin on it gives me the fear. I get this is your wish list, but how many of them would be in a position to become our next manager (availability/salary/profile?)

  8. Never heard of half of the names on the list. Must be out of touch

  9. The hysteria from a section of our support is depressing. It's the board's fault" - Lots online blaming the board for not fighting the charge, even though they don't have a clue whether they did or didn't. Not that it would have mattered anyway. UEFA can do what they want. The board can't be blamed for UEFA's decisions. "It's not racist" - nobody has said that it was. "racist and/or discriminatory". 'Or' being the important word here. "Free speech is gone" - sigh. What a crap argument. You can make the argument but just not at at a UEFA match. They have their rules. If they had said "coherent speech is gone" then I'd have more sympathy. "Support the fans" - which fans are these? The ones who didn't want the banner or the ones that did? Just support the fans that you personally agree with? Another crap argument.

  11. Is Benitez Rafasaurus a dinosaur? Seen him quoted and he is available.

  12. He covered it on MNF. It was individual errors (new 'keeper or players having stage freight, so to speak), or going against his instructions. He tweaked things quite often - like inverting a full-back to help keep the ball against a good pressing side. He believes the best chance of winning is to keep the ball. His teams ranked quite highly in that regard, even in the Premier League. It's funny that we don't criticise teams that park the bus (a Mourinho philosophy, ironically) for refusing to change.

  13. Yes, I get it. Marsch did well at Salzburg, which I would say is a somewhat similar situation to us in our league. He also has a recognisable style of play (Red Bull), and he's American. He's not been wildly successful since - I think Canada are doing well, though. Rydstrom is the Malmo manager. Has won everything - although they are the dominant side in their league. We did pump them, but he has an interesting philosophy, having adopted the relationist style. Nancy has done well in the MLS with a positional style. Rohl has done a good job at Wednesday. He has a high press, German style of play. You'll notice my immediate concern with these names is style of play...

  14. That's not true - Martin just couldn't find / get to a solution. He tweaked things quite often. He has since suggested they got their recruitment wrong in terms of underestimating athleticism of the PL. However, we are talking about So'ton, in the PL: They were outmatched, as are the majority of promoted sides. This doesn't apply to us. Yes, he does have a philosophy, but so does Rodgers, so does Postecoglu. They've won quite a lot up here. IMO, that's what we need - someone that can implement a style of play. I will concede that his possession-based style is not everyone's cup of tea, though. Mourinho is now irrelevant. I wouldn't take notice of his opinions on the modern game. He was just beaten by Barry Ferguson. Your point is not without merit, but, IMO, this general distrust of 'philosophy' is out of date, and is part of the reason why this country is a footballing backwater. (I'm not lumping you in with those.)

  19. Did you write the banner? I think that people (not, necessarily, 'The People') and fans agree with UEFA, in this instance, and not vice versa. It matters little who agrees and who objects, because, it is UEFA's ba' and UEFA's bat, and it has set down its rules. Whether you accept them them, or not, or whether you believe its interpretation of those rules is flawed, is largely irrelevant, if you want to play.... Of course, in addition, the Club owns the stadium, and permits access to fans and others on the basis of terms and conditions, of which it is in charge. Break these strictures, and the Club is able to eject you, and/or ban you, permanently. I am completely in the dark as to how you might set about changing UEFA's position, and its rules. Maybe you could persuade enough Ultras, and enough Clubs to mount a challenge to the rules in the Court for Arbitration in Sport. As it would be an arbitration, I assume that UEFA would have to agree to sit down at the table, which it may not wish to do. Would it have an obligation in this regard? Would the much maligned European Court of Human Rights be interested? I have no idea how you would get the current, or the new, 'Ibrox Power Brokers' on-side on this issue. Good luck.

  20. If his decision making was better, he wouldn't be on loan at Ibrox. He still has much to offer, including experience, and I don't think that the much vaunted player trading 'model' means that you churn 10 or 11 players per annum. You need the basis of a continuously successful side, surely, with 'keepers' (and this does not refer to 'goal tenders' -get used to it). Maybe Vaclav Cerny is one that should be looked at in this regard.....
