I actually think the support will give a manager, any manager, time if we can see progress. Beale's problem wasn't that we lost to Celtic and PSV, it was the manner of those defeats. The side had regressed, there was no discernible style of play, we were passive when we should have been aggressive, we were naive when we should have been knowledgable. Gerrard got time because we could see progress, despite setbacks. His style of play was attractive, the gap between us and them was closing, the players we had were better and continued to improve. There's more realism in our support than we get credit for. We want to win, we want to win the league, but we'll accept defeat if we beleive the side has given everything and is on the right path. In my opinion.12 points

If we are even considering or talking to Lampard then that's a sign of real incompetence from the powers that be.8 points

Potentially, a major clash of egos, never mind bringing the players into it. Could sell that to Amazon, mind. There is a worrying thing about Lampard, beyond his execrable record, and everything else that has been said, and it is that some in the Club may feel that he would give the Club a high profile, in UK, and beyond, much as SG did. I think that there would much less interest in, and focus on, Lampard, now, than there was on SG, then, in his first post in management. Lampard is more yesterday's news.5 points

I can't believe Lampard is considered a serious option. He is really bad.5 points

Non-starters: Davis - No experience and therefore too big a risk. Gallardo and Potter - won't come. We'd as well adding Jose to the list as rumour has it that he's about to be sacked by Roma. Lampard & Parker - their managerial resumes do not fill me with confidence. McInnes - no ambition and turned us down before. Would not be accepted by the support. Warnock - he's 75 and has retired. That leaves 5: Knutsen was my choice last time. However he's never managed outside of Norway so is a risk and wants a % of player sales. We can't have a manager who is willing to weaken the team for financial gain. Hasenhuttl - has never had a 50% win percentage at any club. Seems to work best with a DoF. Got Southampton relegated. A bit of a risk. Jansen - there were concerns raised by SBG and others about him in the "Rangers part company with Beale" thread. A guy I don't know too much about but appears to be a risk. Muscat - seems to be a bit like following the Ange model and hoping it works for us. It's difficult to assess a manager of someone who has managed in Oz and Japan. Concerns have been raised by his poor record in Belgium. Seems a risk. Clement - did well in Belgium, winning the league 3 years in a row and did OK in France, although his team did fall away a bit last season. He'd be my choice from this list. But I wanted Le Guen so what do I know 🤷♂️5 points

I hope the shortlist isn't too short because I think he would be an absolute car crash at Ibrox. If he is given a contract then we are in bigger trouble than we feared.4 points

Yes, but Lamppost has management experience, he's proved he's dung.4 points

I don't understand the clamour for Neil McCann. A great player for us, a very good pundit, tends to back Rangers in his punditry but gived criticism when its justified, but failed in all coaching / manager roles he's had.4 points

I think the only person that made Warburtons job more difficult was Warburton. He came in and refreshed the playing squad with some great young players. Tav and Waghorn being the standouts when first appointed. His pursuit and signing of O'Halloran was baffling the following winter. The signings of Crooks and Windass were exciting to the support on pre-contracts. Then in his second season and our return to the top flight he had completely 180 his signing policy and started signing guys like Senderos, Kranjkar and Barton. His lengthy pursuit and big money signing Joe Garner turning out to be a client of a player agency his daughter had involvement with made it seem rather murky. I remember his quote when he seen the supporter display at the first home game back against Hamilton 'Going for 55' - he said his heart sank the moment he saw it. I think that sums up the mentality of the man. We were never going to win the league that year, everyone knew it but it was a signal of intent to build something that we could challenge with in subsequent years. A challenge Warburton himself didn't think he was up to.4 points

This is my thoughts, the fact that its even mentioned, let alone dicussed, is a disgrace and hopefully, purely from media but it sounds more advanced than pure rumour4 points

This is a trap. If you vote for someone that never played for Rangers then you will get banned.4 points

Can we have an "I have no idea" option because I don't. That's the plain truth. I know who I don't want I think 🫣3 points
-
Aye I agree, that's why I said I want experience and success in charge. It was more a point about what he's done for us and wanting him to do it rather than actually WANTING him to do it. If you catch my drift.3 points

The one thing said by former Chair of Dundee United, Eddie Thompson I agreed with was, "you can change your wife, house or, car; but you cannot change your football team". Now, the above line does not stand up to the merest of scrutiny on the departed Eddie. He was born and bred in Clydebank and did not swap the banks of the Clyde for the Tay until after his twenty-first birthday. Eddie supported some team before he got to Dundee. However, the line holds true for the vast majority of us Those stating they are giving up their season tickets, going to watch the Juniors or, spending their Saturday afternoons indulging in campanology are being disingenuous. When Rangers are playing, that very fact trumps every other option. You do NOT have a choice, it is your duty. If the odious Tom Boyd is appointed our new Manager, I will continue to attend despite his appointment.3 points

And there is part of me that thinks this may be part of the plan. Maybe I'm giving the board too much credit but whos to say the Lampard rumour is being entertained so that the fans accept somebody like Muscat because "at least its not Lampard"3 points

Just appoint a director of football stick with Davis and whoever’s going to be working beside him they will know what’s required to steady the ship and get us back on an even keel the DOF will be tasked to find a good manager and identify good professionals and also to punt anyone who’s surplus to requirements3 points

Bringing in Lampard is the sort of ridiculous marketing strategy just to raise profile and be seen to have brought in another big name to the club, without the slightest thought of whether it might work or not, or if said high profile name is actually a talented coach or not. Sounds like the sort of scheme only a commercial manager promoted beyond his talent to CEO would think of. Thank goodness we dont have such a man in charge of us!3 points

If true, Rangers have either been unprepared for the event or have been turned down by better options.3 points

The theory with Lampard can only be that Gerrard was successful (relatively, I know) because he was a football legend, a better player than anybody on the Club's books, was possessed of a strong personality, was a leader of men, having captained a major Club, and England, did not suffer fools gladly, and the players, thus, would give him the utmost respect, listen to him, heed his instructions, and endeavour to carry them out to the best of their abilties, and that Lampard, having a similar status, can replicate this. Ah ha'e mah doobts.3 points

I definitely don't want Kenny Miller anywhere near the club, particularly in relation to dealings with the press.3 points

My issue is whether he can implement that style on his own, from scratch. His success has come following directly from Ange.3 points

I mean, of those three I’d probably say Muscat because there’s at least a chance he has something. The other two should be nowhere near our list.3 points

I said at the time (check back through the forums) that history would be kind to Big Eck. He consistently won trophies whilst having to sell his best players. He also managed to get us to the later stages of the CL where we were unlucky to be knocked out by Villarreal. When it all starting unravelling for Big Eck, there were demonstrations outside Ibrox calling for his head and finally he was cut loose. However, at the time, a very few souls understood that Big Eck wasn't the problem, but the custodian and bravely stood and called for boardroom change (and we all know how that ended up). Not saying that we are at that stage, but the board really need to get this decision right or the fans ire may just turn onto them. Appointing the likes of Lampard, McInnes or Kettlewell will hasten this. Board have a huge decision to make and if you believe in a God, any God, I'd suggest you pray to them to guide the board in the right direction, otherwise things are going to get worse for us and the board.3 points

Just checked ... Mr. Jensen prefers a defensive 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 in a league where teams usually want to play football. In a league where 80 % of the teams play "backs to walls brick wall" - stuff with the odd foray and hope of a corner or free-kick, things work differently. Warburton, Murty, Caixinha, Nicholl, Gerrard, McCallum, van Bronkhorst, and Beale didn't change that 4-3-3 (or however you want to term that reduced-attackers-line-up) and failed. We sure do not need more trial and error people.2 points

Lads, I know it's a shitshow atm and Davo shouldn't be in charge - but I just can't help thinking/feeling like he could do the job? Born out of him being the only player post Murty who hasn't let the club down, that's before you include his first spell at the club. I can't be the only one who has a smidgeon of 'god I wish he could do it!'. Too early most would say and I agree, but still. Great player, great man..would love him to succeed but I want experience and success in charge atm. Maybe in the future eh?2 points

So if the "leaks" to the press are to believed, Lampard and Muscat have had / are having a Zoom interview and there are "2 other" candidates in the mix. Hard at this point not to be completely underwhelmed by the quality of the candidates that have been mentioned and we're no further forward on whether we'll be employing a DoF and / or getting footballing people involved in the hiring process / running of the football part of the club. It's OK to say that things are / will be better as Beale has been removed but personally believe the club / board still has a long way to go until they can claim that the footballing part of the club is being run properly.2 points

Well said John. Given the size of our support and the nature of social media, some of the maddest folk get too much attention. We're not going to scream for a manager's head after every defeat, like some would make out.2 points

Billy Davies has thrown his hat into the ring. Wonder if the bold Tommy Sheridan would be his assistant..2 points

Muscat's time in Belgium was undoubtedly a failure by any measurement. The only mitigation you can make is Sint Truiden are a funny club. At one time a feeder for Charlton Athletic they're now the play thing of a Japanese entertainment company who have installed Japanese corporate management and signed a plethora of Japanese players. While most Belgians speak good English I doubt Muscat speaks much French or Flemish or went in with much knowledge of the Belgian second tier. It strikes me he got the job because of his exposure in Asia while managing in Oz. Interestingly despite this blip he left Belgium for a pretty impressive spell in Japan. In truth I don't know who I want, but I know who I don't want. Some of the names on that list would drive me to watching Junior football of a weekend.2 points

I remember Mark Warburton mentioning the unrealistic expectation levels that were trumpeted prior to our first season back in the top flight. It made his job a lot more difficult. There are reasons why this is becoming like a groundhog moment. Hoping for first place when we are very much behind our main rivals in finance and relative stability is fine, but expecting it is unreasonable. We need to get real, recognise where we are and give some leeway for rebuilding the club and team to the point of being truly competitive. The club need to get real and communicate reality rather than the usual sound bites. Any manager coming in has an extremely difficult job. In the past we would throw money at it. That option is becoming ever more difficult. This should have been done years ago. The longer it goes, the deeper the hole gets and the way out becomes dependent on your rivals imploding.2 points

But some are riskier than others. I've highlighted where I felt the risk was at too high a level....but as I said, I don't really know that much and my views are fairly uninformed.2 points

Looking at the CVs of everyone on the list, Clement would appear to be the best candidate.2 points

That's a good point Rousseau. If we go for Lampard, I'm going to watch the Juniors.2 points

Wilder and Lampard? No thanks. Does not inspire me in the slightest. Muscat on the other hand comes across as no nonsense kind of guy who won't take any shit from under performing players as well as the media. He's straight talking and has worked under Postecoglou therefore that for me is a win, win. IMO he has been unfairly labelled as lucky as he inherited Postocoglous teams but during his time in Japan he lost 5/6 starters yet still won the title with team with a small budget whilst playing pressing and attacking football. Muscat has a lot ticks in the of pros column. 1. Has won league titles in 2 countries. 2. He has worked with Postegoglou. 3. Plays high pressing and attacking football. 4. Speaks English. 5. Knows about the rigours of the British game. 6. Is straight talking and passionate. No one else being mentioned has won anything apart from Galardo but even then he won 1 title in 7 years at River Plate. And does he speak English? I get the impression that many fans are resistant to Muscat as they see it as us copying them with big Ange. If it brings succces, who cares?2 points

I'm willing to give Dessers another chance under a new manager tbh. He's been awful but at the same time, so has the whole team. The guys confidence is shot and the targeted booing was disgraceful IMO. I don't know if he'll come good but either way we have 4 million invested in him so we need to hope we get some return in the shape of goals. It's a clean slate for everybody with the new management for me.2 points

There's absolutely no chance Gallardo will come to manage in Scotland.2 points
