Ever since that injury against Liverpool in 2022, Goldson was never the same. Yes he had his faults and he definitely declined in the last year especially but I'll always remember the part he played in our 55th title and the professional way he led the side. Good luck, big man!6 points

And he's got the Gersnet Player of the Season award to look back with fondness.4 points

Our problem is getting a replacement as we definitely don't have anyone as good as him in the current squad.4 points

I think the majority of the reactions to Mr Bennet's video have been poor. I believe the man is doing his best by the club, and as nobody richer with better business accumen is attempting to take over from him, we should give him our support. The same can be said for the team, booing our own team is just not going to get a better performance from them. I for one, and hopefully not the only one, will be giving my full support to those who relish this fight back to our rightful place at the top of Scottish football. WATP4 points

Of course but that doesn't mean we should stand back and ignore inconsistent waffle about player trading. The situation at the club really worries me. We're moving towards really difficult times at pace and we're hardly sitting comfortably right now.4 points

Going back to Frankie's update post, I was thinking that £11M of commitments would include staged payments for the likes of Danilo and Dessers. It is normal these days I believe to stage payments across a year or 2, and I am sure I have read this is very much our club's way of dealing in the market too. So when JB talks of this high number that may include staged payments for previous purchases, not only the likes of summer 2024 buys like Cerny and Cortes. I thought the interview was pretty much as expected and not as bad as others have said, he explained a bit about the timescales for the steel, the process there going forward, didnt expect him to say too much about how it was allowed to happen to get to this stage. Like others though I was a little surprised he took the tone as if he has only just joined the board now and not that he has been there for about 5 years now. I appreciate his was not a hands on role day to day and that we had CEO and other board members more involved but he should have took it a bit more on the chin for collective responsibility. A bit more humility perhaps. Explained a bit more about what he and PC are going to be doing to change the squad around with no more buying non-resale value players and also cutting costs (the wage bill I suspect being the biggest hit which is why Goldson Tav & Cantwell are being punted as they are suspected to be the biggest earners) and bringing in more legs and energy as well as hopefully quality.3 points

No, he doesn't. As far as players go, they tend put in the hard work prior to the signing of a contract extension. The main problem was the club being daft enough to give him such a long extension on a huge salary.3 points

No one is replacing the board. They need to hire more competent and experienced individuals to run things better. I've seen loads of people continually blaming the board for not backing Gerrard after 55 but Gerrard didn't want to sell anyone, so that was as much his fault as it was theirs. Two main areas of focus should be selling players at their peak and reducing the wage bill.3 points

Best of luck to him. Was a warrior for a good few years until Seville/Liverpool. Being 'hard' in football isn't just going in with intent, it's just as tough to knock out 50+ games a season (full 90's btw) on dire pitches and just as dire protection from the refs as it is to leave one on your opponent regularly. Stayed a wee bit too long but was a true Ranger for a good while, hopefully he gets remembered for his attitude and desire to play in the shirt more than anything else.2 points

Management speak is just generic 'please the listener' and 'avoid being confrontational or controversial' bingo nowadays. Expecting honesty, including admissions of guilt, will only lead to disappointment.2 points

Too far and you've given Cammy ammo to last him another six months.2 points

Now the chairman's interview is available, I thought it was only fair I circled back to this article. First and foremost, the chairman isn't a great public speaker and I'm sure he'd concede that. The interview was also too long, too rambling and too generic in nature. However, there was some interest within it worth noting. - He suggested the end of September to be back at Ibrox. That's far from ideal but it is what it is. Let's hope that doesn't slide. - He discussed club finances and I think he was clear enough that we're struggling in that regard. As such, fans must acknowledge that context in terms of transfers and other factors. - With that in mind, it's important to note our existing obligations of over £11m excluding loan deals (so Cortes and Cerny). That's a big issue if the Lammers and Goldson deals haven't helped balance that number. It shows how vital is it to move people on at the right time and that must be done with assets going forward. It also shows how we can't just go and spend £5m on Player A or B on a whim. We have to be creative in our approach (see Diomande and Cortes for examples of this). - Bennett also talked about avoiding 'rinsing and repeating' every October if results don't go our way. As such, the clear inference is that we are 'all in' on Clement's rebuild and, so far at least (and taking the above into account) this rebuild will not happen in this window alone. Of course there should be no concession of anything in July but I think patience and realism amongst the fans is going to be needed in large amounts. All things considered, I don't think the interview was a good one. However, there was enough information within it to show the club is not in a good place. Where Bennett arguably fell down was his failure to acknowledge the existing board's part in the status quo. They've been responsible for much of the decision-making that has resulted in our current weak position and they're responsible for negotiating us out of that - either with the correct staff appointments (on and off the park) and investment to help the improve the disappointing financials he noted. I don't doubt the chairman's credentials as a fan. I also thank him for his efforts and financial backing which have been essential in recent seasons. I don't think that backing can be under-estimated. However, that doesn't mean he (or anyone else) is the right man for running the club. In that sense, perhaps substantial change in terms of a new chairman right now isn't the best idea but delivering a competent and experienced new CEO (and Bennett's body language was evasive when questioned about that) is key for the continuity and well-being of the club. In closing, I also don't doubt people are working hard to find improvement. However, that's the minimum I'd expect and it still doesn't mean these people (again on and off the park) are the right ones. As such, when the chairman talks about difficult financials and challenges, that's because of under-performance throughout the club in recent years during his watch. This was his chance to highlight that and promise change - both at board level and throughout other areas of the club. I remain unconvinced that accountability was either realised or going to be addressed. Our direction of travel remains far from clear.2 points

You read some of the concerns above and wonder how people have survived until now. Your recent history saw you overcome far greater problems, the people in place, PR failures or not, will surely do their best to keep the club on the right track. What will happen is very much out of your hands, so perhaps you will want to wait and see what will actually happen? The ground-work thing is unfortunate and will probably cost additional money, bit shit happens. With a bit of luck, Diomande will keep his form and some English or German team knocks in your door with 10 or 15 million in January. It will - sadly - not be Union Berlin.1 point

And King and Nsaila or whatever he's called. But I agree we need more quality there as none of these (clearly I know nothing of the newbie so exclude him) are good enough to be first picks. I think of Souttar, Balogun and Davies as rotational players or backup, they are not of sufficient quality or reliability to build your base from. In fact I can think of only Helander as a proper first team defender from all we have had since SG arrived, and he was of course made of chocolate so failed the reliability test. Am I missing anyone? Our list of CH in the last 7 years must be remarkably poor and is probably the biggest factor in us winning 3 out of the last 21 domestic trophies.1 point

We’re also low in numbers at CB now. Just 36 year old Balogun, the often injured Souttar & Davies.1 point

Off course writing on forums won't change the boards minds about anything, same goes for the days in fanzines. Many a 1000 words were written in FF and No1 fanzine warning Rangers fans of the impending catastrophe under the leadership of SDM and all those words or warning were futile. It only led to those writing them being accused of being "non-Rangers" fans and those who demonstrated being attacked. Whilst it may be futile, in that example, those shouting "omnishambles" were proven correct. Whether this will prove to be the case again only time will tell1 point

When I went to the football, it was to see the team, not the board. No matter how bad they are, it’s still the Rangers.1 point

As it stands, the biggest obstacle to that happening is Celtic, themselves. Their support will be lapping it up but Lawwell won't be happy with how big the gap could get. Not good for business. They closed the top tier when we were in the lower divisions. The escape route for both teams is the, up until now, fabled restructuring of European football.1 point

You're right. But there's definitely a groundswell of unhappiness building amongst the support at large and I'm not talking about you and I online but outwith that: e.g. commercial partners and RSCs. If (when?) Celtic move to 4, 5, 6 7, IAR then voting with our feet will very much become an issue; not to mention future generations of fans that will never happen. The club can ignore that all they want but it's their future as much as ours.1 point

Yes and not one of those posts has changed anything at all, which proves my point about the futility of whining endlessly on a forum.1 point

One could repeatedly, pathetically and indirectly snipe at another poster on Gersnet and all it would do, would be to reflect on a different omnishambles altogether 😂 You sniped repeatedly, when, a year and more ago, I posted on our terrible signing policy of outside bets, lack of good communication, expectation levels, economic woes and general direction. Turns out, I was right. It wasn't difficult to see and those in charge would have seen it up close. But they charged down the same old path regardless. Bennett talks about radically changing direction but he hasn't got it in him to carry it through. Not many have. We will have to go lower before general expectation levels get to a place that allow it to happen. That would come with the real risk of a drop off in support.1 point

You're very welcome to accept Celtic disappearing into the distance. I'd rather challenge that.1 point

I would like people to try standing back and ignoring inconsistent waffle about player trading. The only reason that they ever discuss these things in public is to placate certain fans. It is all meaningless.1 point

We must be up there for the UK gold award to worst consistent overall management of a football club in the 21st century. Perhaps, Sunderland for the silver medal. Bennett has been successful in his field but is currently out of his depth. It is a gig that is becoming increasingly difficult and it'll take brave leadership to turn the ship around. With regard to reacting to the bad news (3 very slow boats from China), he mentions "...implement, contingency...".....Then he goes on about what he wanted from that moment...... There was no f**king contingency, Mr. Chairman. Own it and explain why not. He goes on about the financial situation as if he is joining the club today. This won't end well unless we change the habits of several decades and the words of John Bennett might as well be previous incumbents talking a good game about implementing the player trading model or various moonbeams. Non leadership pish and wind1 point

There is no denying that, but there is also no denying its been handled terribly. We still don't know where our £1.5M striker is, or how close he is to featuring for either B or 1st team. We await news on whether Cernys International clearance has arrived and if he will feature on Saturday. We still don't know if / where Connor Goldson is or if he's been sold / loaned to another club. (Ditto Cifuentes). Our prime targets have been approached and appear to have rejected us. We have an inferior and weaker squad than we did at the end of last season. Any player we want to have play in CL qualifiers must be registered by Thursday. Has any or the managers transfer budget been removed to help pay for Hampden / work on Copland? Our Chairman is MIA. It's a complete clusterfcuk no matter how you try to paint it.1 point

This rebuild is what the majority of the fan base wanted. We have to take the consequences of that.1 point
