I'm not sure how any of us can assess whether Gillespie would have made a good or bad CEO for us.5 points

I think a lot of us seem to rely on 'gut instincts' with a lot of these things. Better off just admitting we don't have enough information.3 points

There is very little information, but much conjecture. I have decided long ago that I have enough headaches with the team and the manager, so I leave this side of the club to others.3 points

Which board (directors) ? The current board are looking to make the club a viable business after multiple previous boards have went with the more popular spending more than they made, whilst kicking the can further down the road. The current board, like multiple prior boards, have made a lot of poor decisions and lack real leadership qualities BUT under Bennett, are at least trying to make the club viable. If the support don't show a degree of patience over the MEDiUM TERM then they deserve what will come further down the line.2 points

I'd put a positive spin on it and say she could do that and hopefully sustain success in terms of trophies with us - e.g. in the mold of a Salzburg or a Benfica. We talk about the trading model, she'd seem like a candidate who could make it work and improve the quality of the squad over time. You do make fair points though. I hate to say it but we need to be realistic with where we're at in the foodchain in Europe - this sort of model would be viable for us AND could bring success if done properly. A boon would also be developing and producing Scottish talent too.2 points

That's one way to look at it. Anyone who pays any attention knows all about the FFP stuff. The reason for this thread is that we look disjointed and lazy on the pitch - the basics aren't being done well enough. Why is that - is it down to the players, the manager or a bit of both?2 points

Yes this is something to think about as well but it looks like we will be more hoping for the Arteta revival than Klopps. With Klopp you could see what he was trying to do and it was a simple case of he needs a keeper and a centre half, once he got that they were top level. With Arteta they stumbled 8th twice then 5th, all of a sudden Saliba comes in the team and they clicked instantly and were a different animal that nobody saw coming. With Clement its a bit of both. For him to even get us in a title race after coming into inherit Beale's mess was remarkable itself and people are probably overlooking this, but since the poor defeat at Ross County and draw at Dundee it seems we havent recovered and its continued into this season. I still think we have a slight hangover from having to climb through the leagues again - and there are reasons for this out of our control like the money Celtic inherited but at the same time appointing Beale and backing him with funds and pretty much all the decision making set us back again.2 points

Major update on Rangers' CEO hunt as St Mirren vice chairman Jim Gillespie stuns club bosses | The Scottish Sun The shenanigans continue. This guy has changed his mind for whatever reason. A lifelong Rangers supporter we were told. Surely it would be a dream role for any Rangers supporter capable? I know there was talk of an ongoing court case which he was involved in which may have muddied the water. Some kind of defamation case I believe.1 point

I propose Windy Miller from Trumpton, he could whistle up the wind. Rangers could do with a period of fair wind.1 point

The club need to treat this next CEO search like a big money, key first team signing. If it takes that kind of money to get in an outstanding candidate then so be it.1 point

Get him tf. I'm not having the board renegade on a candidate because some beggar went on the radio wanting the job. Fucking amateur hour man. Don't GO sponsor Celtic? How daft would we have to be to interview him?1 point

Gillespie has never had a football CEO role.1 point

The great captains of my follow following time, Jock Shaw, Geordie Young, Ian McColl, Eric Caldow, Bobby Shearer, John Greig, Terry Butcher, Richard Gough were all leaders and drivers of men and they all knew when to be which. Souness wasn’t nominal captain but when he was on the field the only captain’s job he didn’t do was call the toss. Poor Tavernier hasn’t got the players round him that these men had.1 point

Hopefully they have someone with a good track record lined up. Won't hold my breath...1 point

What does outside investment mean ? Back to (remaining in) the 'good old days' of spending more than we earn, perhaps? How would that go down with the new FFP regulations? Is there a queue of well intentioned extremely wealthy benefactors because I didn't see many of them in 2012. Bennett is at least right in that we firstly have to become viable and it will be painful.1 point

It could also be some of the players arent capable of buying into Clement's methods for one reason or another. Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks for the old guard and then you could be creating a salad bowl instead of a good blend. There has been a good number coming in the door during the summer and we have had a horrendous injury list again so until that eases and the new players are settled we may not see much developing on the pitch for a while. As such I am still fully behind Big Phil, I think he has been unlucky despite some baffling decisions, however this could be down to trust - he see's things day in day out that we dont.1 point

I expect us to get going eventually, but we will likely be too far behind for it to make a difference for this season.1 point
