  1. The Tavernier situation is arguably a no-win one. We lose an influential player with minimal opportunity to replace him or we keep him knowing his influence is rapidly decreasing. It's arguably best he moves on which completes the reset and move Kasanwirjo/Sterling to right back. I'm unconvinced there will be a huge amount of genuine interest and, even then, certainly at figures smaller than we apparently turned down over the summer. However, with support split on his contribution, if we can organise a move/loan then it it might suit us and the player. It's a real pity the debate around Tav has become so toxic. He has always split opinion to various degrees but he's a player who has contributed positively in the main despite his lack of success. However, I don't think he'll find that level again so time now right to leave.

  2. Amazingly, you still occasionally see Bears saying we should bring Kent back!

  3. Boy on FF that has had good info in the past says we have accepted a bid, but no idea of Tav wants to go or not.

  4. Tavernier is just the latest in a long line of players to be retained a bit too long. You can say the same about Morelos, Kent and Kamara. If he is going nowhere then the manager always has the option to replace him in the first team while keeping him as an expensive club captain.

  5. I believe his mother passed away last April so I think that event (and probably the lead up to it) has affected the lad more than many of will relate to. Ultimately we don't know why he's not making the best use of his undoubted ability but I do have a worry that we seem to struggle to get the best of of certain players; especially those with an attacking/creative persuasion.

  7. I don't know for certain. Whatever issues he has that's three managers in a row who don't trust him, despite his obvious talent. He's still at the club so I assume he'll make the Europa League bench just because of circumstance. He's not making our first team unless there's a raft of injuries, so expect him to start in about 3 weeks time! It's so frustrating, he has genuine ability, he could have a wonderful career, but clearly something is missing mentally.

  8. Not when we couldn't afford it and had to finance it by selling part of the club's footprint that is now lost forever.

  9. It's telling we couldn't even get anyone to take him on loan after his spell at Hearts.

  10. At least Kent was seldom injured & always available for selection.

  11. I thought Kent was a cracking wee player for us tbf. Both footed, creative and a good finisher at times (awful at others). We miss his graft more than anything - idk if it was his relationship with Gerrard or just his inate application but his work rate was immense. Still wouldn't sign him though.

  12. Aye true enough, it'd be a pretty dismal UEL campaign if we don't manage to get into the top 24 though. I wasn't suggesting we make the final, more that with the expansion we'll hit a similar number of games as the run to Seville if we make the playoffs.

  13. Just on the Danilo omission - the paranoia being built up online I've seen in relation to the club withholding information and him seemingly never kicking a ball again is unreal. He's just off of a serious long term injury and has suffered a setback. Let's say he's 'out' for 6 weeks and then takes another month to be match fit - I can see the logic in withholding him from the Euro squad. Purely from a player welfare and game management point of view, let him build his fitness up in the less intense domestic games. A lot of our fans still don't realise that this season is going to be like the Seville run if we make the KO's of the UEL and go far in the cups in terms of the schedule intensity. Tbh I think Celtic are in for a shock in that regard too. We've just seen Chelsea leave Palmer out of their UECL squad for those reasons. This decision is in a similar vein, if anything it's more understandable. Clement, to give him his credit, has always tried to use the squad in a holistic manner. I've got no qualms with this decision tbh.

  14. Quite incredible! I would like a player that played as well as he did up until his last season. Judging by everything that he contributed, after the Europa League final, I don't think that could be him.

  15. Hitc? I'm surprised that you even have to question whether it's reputable.

  16. Voddie Bhoy (an allegedly appropriate soubriquet, others suggest) has a staggeringly bad recent record: one win in 13 matches, I believe, and that against the Sons of the (other) Rock, the mighty Gibraltar. It includes, of course, being the worst team to appear at the Euro Finals this year. I wonder how such a sad curriculum vitae would be greeted, and treated, by the suits and blazers at SFA HQ, by the press and other media, and by the tablecloths and Timberlands of the tartan 'army', if the manager responsible for such ignominy had a connection with Rangers, or, indeed, was merely of the Reformed Faith. Imagine the obloquy heaped upon his head, from every quarter. Actually, we need not speculate. We need only recall the vituperation rained upon Alex McLeish: a vicious shoeing with the sole purpose of hounding him out of the job. Clarke, however, seems to get a free pass. Incroyable! Peut etre, non.

  17. Cheers and don't slam the door. Our selling model has been genuinely horrendous in recent years. Gerrard partly to blame for refusing to sell post '55. Selling one of Kent or Morelos at that point just had to happen. Exacerbated by the fact that he f***ed off to Villa months after. Almost comical really.

  18. Indeed, we do; and this is not a recent phenomenon. It was often put down to the manager and/or the Captain and senior pros, discouraging the creative ball players from displaying their skills fully, because such would show up the rest of the side, and upset them. On the other hand, while our more skilled types can appear stifled -and not always by the opposition- sometimes, just sometimes, say once or twice a match, on average, our duds look to be the duddest duds that ever donned football duds; and that must count for something, non?

  19. Matondo may be the 'new' Kemar Roofe. Danilo seems to be moving, gingerly, towards Sebastian Rozental status (and, I hope, for, primarily, his sake, that I am unduly pessimistic, and that he can recover). Do we have an Oleg Kuznetzov de nos jours? I don't think that we have a latter-day Daniel Prodan on the books. Maybe in the next window, if we are desperate, enough. Who can forget the 'capture' of that Romanian International full-back, whom -bizarrely, insanely- we acquired, despite him having only one functioning knee joint? The strategy for Matondo must be, surely, to get him fit, and move him on, preferably in January. The Club must implement, forthwith, a four month course of fitness training and physiotherapy (even if he doesn't need the latter, because he might just think he does), and a course of hypnotherapy aimed at convincing him that he is Brian Laudrup. But, honestly, even if that comprehensive strategy worked, I don't think he is a 'keeper'. As for Danilo, I do think that the Club can only go through the medical card with him, and hope............

  21. At the end of the day, we started this and last season with neither of our three most creative people available or even at the club. To say it cost us dearly is probably a neat understatement. This season, we had a couple of new "alternatives", but the end result was the same ... We've been through far worse situations, of course, but for some reason, this summer transfer window and early season feels more ... stale than many before.

  22. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see much of Danilo this season. Can't feel positive about it at all.

  23. 2nd top scorer this season and top assist suggest otherwise.

  24. Save you the time with a couple of quotes.... "I've been badly managed" "I've been badly advised" "Theres a misconception of how my time was at Rangers, it's been twisted" "I wasn't a bad performer and didn't leave because I was kicked out" "I never said I didn't want to play for Rangers" Some interesting stuff but the general sense is, he is where he is and its all everybody elses fault

  25. Hopefully not. I'd advise fellow Bears to completely ignore Cantwell.

  26. Aye, club are telling porkies to avoid criticism for a dreadful transfer window and wafer thin squad. This season is already looking more and more grim as time goes by.
