From the games I have seen, most Scottish teams defend deep and with a lot of players. Playing so few attackers again and again makes no sense. Why your line-up has not been used is really a mystery. Rangers' attackers are easily crowded out and there are always defenders blocking shots from the outside. Very strange not to try an alternative.4 points

One of the things I liked about Advocaat was the way he was okay about changing tactics or personnel within minutes of a match starting. That's the way it shoud be. Don't persist with something that isn't working, especially if it hasn't worked for months.3 points

SC'76 Motherwell 2up but we come back to win 3-2 with some direct fitbaw. Peter McCloy, assist king. I was a wee laddie listening to David Francey commentary.3 points

Martin Buchan was the Aberdeen defender. His father also Martin played for Buckie Thistle at outside or inside right, outstanding at that level. That Scottish Cup semi final was one of Stein’s best ever games under threat of suspension for the final. Most semi finals don’t stick in the memory, probably because they are over-shadowed by the finals or in a few cases because they are the end of the road. The only other one I remember is the 1-2 replay against Hibs 1958 and the notorious disallowed equaliser minutes from the end.3 points

I always liked Redford and he always scored important goals for us. It was a rough time being a Rangers fan in those days, somethings never change 😃2 points

I always remember the 1984 League Cup Semi-Final V Dundee United. Lost the 1st leg 1-0 at Tannidice but won 2-0 at Ibrox in 2nd leg. Sandy Clark scored the first goal to bring the tie level then Ian Redford chipped McAlpine for the winner. 26min highlight package ;2 points

The main issue with Igamane is that he's getting a couple of minutes here and a couple of minutes there with no opportunity to get a run even though we have a striker that is, well, the less said the better2 points

Some Semi Finals stick for me. The 1996 Scottish Cup Semi at Hampden when we beat Celtic 2-1, that was a great game. The Laudrup lob to win it was excellent even though they tried to take him clean out. McCoist opened the scoring with a typical tap in after Robertson hit a shot and I think Marshall in goal laid it straight to McCoist. Plus the 92 Semi against against Celtic when we played about 83 minutes with 10 men - and Super Ally did it again with a strike from outside the box.2 points

Here’s one for the fans of yesteryear the 1969 semi against a very good Aberdeen team with a defence marshaled by Martin Buchanan we played our best ninety minutes of that season that day at Parkhead a Johnston hatrick a couple from Penman and another from bunion Billy but the day’s best remembered for a display of centre forward play from Colin Stein he was superb that afternoon unplayable and against a very good defence we hammered them that day even their goal came from one of our own Jim Forrest.1 point

I’ll play that mob anytime anywhere. Not scared of them or their oddball manager.1 point

I can see his point, how can he train them in a new formation with no real training time? He can’t even get them playing in his favoured formation after how long?1 point

I actually said to someone earlier that I hope we get beat tomorrow instead of the Final against them. Awful predicament to be in (again)1 point

This shows their level, they were lucky against the rheptiles last time they played, we just shat it midweek, embarassingly.1 point

As said above, I think its just Celtic flexing. We can't slag any one off for losing easily / heavily to Celtic, we're masters at it.1 point

Mikel Arteta might be available soon. Just saying...1 point

Apart from Russell and Cooper and maybe McLoy man for man United had a better team. That’s judging McCoist on his form at the time.1 point

4-4-2 or 3-5-2 for me. As has been said before, our strikers don't function in the single striker mode so at least try 2 up top and go for it. And that's 2 strikers. Not one striker and someone else in the hole as a supporting number 10. We need to adopt other options as it clear to see that what we are doing now is not working.1 point

This will be tough this weekend, last week was crazy with injury times goals in almost every game. - Gunners with loads of injuries but I like how Arteta hasnt used it as an excuse. - Routine City win. Loads of injuries which Pep has complained about but they can still field a top XI. - First win for Ipswich. - Forest doing really well but questions still hang over Lopetegui at West Ham. - Smash and grab for Everton. - Palace are onto their game now. - Tottenham v Villa could go anyway. - Man U players will be on trial with Amorin watching but Chelsea probably have the better players. - Monday night game is a nice fixture. When I lived down south this would have been a 3rd tier fixture. These two and Leyton Orient were London's lesser clubs. Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal Bournemouth 0-2 Man City Ipswich 2-1 Leicester Liverpool 3-1 Brighton Nottingham Forest 2-2 West Ham Southampton 0-1 Everton Wolves 1-2 Crystal Palace Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa Man Utd 2-2 Chelsea Fulham 2-1 Brentford1 point

The mess we were and are in are not made on the business part of things. We are where we are money-wise, we knew and we know it. What failed us time and again, under SG, Gio, Beale and now Clement, is sticking to a system that is not made for the Scottish game - unless you have the players to play it. And even if we had them, it would have been difficult. For this system to be successful, you have to have two fullbacks playing the winger part, and two attackers either side of the central striker who supply assists and contribute with goals. We fell into the Morelos trap, as we essentially geared much of our game to assist him. As soon as he dropped out of form, we toiled. Now everyone looks at Dessers or Colak or whomever to become the new Morelos- or Negri-like saviour, instead of playing two strikers, two wingers, and just one DM. Most modern DMs can play football as well, i.e. if space opens up, attack. Throughout the years we had too many midfielders on the pitch who are not goalscorers, so they 7 out of 10 times passed the ball on from a good position rather than shoot. We still see this today. Coming to think of it, I'd give Kris Boyd the reigns to see whether he would finally approach an aggressive attacking style (every now and then) instead of a de facto "6-man defensive line-up with the 'potential' to attack". Against dross like St. Johnstone, Dundee, or the like. I'm so sick and tired of this tactical formation, which has proven to be pointless in Scotland ...1 point

There was a brother George if I remember correctly it was around that time they perfected a first class offside trap infuriating to play against but very effective at catching out their opponents.1 point
