  4. It's only natural that discussion has focussed specifically on the use of VAR in the recent game at Parkhead and there are certainly no shortage of issues that at least require scrutiny. However, there's an extent to which VAR has become a distraction from what has always been the central issue with refereeing in Scottish football - the propensity of referees to act in favour of Celtic. None of the recent controversies involving VAR would or could have happened without the intervention of human officials. At the root of all of it is the unprovable but nonetheless real bias displayed time and again to assist Celtic. It's the sort of corruption that most reasonable people tend not to want to believe is real, preferring instead the more palatable option of incompetence to explain the absurd refereeing decisions we see so often. But after a lifetime watching the routine bias exhibited by match officials and those who run our game, I'm convinced the opaque oversight of the sport has bred a conscious willingness to interfere in the outcomes of games involving Rangers and Celtic. I will never forget the lead up to our UEFA Cup final in Manchester where the SPL contrived to deny us a league title and severely affected our chances in the UEFA cup final. That disgraceful episode may stand out but it was only one of many examples of what we know in our hearts is only too real.

  5. I get that Gonzo but it's too easy to look at our "performance" in relation to the final outcome in these games. We've had 3 match altering decisions go against us in 3 OF games (Alfies goal, Roofes goal and a potential penalty). These would all have had a significant impact on the outcomes of these games IMO. Goals change games and all that.

  6. That's the sort of thing I'd expect to hear from that lot. If we play well enough, we win matches, regardless of what the referees do.

  7. Not surprising that the BBC quote said that Sima was in an offside position, yet ignored (probably like the SFA) that this position was no longer important under current rules when the handball was committed. As with the Kilmarnock game when the latter received no penalty for a blatant foul, Maeda's foul on Cantwell, wrong offside calls for Roofe, the penalty given against Souttar, lack of red cards, etc - there clearly are problems with the use of VAR in certain games, the quality of judgement, and the bias towards a certain team.* Not that this comes as a surprise. Obviously, the clan of Scottish officials is a small one and as people don't change much, it has been and is an in-house problem. No wonder that their association (clan chiefs and mouthpieces) "protects" their own. * As that team has had a bad time of late, like in seasons before, they get help from the officials - be it the men in black with whistle or monitor, or some shadowy figures called "compliance officer", who (wonder of wonders) has not been heard off after all the damage they did to our campaigns a few seasons back. (Maybe one should not give them any ideas ... ). The amount of recent help by the men in black springs you in the face and to deny that means that the "referee association" is complicit in this.

  9. So every time they have done it it’s fine, every time they made comment about it at an agm it’s fine. When they let a wee fat oddball make a documentary about at thier stadium featuring ex players and a club ambassador it was fine?

  11. Looking back on the OF game at the penalty handball there’s no doubt a VAR review should’ve been done(as opposed to a check) but whether offside would have ruled out the penalty is dubious because if the latest IFAB offside rules were applied (assuming the official were aware of them) Sima might not have been given offside as he never touched the ball or prevented the opponent from playing it. A bigger issue for me was why match referee Walsh didn’t give a second yellow card to yahoos RB Alistair Johnston.

  19. So, don't complain when the SFA and its referees are pissing in your porridge. Smile and lap it up in case someone might think you're a Celtic fan.

  21. We need to be shopping in a different store. If we try to do deals in the EPL then it's inevitable we will sign over-priced players.

  22. I do agree with your sentiment, but usually when we play poorly yet still win folk would say that is the sign of a title winning side. The terrible reffereeing we witnessed at the last old firm game may have robbed us of one of those ugly wins that can help decide a league.

  23. No, we should fight them on and off the pitch. We didn't deserve anything in either of this season's derby matches because we played crap both times. I don't like making excuses for that.

  24. What you seem to be saying is we should accept having to win matches despite referees. I don't think that's something we should so easily tolerate simply by raising comparison with another club.

  25. I can see a situation arising that if there is any chance of cup or league success in Scotland then referees are going to make sure it doesn’t happen .

  28. Some weekend gossip ... Rangers will not face a battle with Celtic for the signature of Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna, with the Scotland international not on Celtic's list of targets. (Record) Meanwhile, Forest forward Emmanuel Dennis is reportedly keen on joining Rangers and is a more likely option for the Ibrox club than Brighton's Steven Alzate. (Record) (Given that Dennis is a striker (all-round attacker) and Alzate a DM (box-to-box type), they are not an "option for each other". But homework and the Daily Record are no option for one another either ... ) Twente Enschede left-back Gijs Smal, out of contract at the end of the season, is linked with Rangers. (Sun) Ridvan Yilmaz may be used as part of a swap deal in Rangers' proposed signing of Hellas Verona left-back Josh Doig. (Record) Rangers full-back Ridvan Yilmaz is on the verge of a switch to Serie A side Verona, but Rangers' hopes of Josh Doig moving the other way as his replacement are fading (Scottish Sun). And Rangers have been linked with a move for Dutch left-back Gijs Smal, whose contract with Eredivisie club Twente expires this summer (Daily Star - print edition). ... Scott McKenna and Gijs Smal will be added to the OP soon. The latter seems to be a likelier target than all other LBs mentioned so far, but who knows. Before this transfer window, I did not really envisage that "left back" would become such a talking point, nor that Ridvan would be willing to go to rock-bottom Verona after being given a constant run in the team. Who knows what is/was going on behind the scenes. IF he goes, I would hope we won't spend large parts of his money on a LB replacement. After all, albeit not perfect, we have Barisic, Balogun, Devine and even Sterling who can step in there if needed. 29. We have a Rangers forum for Rangers stuff - your parking post is fine there. We have a General Football forum for world football stuff - your VAR post is covering wider VAR issues in football. We have the Bluenose Lounge for non-football related stuff, politics etc. We have Forum Support for ... forum support issues.

  32. As always the SFA splutters and protests ..... but stops short of offering a useful explanation of the actions of its officials or opening the door to transparent scrutiny of its VAR systems. It's yet another example of "trust us and don't dare question us". But through the fog of indignation and bluster it's just possible to detect an organisation that has been severely rattled ..... not by events at Parkhead but by being caught covering up its dubious operations. For so long as the SFA denies scrutiny of its match officials, there can never be a basis of trust in them. Only when they allow a modicum of transparency will the SFA have any right to express indignation. I look forward to welcoming Willie Collum back to Ibrox.

  33. First Half-Beale--sold a bill of goods by a true shyster. As with all shysters when the time came to produce, he failed miserably. Disappointed at the club in the amount of control they provided to Beale during the transfer window. A classic conman (Beale) enabled by a willing dupe (RFC). He was so bad it almost seems like he was a saboteur. Second Half-Clement--Too early to call him the best thing since Walter but he is edging closer. His presence, his intensity. His record has been very good. Especially considering the injury issues and management of Beale's horrid signings. This guy has it though. That Walter vibe. This guy is a general. He looks THROUGH you. I hope he continues on successfully.
