I remember a lecture at Staff College on, 'Objective Appreciation'. I had endured umpteen lectures on the subject but, it was being intensified as we moved from the heading, 'Aim' to, 'Mission Statement' in the orders process. A simple aim ie to attack and destroy the enemy at grid reference 12345678 was being replaced with possible multi-paragraphs on achievable aims. I was confused; however a Sapper Colonel simplified it by explaining it was semantics because you can only play the hand you are dealt. Clement was dealt a most poor hand, a host of over payed players in a largely ageing team had to be moved on. He began by bluffing his hand, signing younger players in Cortes, Diamonde and, Barron then suffered a run of injuries in Jack, Cortes and, Raskin. Refereeing decisions in the more important games have been largely prejudicial in a constant environment of penalty to Rangers. Last night's howler was truly awful and Ridvan's injury looks medium to long term. I suspect we have not experienced the nadir, it looks like more bad times await? In twelve years, we have had twelve Gaffers, six permanent and six temporary. The longest lasting was Gerrard, lasting three and a half years. He delivered the League title and the base for considerable Euro success. Continuity is important and I believe the Belgian deserves time to turn it around. As a support, we must NOT lose our discipline, if we want to vent then voice concerns to both the club Chairman, John Bennet and his Board. They are the folks tasked with improving the Gaffer's hand.11 points

Has there ever been a Rangers manager who has had so many refereeing decisions go against him ? Think 4 OF games last season and also last night.9 points

Ah well, what a shame - happy never to see a celtic fan inside Ibrox ever again.7 points

Getting the bulk of his wages paid elsewhere and putting him in the shop window for a season is far better than having him sitting on the bench and paying his full wage. Cleaning up the mess left by all the managers since 55 is going to take a few windows.7 points

If we're still paying Cantwell then we should be playing him. He can't possibly offer less than Lawrence is at the moment.6 points

We’ve regressed but I think ultimately that is what we have had to do to move forward in the future. We need to clear players out and bring in players for the future, we are going to have a period of building and I don’t think there will be much light this year. I don’t see any point in moving on Clement, he has been given an overpaid and tired squad. It’s going to take time to turn it all around. I think there needs to be changes behind the scenes more than in our manager.5 points

Yes we bottled it at the end of last season, but it could and should have ended better with only our late subs costing us a win at Tynecastle and then more cheating officials costing us a cup double. I am onboard with you on lack of an obvious shape or style, I was hoping to see that by now but again PC has said all throughout pre-season it will take time and the lack of new players is hampering this situation. Imagine what could have been done if we had (as I and others wanted) got rid of Beale at the end of the 22/23 season and brought in PC then with the amount of cash Beale spunked on absolute diddies being given to Clement. Most of Beale's signings were done early in the window as well which gave him a lot of pre-season to work with. This summer is the exact opposite of that, with no budget, only replacing one out one in, more injuries and players coming back from Euros, long injuries etc, and PC having to try to get something out of players he knows are not what he wants. He is not Guardiola, he cant just make this squad of diddies play total football, the squad at this stage is not his finished article of even close to it. It really is all about patience (not our strong point!) and not ramping up the pressure on the team, although the same cant be said for our board. I thought Bennett said a new CEO was going to be appointed within a week of his interview? Still nothing. No further update on the steel that was supposed to be landing in days, or any consolation that the timescale for the end of September is on track.4 points

We just need some new additions. A #10 transforms the side, IMO. Of course, we're skint so we have to sell first.4 points

We were probably shading the game as the better team until the sending off. You could see the ref was going to be a problem within the first 5 minutes.4 points

I went for Dessers. Thought he played his heart out last night. I am disgusted at the fans booing him. Propper, Barron and Diomande did well too. Jefte also worth a mention.4 points

Sometimes you have to take a step back. This was always going to be a longterm project and I'm with Big Phil. This, we want it now, and booing our own player crap is just poor form. We could go all out for a title or build for several in a row, I know what I'd prefer.3 points

Mate with the best will in the world, you simply can't rebuild a whole entire squad and first XI in one window and expect to be successful. Certainly not in the professional game. This will take this window, the next, the one after and probably the one after that. Maybe more. We're not a part time outfit in the lowland league even if the governance of the club resembles it.3 points

I said it earlier in the summer and it might be controversial but we should have openly touted the sale of Butland in the summer. His sale could potentially bring in 10-15 million and that combined with player sales would have help fund our much needed rebuild. Butlands a great goalie (not as good as some people make out though...) but we have bigger issues in front of him to fix. Kelly would be good enough for the SPL and with better players in front of him.3 points

We keep hearing/reading about #10/#6/#102etc. Forget about numbers, except for cash values and just pick a team that can play. Liverpool did not have #### when they played "total football".3 points

I don't think it is as simple as that. It's all about spending it wisely. We have a higher wage bill than them - correct me if I am wrong? - we've just squandered it. They still have to spend their profits wisely, which is no guarantee. I don't believe Rodgers has a great track record in that regard?3 points

From the article: Away fans will be locked out of the next TWO Old Firm games after Celtic and Rangers became embroiled in another bitter fall-out over tickets. It was announced last term that an agreement had been struck which would see an allocation of around five per cent at both grounds. That meant both clubs would be supported by around 2,500 visiting fans at Celtic Park and Ibrox for the coming season and beyond. But it's emerged tonight that there's been a major U-turn with Celtic raising concerns over the Ne'er Day derby arrangements. The Hoops host Philippe Clement's side at Parkhead in the first derby of the season on September 1 and have forked out over the summer to put extra security measures in place in and around their stadium.2 points

Initial reports stated he was 'Head of Marketing' - that doesn't sound like a consultancy role to me. Simple rule - don't employ yahoos.2 points

We have looked better out of possession recently though. There's a semblance of a press at least. Plug in players who can run and all of a sudden it sharpens up. I have hope. Gerrard used to drive me up the wall in his first couple of seasons with his selections and choices.2 points

Yeah, let's miss out on £5 million of CL money on a point of principle. I agree it's not ideal, but he's still our player and it's not playing our best players, and it's arguably cost us points in the league and a lot of cash in Europe. We're not in the position where we can leave players out. Out of the CL, £5m worse off and 2 points behind Celtic. Obviously it's all "what ifs" but Cantwell has the spark of inspiration that the team has been crying out for. There's been plenty of other examples where we've played players who won't sign new contracts and effectively signalled that they are signing for new clubs.2 points

I fully agree with the sentiment (selling to fund a rebuild), but I doubt we get anything close to £10-15m for him.2 points

Didn't say we could (in fact been saying this for years, funny that) - but why say that this window has been in the planning for 6 months then? 2 weeks until the end of the window and we don't know if we are going for a shit or a haircut when it comes to transfers2 points

See this is where it gets contradictory. We "almost" won the league last season with a squad of diddies. We should have won the league, but didn't. We can point to several factors, but in those factors is strange team selection/subs and a sudden obsession with narrowing our full-backs. The board appointed Beale then gave him full control of recruitment (I'd say down to penny pinching) and we're paying the price for it now. That's NOT Beales fault. As for CEO and steel updates, it appears Bennett has gone into hiding again, conveniently when we require a strong and determined leader.2 points

I've been saying this since Beale - we are focusing our anger at the wrong people. Booing Dessers isn't going to get us a winning team on the pitch. The board have made terrible decision after terrible decision (appointing Clement may be another, who knows). Until the board appoint people capable of running a football club, we'll continue to regress until it all falls apart (it's close to falling apart in mu opinion). 14th of August and we still haven't sorted out the squad despite 6 months of planning and we still don't know when we'll be back at Ibrox (or what progress has been made since the last announcement). Run but amateurs2 points

Yes and the fact that I dont need to spend another £30+ to visit that dump of a place that takes hours to get to, hours to get away from, and for 85% of it offers a pretty terrible view, and have a free midweek night instead of having to attend either the stadium or the pub to watch another borefest or two. That I am actually a bit relieved about that is a very worrying insight into how bad we have got at this time.2 points
-
We also need to stop filling our first team squad with out of contract players. This seldom works. There are often reasons why these players are out of contract & looking for a new club2 points

So he's not going to ready for a couple of weeks (fine, now we know), but was going to feature last night? Hopefully he starts on Saturday and takes some of the heat, hate and pressure of Dessers.2 points

Connor Barron for me his presence in everything last night stood out from covering Yilmaz to allowing Jefte and himself to move forward and many more examples of how a player at Rangers should perform so the Scottish terrier for me again 🔴⚪🔵2 points

He was too young for us no doubt😈2 points

Ok Dessers gets it in the neck but he isn't the worst player in the team,at moment that is Tav. IMO.Lookat last night a Kiev player has a hard shot "brilliantly blocked by Soutar" Dessers has a shot similarly blocked but is accused of missing,he can't win can he?.2 points

Dessers touch of class with his through ball in the first half created our best chance, so will go for him. I thought Propper had a sound game but haven't seen back the goals.2 points

Dynamo Kiev are a painfully ordinary side. I understand that we will struggle to score against ordinary sides while Dessers plays. We still should not lose to sides like that.2 points

Looking at the MOTM thread, agree Soutter had a good game. Heard a lot on various podcasts that Soutter has a mistake in him, looks shaky and gets an easy time of it compared to Ben Davies. To summarise: Ben Davies £3.5 million and 25k per week John Soutter 'free' and 12k a week Perhaps its easy to see why Soutter is tolerated far more than Davies.2 points

Both were poor but I would have started with Cerny after Saturday. Are we the only team that is micro managing minutes from every player. In all my time watching Rangers, I cannot recall ever hearing so much about fitness and players being ready. Just friggin play them.1 point
