  1. I don't think that a fresh start, clean slates etc. are much to be worried about. A Day Zero does mean that he is not prejudging players, but, critically, that he, and his coaching/training/ fitness staff will be judging them, over the next few weeks/months, and the responsibility to work, to fit in, to impress -to display aptitude, application, and attitude, and to pass muster- lies with the players. The last thing that a new man should do is walk into a changing room of men he does not know, has only seen on TV, and where is he is unsure of the relationships and dynamics, and wield a filleting knife. He has to get to know these men, and what they can offer; they have to get to know him, and what he requires. Finance, and the window system, dictates that personnel change can not be implemented, immediately. What can change is formation, tactics, setup, etc, and thus, in some cases, positions on the pitch. This, all, means that he has leeway, not unlimited, granted, to assess the players individually, and collectively, pinpoint weaknesses, and identify strengths. I am pretty convinced that he and his coaches will spot the duds, the deadbeats, and the dildos, pretty quickly: if we can identify them, a professional coaching team, whose jobs, and reputations, depend on success, surely can. What does worry me is this talk of 'four pillars'; we all know that there are Seven Pillars of Wisdom..... .

  2. Case in point being Emery at Villa - Gerrard was derided for saying Chelsea should wipe the floor with them when he was manager..now look where both clubs are! With the bulk of the same squad as Gerrard he's taken them from looking at relegation to being a candidate for the UCL and rightly so when looking at their form under Emery. It's what gives me hope with Clement - although players like Tav, Goldson, Lundstram and Barisic should be starting to be phased out in the summer. I think most would agree.

  3. Copied this from elsewhere. Worthwhile cause imo. Just doing a plug for the Scottish Cot Death Trust which is a charity very close to my heart having lost my son at 25 weeks. He would be 6 in 2 weeks time. The charity is very small and being able to secure a bucket collection at the game for the second time in those 6 long years is massive for the charity. They support bereaved family's, as well as promoting safe sleep and educate the police on how to handle pretty harrowing circumstances. Last time at Ibrox was our biggest ever bucket collection and biggest total so hoping to better it this time. There will be volunteers all over the footprint of the ground but unfortunately not in the ground as it was before covid. The Rangers chairty foundation has been a pleasure to deal with. So shamelessly if your going for a beer before the game or anything else would love anyone and everyone to have change in their pocket to help a great charity. Having done loads of these now and other fundraising I know it's not a lie when people say they don't have change as everything is not contacless so just hoping in advance this might meet a large number of people who would like to rattle the bucket and have cash in their pockets. Many thanks.

  4. The situation is pretty clear to all. We have a misfiring team, made several poor signings and, a leaking defence that has not been changed in four seasons. The summer signings have probably put the club back a couple of years. They are not nearly as good as those that left and all were given three-four year contracts. We have not qualified for the Champions League group stages. Finance must be a concern. If Butland has value and some club is wiling to part with some serious cash, we do not have a choice. The new Gaffer will want some cash to partially reshape the team and the club has two ways of raising the necessary. Qualify out of the Europa groups to ensure European football and a cash flow in the new year or/and sell an asset. The Rangers support is going to have to endure harsh reality, again. Patience will have to be a virtue, Clement is our 12th manager in twelve years(six permanent, six temporary). There is a lot more artillery heading our way.

  5. I'm willing to give everyone a fresh start with Clement. It's evident that Beale (and GVB for that matter) had limitations and was working from game to game on what they wanted on the pitch. Let's see what this group of players can do with a manager who has a clear vision and will not be scared to make brave decisions.

  6. I will judge what happens on the park with my own eyes. You've made your mind up before a ball is even kicked. Incredible.

  7. I believe there are players we could do with moving on, some who should get more time, and some we need to keep, but all of them will get a chance, mainly as its October and there's nothing that can be done for a few months. But, history is littered with managers that got a tune out of previously unheralded or underperforming players. #OptimistLoyal

  8. I think he is effectively being black-balled mate due to his Rangers connections - had interviews at a few and a better managerial career than some (despite it only being the year he was at Kelty) but that Rangers connection is tough for him to overcome. Havent spoken to him for a bit but the passion he has for the Club, the love, respect and standards that Walter taught him, are plain to see - he loves the club - and we all know what his own standards were - so he wouldnt accept half-arsed efforts from the players. Would obviously, because I am bias, be my choice.

  9. Clean slate fresh start quite simply means he will judge players by how they respond to his instructions and by how they carry them out on the park.

  12. Damn hard charger. What are his other options? Play himself? By that metric literally every player on the roster has 'let us down'...or have not been 'good enough'. You gotta play the hand you are dealt.

  13. Local knowledge on the coaching team is most important. I propose Neil McCann, knows the game and articulates well. Further, he knows and understands the media, particularly the cesspit that is the Scottish press and broadcast media. It is a minefield and Clement et al will need someone that knows the safe route through. Another suggestion would be Kevin Thomson, any other proposals from Gersnet?

  14. Imagine a new manager arriving at a club and stating that half the players aren't good enough and he plans a mass clear-out. Team morale would suffer somewhat, you'd think. Clement has over ten weeks of football to play before he can shift players or bring anyone in.

  15. Stein took a team of serial losers, patronised by supporters of other teams, to …. well, no need to remind ourselves. A familiar scenario? Clement may not be the man to make it happen, but it does happen.

  17. Tough crowd. Thankfully, I think most of us are prepared to give him a bit more leeway, particularly in light of the current squad and atmosphere around the place. An improvement in performances and attitude are what I'm looking for in the first few weeks.

  19. I might just be prattling here but there's form for players wearing masks and having stellar/breakthrough seasons. Kane springs to mind for Spurs a few years ago, Osimhen for Napoli more recently. Dare I say Callum McGregor for Celtic? I'm clinging onto this false hope/narrative!

  21. It’s not immediately obvious who he could turn to with knowledge of the club. Good options seem few and far between.

  22. Again, reverting back to Clement's interview, the "local / Rangers" knowledge may already be at the club and said the "interim" staff, like the players will be given an opportunity to prove they are worthy of hanging around longer term. He also mentioned discussing the club with Thomas Buffel whom he has previously managed and knows from the international set-up. Also said that Buffel would be over "taking in a game" in the near future. Neil McCann has been a failure in every footballing role he has had since retiring from football and would be better served remaining a pundit. Kevin Thompson has somehow fallen off the managerial radar recently and if there is a possibility of him joining Clement's staff, I'm sure Craig will keep us posted.

  24. His auld man wasn’t very nice about us I can recall. Not sure he’d leave Brighton when things are going so well to come to a footballing backwater. A big club yes but we don’t have the resources to make the most of his recruiting capabilities.
